Premier Eby delivers action to expand housing supply within first days

To help deliver more good homes for people, the Province is introducing new laws to build the homes people need, make it possible for homes that are vacant to be rented and remove discriminatory age and rental restrictions in stratas that hurt young families. “B.C.’s housing crisis is stressing out and hurting people while it holds back our economy,” said Premier David Eby. “As a first step in my 100-day plan, we are making changes to deliver more homes for British Columbians, faster. We will work with municipalities to set housing targets and make

sure the homes people need get built. For those searching for a home today, there’s good news. We’re making it possible for thousands of condos that are vacant to be rented out as soon as these new laws pass. For those worried about the future, we’re setting out a new way to coordinate the efforts of our cities and the Province to build the homes people need quickly.” The first piece of legislation, the housing supply act, will help speed up housing development and increase supply by giving the Province the power to set housing targets in municipalities with the greatest need and highest projected growth. Targets will be based on information provided by and in consultation with municipalities. The new housing targets will encourage municipalities to address local barriers to construction so that housing can get built faster, including

Host-performer Billy Crawford expressed his gratitude Tuesday after his winning stint in the French edition of “Dancing with the Stars.” In an Instagram post, Crawford shared photos of the finale where he and his dancing partner Fauve Hautot were declared champions of the popular TV competition. “It’s been a few days since we won @dals_tf1 but from the bottom of my heart thank you again @fauvehautot for your patience and your amazing talent. I am forever grateful to have worked with someone as dope as you!” he wrote. Crawford also paid tribute to his fellow celebrity contestants, writing, “I love you guys and thank you for always being there to make things smoother than usual.” The “Bright Lights”

hitmaker thanked the production and creative teams behind the show, mentioning specific people who had an impact on his journey. “To all the pro dancers who helped each other to give an amazing show to the French public, salut and respect to all of you! The judges, thanks for encouraging us that we could always be better no matter what the circumstances are! “To all the public who voted for me and Fauve in the end, thank you!” he said. Crawford concluded his message of gratitude by addressing his wife, actress Coleen Garcia, and mentioning his faith and his home country. “My wife @coleen I love you, my family, never could’ve done it with out you guys sacrificing being here. Lord God, You are absolutely an amazing God! To my country who tries to follow updates

updating zoning bylaws and streamlining local development approval processes. “I had a good job lined up and even I had a hard time finding a home,” said Omama Shoib, a health-care worker who moved from Alberta to Victoria. “We need more housing options across the board urgently. Some people aren’t as lucky as I was and have to turn down job opportunities or schooling because they can’t find suitable housing. I’m relieved the government is doing

more to increase housing so people don’t have to give up on pursuing their goals just because they can’t find a place to live.” The Province will monitor progress and work with municipalities to help address barriers to meeting housing targets and to support the increased community needs associated with targeted growth. The act enables compliance options as a last

Cont. of Premier Eby.... resort, should municipalities with the highest need struggle to create the conditions that are necessary to ensure housing gets built. I f passed, the housing supply act is scheduled to be brought into force in mid-2023. To support implementation, the Province will continue to help local governments speed up local approval processes through the continued implementation of the Development Approvals Process Review and work underway to accelerate provincial approvals.  In addition, the Province is making amendments to the Strata Property Act to end all strata rentalrestriction bylaws and to limit agerestriction bylaws so that the only permitted age restriction is to preserve and promote seniors’ housing through the “55 and over” rule in strata housing. Some buildings have “19+ only” age restrictions that mean couples starting a family have to plan to move out as soon as they become pregnant. Stratas will be able to appear at the Residential Tenancy Branch to evict problem tenants and recover costs of those appearances.  “There’s a lot of things on your mind when you are getting ready to start a family. It can be a very stressful time,” said Sarah Arnold, an expectant mother and condo owner in Victoria. “The last thing you need to think about when you’re preparing to welcome a newborn is finding a new place to live. These unjust age restrictions have hurt a lot of families, and I am pleased to see the Province is taking action to make sure no more couples have to uproot their lives and leave their homes if they decide to start a family.”

In areas where government has data through the Speculation and Vacancy Tax, there are approximately 2,900 empty condos that cannot be rented out because strata rules prevent them from renting out their condo, a n d  g o v e r n m e n t expects there are more empty units in strata buildings in other parts of the province.

This amendment will enable owners to rent out these badly needed homes immediately. Government also expects that some owners in strata buildings would choose to rent out a room in their condo if they were given the opportunity to do so. “Rules that prevent families with children from living in a home or prevent people from renting the unit they own are no longer acceptable in our current housing market,” said Murray Rankin, Attorney General and Minister Responsible for

Housing. “These amendments will open up more rental and homeownership options for people at a time when they’re needed the most.” If approved, the changes to the Strata Property Act would take effect immediately. Bylaws restricting short-term rentals, such as AirBnBs, will continue to be allowed. These actions are new steps to deliver homes in B.C., building on B.C.’s 10-year, $7-billion Homes for B.C. plan.(news. gov.bc.ca)

‘Maalaala Mo Kaya’ ends after 31 years How sad that after 31 years, “Maalaala Mo Kaya” will be bidding its viewers goodbye. “Maalala Mo Kaya” is now part of Filipinos’ lives. When someone’s life story turns tragic or unusual, people readily describe it as “pang MMK” or “pang Maalaala Mo Kaya.” The sad news was announced last night by the drama anthology’s host, Charo Santos-Concio. With the haunting melody of “Maalaala Mo Kaya” playing as background music, Charo paid homage to the writers, directors, staff, and stars who have lent their talents to the program in the past thirty-one years. Most of all, she said thank you to the show’s loyal following because the program

would not have lasted without the viewers. Thirty-one years on the air is an achievement and Charo and the rest of the crew deserve all the praise for the inspirational story that unfolded every Saturday in its whole run. “Maraming salamat po sa lahat ng nakaraan at sa anumang paraan na maaari pa tayong muling magkita,” was Charo’s parting shot. Nearing its December farewell after 31 years on air, “MMK” has made available over 150 full episodes to watch for free on YouTube. The compilation consists so far of 152 episodes uploaded in full in recent years, both recent and classic titles. Aside from the select

Months after Carla Abellena divorced Tom Rodriguez, she is finally speaking up about the issue. In an interview on ‘Updated With Nelson Canlas,’ the Kapuso actress said that she simply wasn’t ready to talk about what happened until now. However, she said she was highly aware that the public knew that there was a problem. “Ang daming lumalapit para magtanong kung pwede ma-interview or magbigay ng statement. Most especially a few months back, so of course I completely understand kung bakit you know, gusto lang nila basically ng answer,” she said.

“So honestly, at that time, talagang I wasn’t ready. I wasn’t in the right mind space or state in my life na magsasalita ako na I open up and reveal very sensitive or important information, ‘yung personal talaga,” she added. Carla said that there was “pressure” to give the public answers, because people think she owes them an explanation. Still, she said that she didn’t want to say anything at the height of the issue when she herself was struggling with processing the events and her own emotions. “Ang hirap din naman ‘yung ganu’n na hindi mo binigyan ‘yung sarili mo ng time and, basically, kung ano man nangyayari hindi mo pa

napoproseso. So mahirap din and we have to be, of course, careful din naman with what we say and then when we say it, mga ganu’n bagay.” She reminded listeners that although she’s a celebrity, she’s human, too. “Gustuhin mo man magsalita na ‘di ba bugso ng damdamin mo or whatever, hindi naman din basta-basta ganun. Plus, ‘yun nga, tao din kami na may emotions, may mga pinagdadaanan, may mga problema din and struggles in life. So, you know, because na rin nga of social media, unfortunately nawawala nga ‘yung parang fine line between public and ‘yung private na lives namin. So ‘yun mahirap din ‘yun,” she said.

Maricar Reyes: ‘Kailangan niya harapin ang consequences ng mali niya’

9

Maricar Reyes didn’t mention any names but she made clear her decision to forgive those who have wronged her doesn’t mean she has also decided to simply forget what they have done. She related in a social media post, “Forgiveness is not forgetting. Yung babalik kayo sa dati as if nothing happened. Not true. Tingin mo nakalimutan ko na lahat ng masama na nangyari sa akin? Hindi ah…” She maintained, however, “The difference is, hindi na ganu’n kabigat pag naaalala ko sila. It’s because I remember that I learned to adjust.” This, Maricar, shared, is among things she learned about forgiving following the “crisis” that engulfed her several years ago, something that she has since shared in a book. According to the actress, she is sharing what she learned about the process in an effort to inspire others. “Forgiveness is the best beauty product in the world,” she said. “Pero bakit ang hirap magpatawad? I think it’s because

we have some misconceptions about forgiveness.” Apart from forgiveness being separate from forgetting, she added, “Forgiveness does not mean na wala nang consequence.” She explained, “Kung minali ka ng isang tao, kailangan niya harapin ang consequences ng mali niya kahit pinatawad mo na siya.” “Alam mo, years before my crisis, I told a lot of little lies and I never got caught. Yun nangyari sa akin, I think it’s partially because of all these lies. Nagpatong patong buong buhay ko tapos sumabog na lang siya sa mukha ko. It was my consequence for lying to myself and to others.” Maricar also reminded followers: “Forgiveness does not mean I am better than the other person. Yung thought na, ‘Never ko gagawin yung ginawa niya sa akin.’ ‘I am not as bad as that person, bakit ko siya patatawarin?’ Ito yung pinakamahirap. Kasi feeling ko mas mabait ako dun sa kagalit

ko. But when I really took time to look at my own heart, I realize I wasn’t as clean as I thought I was. Hindi ako ganun kalinis. At minsan nakakalimutan ko yun pag may nagkakamali sa akin.” She went on. “Forgiveness is not a one time, big time thing. Proseso siya. The deeper the hurt, the longer the process. So please be patient with yourself, don’t stop trying. Pag naramdaman mo na yung bitterness at yung pait sa puso Maricar with her book mo, forgive ulit. Remember ulit. and with husband Richard Nagkakamali ka din. Hihingi ka below. rin ng kapatawaran minsan. “Remember ulit na haharapin niya ulit yung consequences ng pagkakamali niya. If not today, balang araw. And don’t forget, adjust your relationship. Para hindi ka na paulit ulit na nasasaktan. Learn.” She ended, “Keep doing this until it becomes a habit. Over time it will get easier. Siyempre gusto ko lahat tayo maganda. At hindi nakaka-beauty ang pagiging bitter.” (N. Ramos, mb.com)

Diamond star Maricel Soriano gained buzz on social media for her amazing transformation as a Filipino drag queen. Maricel posted an Instagram photo of herself as “Kinang Inay”, her drag queen name, for her latest vlog last Saturday, November 20. “MARICEL SORIANO IS OUT. KINANG INAY IS IN!” she wrote in the caption. In her post, Maricel said that her hair was done by wig stylist Emerson Pascua (@wigsbymargaux) and her makeup by drag q u e e n  S h e w a r m a  ( @ shewarmaa). Shewarma is a contestant in the new drag reality series “Drag Den Philippines.” Maricel also posted more unrecognizable photos of herself as a drag queen in a separate post. A self-confessed fan of “Drag Race Philippines” and now a follower of the upcoming “Drag Den,” Soriano tried living a day as a drag queen. To assist in her transformation,

she tapped “Drag Race” contestant Xilhouette, who happens to be a close friend of Soriano, as her collaborator. “MGA ACCLA, THIS IZZ IT! Pa Drag Race Den VLOG IS OUT,” her caption reads. “I am Kinang Inay. I’m giving you Ariana and Gaga’s love child realness,” she quipped, referring to the US pop stars and “Rain On Me” hitmakers. Soriano will soon trade in her drag-queen look for her signature dramatic portrayals, as she prepares to make her teleserye comeback via ABSCBN’s “Linlang,” co-starring Kim Chiu, Paulo Avelino, and JM de Guzman. The title of her vlog “Pa Drag Race Den” also seemed to be a wordplay of the recently concluded “Drag Race Philippines” Season 1 and the coming “Drag Den Philippines.” “DRPH” is the Philippines’ edition of the American drag franchise “RuPaul’s Drag Race.” Its first season just concluded

last October 12. “Drag Den Philippines” or “Drag Den with Manila Luzon”, meanwhile, is a new

“Mahal kita Beksman’ will make you laugh

If you want to forget your troubles, don’t miss the rollicking romp that is “Mahal Kita, Beksman.” It’s a true laugh-out-loud comedy that really works in tickling our funnybones. The viewers at the premiere night last Thursday at SM Megamall were in stitches and after all the feel-bad movies we’ve seen in Vivamax lately, this one is a feel-good movie that leaves you feeling refreshed and not depressed. The story is about a gay make-up artist and fashion designer, Dali

(Christian Bables), the son of a dressmaker, Gemma (Katya Santos), who has accepted the fact that Dali’s dad is really gay, Jaime (Keempee de Leon), and even has a current boyfriend, Boyet (Mico Aytona), who’s also openly gay. Dali’s co-workers in their beauty shop are also flamboyantly gay. Trouble arises when Dali meets Angel (Iana Bernardez), a morena beauty and is immediately smitten with her. It’s a life changing moment for him when he realizes he’s not really gay. When he tells this to his parents and their co-workers, they are all shocked and in denial. The ways that Dali’s issues are all resolved in the most entertaining manner is part of the movie’s contagious charm. This is Director Perci Intalan’s best work to date and it’s obvious the material is near his heart.  He says in the press con that he once shocked all his gay friends when he courted a girl who became his girlfriend. His movie is actually a satirical take on all those movies about the coming out of a gay person

who shocks all his loved ones. Here, the lead character announces he is straight and all the gay people around him are appalled. Direk Perci gets a

uniformly splendid performance from his very big cast. They’re all good, but the real stand outs here are, of course, the father and the son, who both figure in many absolutely funny scenes. (M. Bautista, Malaya)

MANILA — Belle Mariano and Donny Pangilinan were seen Tuesday on a massive digital billboard along EDSA — a gift from fans on the eve of the release of “An Inconvenient Love,” the screen couple’s second film together. The video of Mariano and Pangilinan in a scene from the Star Cinema film appears on the facade of the Galleria Corporate Center in Ortigas. It also features the poster of “An Inconvenient Love” and indicates the November 23 release date. The LED surprise for DonBelle was organized by a fan group of the actress, Belle Lovers Official, which earlier this year celebrated its 10th anniversary similarly with billboards dedicated to Mariano along C-5 and EDSA. The group’s latest effort for “An Inconvenient Love” also coincided with the film’s premiere night, ahead of its nationwide rollout on

Wednesday. Aside from the 100 cinemas announced early this week, Star Cinema detailed Tuesday 60 more theaters across the country where “An Inconvenient Love” will have regular screenings. “An Inconvenient Love” will release exclusively in cinemas, as it ushers in Star Cinema’s return to physical venues after more than two years. Outside the Philippines, the Petersen Vargas film will also be shown in 20 countries from November to December, with regular screenings scheduled in Guam, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Nigeria, and Cambodia, where it will be dubbed in Khmer. Written by Enrico Santos and Daisy Cayanan, “An Inconvenient Love” follows the love story of Ayef, a convenience store worker who aspires to be a professional animator in Singapore, and Manny, a company heir who runs his own plant shop and who secretly works as a social activist.

An old photo of journalist Karen Davila and actress Lyca Gairanod recreating their famous photo-turned-meme went viral anew a day after their birthday this year. Pulmonary medicine fellow Jai Cabajar juxtaposed images of the two personalities, which showed the broadcaster looking at “The Voice Kids Philippines” first winner with a shocked expression. “Nire-create talaga nila,” he tweeted on Tuesday. His post has earned over 5,500 likes so far. The pose initially appeared in Karen’s video feature of Lyca in August 2021, where the former first learned that she shares the same birthdate as the actress. “Hindi ko alam ‘yun. Magka-birthday kami, Scorpio! That means magka-ugali tayo. We’re meant to meet! How many people ang makakatsamba mo, ini-interview ka, ka-birthday mo!” the broadcaster exclaimed

before. Karen’s reaction surprised Lyca who briefly scrunched her eyebrows and took a step back. The moment has since been turned into a meme by social media users. A day before their birthday on Nov. 21, 2021, Karen shared a photo of her with Lyca where they mimicked the moment in the former’s video. “OMG!! It’s our BIRTHDAY! (party popper emoji) It’s happening! Super thank you guys for making our birthday a viral consciousness lol (laughing-with-tears emoji) Sa lahat ng November 21 — we celebrate with you!” the broadcaster said on Instagram before. The picture was shared anew by Jai on Nov. 22, 2022, a day after the personalities’ birthday and a year after the viral moment became a meme. His post amused Twitter users who shared their own reactions

Laurente: Fast and furious

It took former amateur standout Criztian Pitt Laurente only 45 seconds to score his seventh knockout win in 11 fights Sunday night at the packed Mandaluyong City College gymnasium. Pitted against veteran JR Magboo during the first show of Blow-by-Blow, the southpaw Laurente got the job done after landing a lightning-fast lead left straight-right hook combo. Magboo, who had previously fought in the United Arab Emirates, Thailand, China and Malaysia, crashed to the floor and didn’t even attempt to get up. Referee Danrex Tapdasan reached the count of ten with the beleaguered Magboo, 32,

Decision to Leave (PG) ***

Mystery Woman! South Korea for years have pumped out enticing movies especially in the criminal genre. See sparks fly in Decision to Leave. Currently on screen at the VanCity Theatre in Downtown Vancouver this Mongrel Media release will

certainly appeal to closet crime buffs.        English subtitles aside, Decision to Leave delves deep into a murder investigation led by a duo of top police inspectors. Problems galore develop when the lead investigator falls head over heels for a female suspect. Perhaps this theme may remind some of Hollywood’s blistering Basic Instict. While that “controversial” film saw Michael Douglas and Sharon Stone heat up the screen Decision to Leave is a lot more subtle, less sexual with sensuality and psychology playing prime ingredients in this smorgasbord of deep hidden desire and deceit. It is well made though feels a touch long.          Smart and effective this Colombo style whodunnit has great atmosphere and very good acting with some surprises along the way during this hunt for the truth.        For more reviews please visit my website moviereviewssite. com
