Betty and Wayne had three daughters: Terry (Mike) Miller of Phoenix, AZ, Ann Jacobson and friend Dennis Gotzman of Burnsville, MN, and Julie (James) Korb of Richland Center, WI. She is further survived by four grandchildren: Livia (Ned) Hummel of Indianapolis, IN, David (Stephanie) Miller of Tucson, AZ, Anna Korb of Portage, WI, and Addie (Will) Peckham of Dickeyville, WI; six great-grandchildren: Agnus and John Hummel, Ethan and Shane Miller, and Olivia and Edmund Peckham; two sistersin-law, Arlene (Dwight) Fruit and Nona Peck; many nieces and nephews; and special friend, Leroy Kinsey, who took her fishing on the Mississippi River, to many doctor appointments, shopping at Amish county markets, and scenic county rides. A special thanks to the whole Kinsey family, who took her in as one of their own. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wayne; son-in-law, Peter Jacobson; brothers: Charles, Keith, and Robert; sisters, Vivian and Joyce; and sister-in-law, Kathleen. In lieu of flowers, Betty’s family would prefer memorials to go to Wisconsin Easterseals Camps, 8001 Excelsior Drive; Ste 200, Madison, WI 53717 or a charity of your choice. A Memorial Service was held on Monday, January 16, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home in Viroqua. A visitation was held from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Betty will be laid to rest at a later date. Online condolences may be expressed at www.vossfh.com.

Benjamin (Ben) Minter, age 87, lifelong farmer of the township of Pulaski, WI passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, January 10 at home. He was born on June 23, 1935, in Dodgeville WI to Bernard and Anna (Cerny) Minter. After Ben’s father passed away when Ben was just a teen, he had to take on the responsibility of helping his mother run the farm. He took on the major role at a young age of making the hog, chicken, and dairy farm successful. In 1956, Ben met Mary Otter at a dance, and they were married on September 14, 1957. They were parents to 9 children. In 1963, they purchased their first farm and were able to finally pursue their dream of a family farming operation. They continued to farm for several years until finally selling the farm to their son, Richard in 1997, and retiring. Ben, Mary, and family members along with several Amish builders constructed their dream log house just down the road in 2000 and they continued to reside there. Ben had many passions in life. Those included his large family first of all. Despite retiring from active farming, he continued to love getting out on his tractor or side by side to get into the fields and countryside that he so much loved. He prided himself for many years on a wellkept acreage - he loved to mow! He also loved to attend farm auctions, where he would discuss various farming methods with other farmers from other areas of the state, comparing ideas. He was a 4-H project leader for years. He was an avid woodworker; in fact, he donated many of his projects to area fundraisers to raise money for charity. He loved getting into the vehicle with Mary or a couple of his children to travel to an Amish auction or just drive to visit friends. He and Mary always liked their regular weekly card games, either played at their house or a neighbor or friends. Ben could play a mean game of euchre! His love for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren was unsurpassed. He treasured each one. Ben offered many of his grandchildren their first driving lessons behind the wheel out in the middle of the field - always memorable. Whisker rubs for the little ones were always a treasured memory! Ben is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Mary (Otter) Minter and 9 children, Mike (Ellen) Minter, Susan (Pat) Paulick, Pat (Virginia) Minter, Richard Minter, Mark (Donna)Minter, Sandy (Ken) Brandt, Mary Jo Minter, Ben Minter, Jill (Gordon) Winter, 21 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by 3 sisters, Patricia (John) Grzenia, Mary Grindeman, and Marilyn (Jerry) Swinehart, and 1 sister-in-law, Marcia Meudt, and two brothers-in law, August (Donna) Otter and Tom Otter, as well as many special nieces and nephews. Ben was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Anna, a stepfather, Virgil Imhoff, his mother and father-in-law, Louis and Loretta Otter, as well as many special other loved ones. Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Avoca, with burial following in the church cemetery. Visitation was held at the Avoca Village Hall 401 East Wisconsin Ave, Avoca, WI 53506, on Friday, January 13, 2023, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM with a rosary prayed at 3:45 PM. Visitation was held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on Saturday, January 14, 2023, from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM Memorials may be directed to Avoca Fire Department and Avoca EMS or Second Harvest Food Bank. The Pratt Funeral and Cremation Service assisted the family with arrangements. Prattfuneralservice.com

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband Pete, daughter Sharon Tainter, son-in-law Dean Tainter, grandson Jerad Kolman, eight sisters and three brothers. Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at the United Church of Muscoda, Presbyterian with burial following in the Muscoda Cemetery. Visitation was on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at the United Church on Muscoda, Presbyterian from 9:00 AM until 10:45 AM. The family suggests memorials in Betty’s name be directed to the United Church of Muscoda, Presbyterian or Riverdale Healthcare. The Pratt Funeral and Cremation Service assisted the family with their arrangements.

Your

Resource Responsibilities of various members of a wedding party Participating in a wedding party is an honor. Couples invite many people to their weddings, and the select few asked to be in the party are typically those individuals with whom the couples shares a strong and special bond. The role of the wedding party is not merely symbolic. Though it’s up to the happy couple to determine how involved they want their wedding party to be, individuals asked to be in the party should know that their acceptance of these roles carries with it a certain level of responsibility. Maid of Honor The maid of honor may bear the most responsibility of any wedding party member. Maids of honor typically help with the planning of the wedding, offering advice and opinions on everything from the bride’s gown to the bridesmaid dresses and anything else a couple might need help with. If the bride asks, the maid of honor may be asked to organize dress fittings and attend them as well. A maid of honor typically plays an active, and often the lead, role in planning the bachelorette party. Come the day of the wedding, the maid of honor helps the bride prepare and may organize the bridesmaids to ensure everyone stays on schedule. A maid of honor typically toasts the happy couple during the reception as well. Best Man Like the maid of honor, the best man has some ex-

tra responsibilities before the wedding and during the festivities. A best man may organize tux fittings, plan the bachelor party, help make arrangements if the groom requests help, and be asked to hold the rings on the day of the ceremony. A best man toast is common during the reception, and some grooms ask their best men to distribute tips to vendors at the end of the night. Bridesmaids Bridesmaids often help the maid of honor plan the bachelorette party, and they also help to organize the bridal shower if the bride chooses to have one. Bridesmaids can offer input on wedding planning, particularly if they’re already married, though that is not necessarily required. Bridesmaids also can help relieve stress on the bride by being as agreeable as possible when scheduling dress fittings. Groomsmen Groomsmen help to plan the bachelor party and may be asked to provide some support prior to the ceremony. For example, on the day of the wedding, groomsmen may be asked to show guests, particularly elderly friends and family of the couple, to their seats. Like their bridesmaid counterparts, groomsmen can be especially helpful by doing what’s asked of them without resistance. Arriving on time to tuxedo fittings and offering insight when they think it might help are some simple ways groomsmen can pitch in.

Flower Girl/Ring Bearer Often reserved for children, the roles of flower girls and ring bearers only require some simple participation during the ceremony. Flower girls drop petals as they precede down the aisle ahead of the wedding party, while the ringer bearer carries the ring down the aisle. If these roles will be filled by especially young children, couples may choose to have them walk down the aisle together. Parents of the couple Parents of the bride and groom typically play supportive roles but may be asked to give speeches during the rehearsal dinner or the reception. The father of the bride typically walks her down the aisle, while the mother will likely spend the day of the ceremony at the bride’s side as they get ready. Parents of the groom do not have any traditional responsibilities, though the groom and his mother customarily share a mother/son dance during the reception. Couples need not feel compelled to assign bridal party members these duties if they don’t feel comfortable doing so. However, sharing some of the responsibilities of wedding planning can help couples enjoy the process more and keep party members engaged.

A wedding party plays a key role in both the ceremony and reception. Participants do everything from helping couples make decisions to addressing invitations to providing emotional support. As so much is asked of the wedding party – particularly the maid/matron of honor and bridesmaids – it’s customary to bestow gifts on those people who devoted so much time and effort to the wedding. These potential bridesmaid gifts can serve as a thoughtful and unique to way to thank bridesmaids for all that they’ve done.

around for the wedding, bridesmaids may need a little extra pampering. Gift cards to a local spa can fit the bill.

Weddings are steeped in tradition. Some of those traditions may be exclusive to particular families, but many others are embraced by families of various backgrounds. Couples needn’t feel beholden to popular wedding traditions, but some may feel that these customs make their weddings more fun and serve as a great way to connect their ceremonies with those of their parents, grandparents and possibly even their ancestors. Old, new, borrowed, blue The rhyme “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue” is likely familiar to people about to get married. This traditional rhyme has existed for centuries and refers to items a bride should wear and keep with her on her wedding day.The old alludes to a bride’s past, the new refers to her future, the borrowed is intended to be something borrowed from a married couple or bride, and the blue is a symbol of purity, love and fidelity. These items are traditionally given to the bride-tobe by family members or female friends who are already married.

Bridal veil It’s now up to brides if they want to wear a veil on their wedding day, but it was once a tradition all brides adhered to. Some trace the tradition back to ancient Greece, while others suggest the tradition began in the days of the Roman Empire. Veils were believed to shield brides from evil spirits on her wedding day, thus paving the way for a healthy and happy future. Many brides still wear veils today, though likely due more to their aesthetic appeal than out of a belief that the veil will ward off evil spirits. Breaking glass Couples break glass for different reasons on their wedding days. Within the Jewish faith, one member of the couple will stomp on a carefully wrapped glass to serve as a reminder of the destruction of the Jewish temples and to inspire reflection among those in attendance. Italian newlyweds also may smash glass, but they’ll do it with a little more gusto. Local tradition in Italy dictated that, at the end of the wedding, the newly married couple would smash a wine glass. Folklore suggests that the number of pieces the glass breaks into indicates how many years the couple will stay together.

Your Donated Vehicle Can Help Change A Life! For forty years Rawhide has been helping court-referred and at-risk young men from communities like yours. Each year thousands of people donate their vehicles to help the young men. Many donors find the fair market value of their vehicle exceeds the trade-in value. Proceeds from the sale of donated vehicles, trucks, boats, RVs, campers, and real estate have given hundreds of young men an opportunity to change their lives.
