Lesson: Have you ever wondered why your eyes sometimes tricks you into seeing things that aren't there? That's what you call an Optical Illusion, it occurs when your eyesight is deceived into seeing things different than what the object is, but you may ask yourself, how does it work and when was it discovered? That's the phenomenon that we'll tackle today in this module, we will learn about the origins and different types of Optical Illusions.

Origins of Optical Illusion: The history of optical illusions can be traced back to 450 B.C. in Ancient Greece, a Greek philosopher named Epicharmus, he believed that our senses could trick us to seeing images that are deceptive, creating an optical illusion. On the other hand, Protagoras, another Greek philosopher, believed that it is the environments that are messing up our senses. After for a while Greek philosopher who goes by the name of Aristotle who lived in the 350 B.C. said that both Epicharmus and Protagoras we're right and wrong. He believes that senses can be trusted but can easily be deceived. As time passes by, in the 19th century, Johannes Mueller and J.J. Oppel developed interest in the topic of optical illusions, so they wrote numerous articles and books about this topic. Optical illusions rose to popularity due to the studies and experiments made by the psychologists.

How does Optical Illusions work? Optical Illusions has become a thing of today. They are used in art, music, jobs, and entertainment. We see them everywhere, to images, videos, newspapers, books, even on technologies, but how does Optical Illusion work? Optical illusions, also known as visual illusions, are made up of visual deception. Due to the way the images are arranged, the effect of colors, the impact of light source or other factors, a wide range of misleading visual effects are perceived by the human eye. Some people may not experience optical illusions, for some illusions, they don't feel it's effects.

Types of Optical Illusion: There are 3 main types of illusions that you should know such as Literal, Physiological and Cognitive. A literal illusion is when your eyesight sees the object or an imagine different from what it's supposed to mean, Physiological optical illusions are more complex because they reply on the over stimulation of the brain’s senses, lastly, Cognitive optical illusions are the most researched by scientists and psychologists because it is the most complex type of trick the eye can play on the brain.

Lists of popular Optical Illusion: Artists, researchers, and entertainers alike uses optical illusions to trick people’s vision whenever it’s for entertainment or research purposes and they’re usually everywhere like the internet, newspapers, televisions etc. Here are some examples:
