IMPLEMENTATION OF SOLO TAXONOMY IN SYMBIOSIS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL (SIS)

SOLO TAXONOMY SOLO (Structure of Observed Learning Outcomes) offers a structured outline for the learners to build their learning and thinking. It motivates students to ponder where they are presently in terms of their level of understanding, and what they must do to progress.

LEVELS OF SOLO TAXONOMY There are five stages of understanding of SOLO Taxonomy. It's levels are hierarchical and each level is affected by the previous level and contributes something to it.

SOLO HEXAGONAL THINKING PYP Learners used the SOLO Hexagons to reflect on their prior knowledge of the concept- ‘Visual Arts’. The hexagonal tool allowed them to make deeper connections leading to good conceptual understanding.

SOLO HOT MAPS-THINKING TOOL The SOLO HOT (Higher Order Thinking) Maps can be used as an effective strategies that help learners to bring in ideas, relate ideas and/or extend ideas. The learners are able to make meaningful and insightful connections using these maps.

SOLO CAUSE AND EFFECT MAP

SOLO CHECKLIST PYP-1 Learners co-constructed the checklist for the formative assessment on the unit ‘Life cycles’ under the theme -How the World Works. The checklist was supported with comments from learners and was annotated by the facilitator.

SOLO RUBRICS Learners of PYP-4 co-constructed the rubrics for the Poetry unit under the theme How we express ourselves.The success criteria were added after the completion of each line of inquiry.

SOLO EXIT TICKET PYP-2 Learners used SOLO exit ticket to reflect on their learning journey for the unit on ‘Self Awareness’. The prompts on the slip helped learners to assess their learning progress.

SOLO LEARNING CONTINUUM PYP-5 Learners created a SOLO Learning continuum to track their learning progress during the unit on ‘Rights and Responsibilities’ under the theme Who we Are.

SOLO QUESTION CARDS PYP-3 Learners used SOLO Question cards for the Assessment FOR learning in the Matter unit under the theme- How the World Works. The Question cards were based on each level of SOLO and were stuck on the stations.
