Whilst some of you may dread hearing the ‘C’ word, here in PPHQ we’ve been thinking about this year’s Christmas since last January! AŌer much deliberaƟon and many meeƟngs, we have decided to do it all again and release our 4th Christmas Advent Calendar. AŌer the release of our first calendar back in 2019, we’ve had many discussions on how we can make the advent calendar more accessible to more people. From upping the amount we produce, to releasing them in Ɵme slots on a weekend; we hope there will be many more happy customers this year! We also hope this newsleƩer helps you with any quesƟons that you may have and that it helps communicate to you all the ‘important informaƟon’. Back at the start of 2019, whilst having our annual ’what are we going to launch’ meeƟng, Bea came up with the idea of launching an Advent Calendar. From the outset we wanted it to consist of 25 brand new (unseen) kits and aŌer months of planning, our first ever advent calendar was complete. Although we thought that there would be some interest in our calendar, we were (and sƟll are) completely blown away by the level of interest. The 2019 calendar sold out in just 4 minutes! For us to produce our advent calendar, the preparaƟons start as early as possible and as with all our new products, the process begins with a meeƟng. We discuss everything from the design of the advent calendar, how it will be displayed, costs and most importantly what Bea plans to design for it. Following our meeƟng, Bea then goes away and works through the mammoth task of designing, prototyping, photographing and wriƟng all the instrucƟons. Meanwhile, I am tasked with sourcing all materials required; from pegs to thousands of meters of twine and everything in between. I also liaise with our printer in order to work through the artwork and ensure that our ideas are viable. Once Bea has signed off the 25 kits, Tony then picks up the producƟon line and starts cuƫng out & packaging the thousands of kits. Months aŌer our first meeƟng , the 2022 kits are now finally complete and ready to be parcelled up into the final advent calendars. AŌer the success of our previous calendars, we are always thinking as to how we can improve the buying process for you the customer. So... yet again, we have DOUBLED the amount of calendars we will release in both scales (1:48th & 1:24th). This meant that the amount of kits we've needed to produce has run into the 10’s of thousands. But... despite all our hard work, we (sƟll) know that we wont be able to please everyone (we’re not a jar of Nutella) and some customers will miss out... but please know, we have tried our hardest to be able to release as many advent calendars as we are physically able to. Alongside an increased producƟon, we have also reviewed the Ɵmes the 2022 advent calendar will be released online and we have broken it down into 4 Ɵme slots, with each Ɵme slot being allocated a limited amount of advent calendars. We have also changed the release day to a SATURDAY. We really do hope that the changes we have made, combined with a much higher number of calendars available, will mean that we will be able to make many more of you happy this year! In PPHQ, when it comes to the advent calendar, the most talked about topic has been; ‘what Ɵme are we going to release it?’ However, coming up with a soluƟon is not quite as simple as you may think. We, as a company, ship all over the world from Canada, to, New Zealand, Europe, Hawaii, Norway, USA & Australia, just to name but a few... That means we cover a LOT of Ɵme zones!! This year, will follow the same format as last years calendar, as we have found that is works best for all of our worldwide customers. Not only is the release day going to be a Saturday, but also we will be keeping mulƟple ‘Ɵme slots’ for our calendar releases. This means, that there will be a limited number of advent calendars released at each slot. Postage... Postage for the advent calendar is FREE worldwide. This is for standard postage ONLY, if you want to upgrade to TRACKED postage, then this can be done at check out at an addiƟonal cost. Please note, if you are buying other items at the same Ɵme as your advent calendar, you will be charged postage on your other items. However, if you are charged for postage when trying to check out and have no other items in your basket, conƟnue to check out to secure your advent calendar and we will refund your postage costs. Advent Calendars will be posted in November, so that they are delivered on or before 1st December. However, we are at the mercy of the postal service and therefore we sadly can not guarantee that the world wide postal services will be running on Ɵme! During our ‘big mail out’ we will keep in contact with Royal Mail for regular updates on any delays to the postal service and of course, in turn, we strive to keep our customers updated too. Due to postal delivery Ɵmes, we will, be prioriƟsing the despatch of overseas orders first, starƟng further afield and working our way back closer to home. And finally... Puƫng together Ɵny bits on furniture can seem a liƩle tricky, but with Bea’s top Ɵps it can be easier than you think! Read the instrucƟons from beginning to end, before starƟng work on construcƟng the kit. Have everything that you will need close to hand. Always work on a flat clean surface, in good light. I always use a Builder’s Bond PVA adhesive, NOT a craŌ PVA as these are more oŌen watery and not very sƟcky. If you can’t find any Builder’s Bond PVA, a good quality Tacky Glue will do the job. I decant my adhesive into a glue applicator that has a fine Ɵp and makes construcƟng 1:48th scale furniture so much easier. I always keep a stash of coƩon buds on my work bench and use them to clean away excess adhesive, throughout the construcƟon process. When sƟcking parts together, don’t rush! Wait unƟl the adhesive has completely dried before conƟnuing. Remember a 90° angle, needs to be a 90° angle. Blocks of Lego are ideal to help to support parts as the adhesive dries. Whenever I start a new project, I always put a brand new blade into my scalpel so that the tabs that are aƩached to the kit pieces can be cut cleanly and evenly. In my opinion, tweezers are a MUST!
