Our Vision

For everyone to matter in life and death.

What we do

St Nicholas Hospice Care works throughout West Suffolk and Thetford to provide care to people and their families living with dying, caring and grief. Our services are available free of charge to those who need them.

How we can help

St Nicholas Hospice Care is committed to providing the best possible clinical care. Some people may come to us for a short stay on our Sylvan Ward, so we can improve the quality of their life, but our main focus is on providing end-of-life care wherever it is needed.

Community Hospice Team

Our Community Hospice Team provides personalised care. This care can be given in a person’s own home, the Hospice or a combination of both. The team strives to ensure people feel in control of the care they receive, thus maintaining their independence. Our Psychological Services Team offers a confidential counselling service and a bereavement service for both adults and children. The aim of this service is to help people come to terms with their loss.

Call our 24/7 advice line for health care professionals and families if you need support with symptom management and end of life care.

Spirituality

Spirituality is explored at the Hospice. Members of the Chaplaincy Team offer help and encouragement to all those who seek it, embracing all beliefs. The team is there to listen as people come to terms with their changing position in life, and along with their loved ones, the team helps them to find courage, hope and understanding.

Education

The Education Team designs and provides palliative care courses and seminars for professionals from other organisations, as well as overseeing in-house training for staff and volunteers.

Volunteers

St Nicholas Hospice Care would not be where it is today without the dedicated support of more than 500 volunteers who are very much the backbone of the Hospice. Volunteers help out in every aspect of hospice care, on our Sylvan Ward, on reception, arranging flowers, in our shops, at our Donation Centre, driving, in the garden and in the community through our Hospice Neighbours project.

Join us

Our retail volunteers are at the heart of everything our teams do. By giving their time to our shops, Donation Centre and online operations, volunteers make a huge difference, helping to raise much-needed funds to ensure the Hospice can be there for those who need our support. Our retail roles are varied and flexible, so if you have some time to give, please get in touch, we’d love to hear from you: [email protected] or visit our website: www.stnicholashospice.org.uk

Thank you to our community

While we do receive some funding from the NHS, we still need to raise more than £12,000 every dayfrom donations and fundraising. This includes money raised through St Nicholas Hospice Care’s Donation Centre in Bury St Edmunds and our retail shops. We are very grateful for the generosity of local individuals, groups and companies without whose enduring support we would be unable to continue. Donations and legacy gifts are always appreciated.
