The New Birth

Jesús respondió a un fariseo que pensaba conocer las cosas acerca del reino de Dios y le dijo: Juan 3:3 Respondió Jesús y le dijo: De cierto, de cierto te digo, que el que no naciere de nuevo, no puede ver el reino de Dios.

Jesus answered a Pharisee who thought he knew the things about the Kingdom of God and said to him: John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

No se puede suponer conocer nada del Reino de Dios sin antes NACER DE NUEVO. Pablo el apóstol dice lo mismo en: 1Co 2:14 Pero el hombre natural no percibe las cosas que son del Espíritu de Dios, porque para él son locura, y no las puede entender, porque se han de discernir espiritualmente.

One cannot suppose to know anything about the Kingdom of God without having first been BORN AGAIN. Apostle Paul says the same in: 1Co 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

1Co 2:7 Mas hablamos sabiduría de Dios en misterio, la sabiduría oculta, la cual Dios predestinó antes de los siglos para nuestra gloria, 8 la que ninguno de los príncipes de este siglo conoció; porque si la hubieran conocido, nunca habrían crucificado al Señor de gloria.

1Co 2:7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory: 1Co 2:8 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

Cristo sigue enseñando: Juan 3:5 Respondió Jesús: De cierto, de cierto te digo, que el que no naciere de agua y del Espíritu, no puede entrar en el reino de Dios.

Christ goes on teaching: Joh 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

No se puede ver ni se puede entrar en el reino de Dios sin antes haber nacido de agua y del Espíritu.

One cannot see nor enter in the Kingdom of God without first being born of water and of the Spirit.

Nacer de Agua: ¿Para qué es y qué representa el agua? El agua limpia. Al nacer un bebe siempre se tiene agua a mano para limpiarlo. Vemos otros versículos que nos indican a que representa el agua. Ef 5:25 … Cristo amó a la iglesia, y se entregó a sí mismo por ella, 26 para santificarla, habiéndola purificado en el lavamiento del agua por la palabra, 27 a fin de presentársela a sí mismo, una iglesia gloriosa, que no tuviese mancha ni arruga ni cosa semejante, sino que fuese santa y sin mancha.

Born of Water: Why Water? And what does it represent? Water cleanses. Upon birth of a new born child, water is always made ready to clean him. Let’s see other verses which will indicate to us what the water represent. Eph 5:25 … Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; 26 that he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, 27 that he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

Juan 15:3 Ya vosotros estáis limpios por la palabra que os he hablado.

John 15:3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.

Juan 13:8 Pedro le dijo: No me lavarás los pies jamás. Jesús le respondió: Si no te lavare, no tendrás parte conmigo.

John 13:8 Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.

Si no somos lavados por la Palabra de Cristo, no podemos ver el reino ni entrar en el reino, ni tendremos ninguna parte con Cristo. Más adelante veremos otro versículo que demuestra la necesidad imperiosa de la Palabra de Dios para el Nuevo Nacimiento.

If we are not washed by the Words of Christ, we cannot see the Kingdom, no enter into the Kingdom nor do we have any part with Christ. Later on we will see another verse which proves to us the imperial need of the Word of God for the New Birth.

Nacer del Espíritu: Esta parte es más sencilla entender. El Espíritu de Dios es la Tercera Persona de la Trinidad quien opera el milagro del nuevo nacimiento en nuestro espíritu.

Born of the Spirit: This part is easier for us to understand. The Spirit of God is the Third Person of the Trinity who operates the miracle of the New Birth in our spirit.

El Antes y el Después: Juan 3:6 Lo que es nacido de la carne, carne es; y lo que es nacido del Espíritu, espíritu es. 7 No te maravilles de que te dije: Os es necesario nacer de nuevo.

Before and After: John 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

El Antes: “Lo que es nacido de la carne, carne es;” Nuestro premier nacimiento hizo de nosotros hombres y mujeres naturales, descendientes y herederos de Adán y Eva quienes desobedecieron a Dios y murieron espiritualmente. Dios había dicho avisado claramente: Gen 2:17 mas del árbol de la ciencia del bien y del mal no comerás; porque el día que de él comieres, ciertamente morirás.

Before: “What is born of the flesh is flesh;” Our first birth made of us Natural men and women, descendents and heirs of Adam and Eve who disobeyed God and died spiritually. God had clearly warned:

Lo que nació de nuestros padres es la naturaleza carnal del hombre caído, del hombre que desobedece, que está apartado de Dios. Hemos heredado esta naturaleza caída, desobediente, insumisa y rebelde a Dios. Hemos heredado esta naturaleza y TAMBIÉN hemos pecado de voluntad propia. Al igual que Adán, nosotros, antes de Cristo, estábamos muertos en nuestros delitos y pecados.

What was born from our parents is the carnal nature, the fallen man, the disobedient man, the man alienated from God. We have inherited this fallen nature, disobedient, non-submissive and rebellious to God. We inherited this nature and ALSO, have sinned of our own free will. Just as Adam, we too before Christ, were dead in our trespasses and sins.

Veamos: Ef 2:1 …. estabais muertos en vuestros delitos y pecados, 2 en los cuales anduvisteis en otro tiempo, siguiendo la corriente de este mundo, conforme al príncipe de la potestad del aire (el diablo), el espíritu que ahora opera en los hijos de desobediencia, 3 entre los cuales también todos nosotros vivimos en otro tiempo en los deseos de nuestra carne, haciendo la voluntad de la carne y de los pensamientos, y éramos por naturaleza hijos de ira, lo mismo que los demás.

Let’s see: Eph 2:1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; 2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air (the devil), the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: 3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

El Problema:  muertos en nuestros delitos y pecados  siguiendo la corriente de este mundo  sujetos del diablo  hijos de desobediencia  en los deseos de nuestra carne  haciendo la voluntad de la carne y de los pensamientos  por naturaleza hijos de ira Rom 8:6 Porque el ocuparse de la carne es muerte, pero el ocuparse del Espíritu es vida y paz. 7 Por cuanto los designios de la carne son enemistad contra Dios; porque no se sujetan a la ley de Dios, ni tampoco pueden;

The Problem:  dead in our trespasses and sins;  walking according to the course of this world,  a subject of the devil  children of disobedience:  in the lusts of our flesh,  fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind;  by nature the children of wrath Rom 8:6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

El hombre y la mujer sin Cristo, aún siendo como se dice comúnmente, “buenas personas”, son enemigos de Dios, no se sujetan a la ley de Dios, ni tampoco lo pueden. El versículo 8 añade:

Men and women without Christ, though often referred to as “good persons”, are enemies against God. They do not submit to the law of God, neither indeed can. Verse 8 adds:

Romanos 8:8 y los que viven según la carne no pueden agradar a Dios.

Romans 8:8 They that are in the flesh cannot please God.

Ahora entendemos mejor las palabras de Cristo quien nos enseña: Juan 3:6 Lo que es nacido de la carne, carne es; y lo que es nacido del Espíritu, espíritu es. 7 No te maravilles de que te dije: Os es necesario nacer de nuevo.

We now understand better the Words of Christ who teaches us: John 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

¡Es maravilloso pensar que Dios nos dio una solución para que podamos evitar estar viviendo en la carne!

It’s marvelous knowing that God has given us a solution to allow us to avoid living in the flesh!

El Después: “Lo que es nacido del Espíritu, espíritu es.” Aunque el hecho de nacer de nuevo es posible por la obra de Jesucristo en la Cruz, es el Espíritu Santo que obra el nuevo nacimiento en el nuevo creyente. “Nacido del Espíritu”. Es por la obra del Espíritu que Dios vivifica nuestro espíritu humano que estaba muerto. Después de esta operación del Espíritu Santo, nuestro espíritu es vivificado “resucitado” y vive. “Lo que es nacido del Espíritu, espíritu es.” ¡Es un enorme regalo poder “NACER de NUEVO” y ser vivos para Dios! 1Co 6:9 ¿No sabéis que los injustos no heredarán el reino de Dios? No erréis; ni los fornicarios, ni los idólatras, ni los adúlteros, ni los afeminados, ni los que se echan con varones, 10 ni los ladrones, ni los avaros, ni los borrachos, ni los maldicientes, ni los estafadores, heredarán el reino de Dios. 11 Y esto erais algunos; mas ya habéis sido lavados, ya habéis sido santificados, ya habéis sido justificados en el nombre del Señor Jesús, y por el Espíritu de nuestro Dios.

After: ”That which is born of the Spirit is spirit,”

Estos últimos versículos nos dan más información acerca de lo que pasa durante el nuevo nacimiento. 1. lavados 2. santificados 3. justificados

These last verses give us more information about what takes place at the new birth. 1. washed 2. sanctified 3. justified

1. Lavados: En la primera página de este estudio vimos la necesidad de ser lavados por el agua de la Palabra de Dios que como patrón de lo que Dios desea para nuestras vidas, nos sigue limpiando cuando la aplicamos a nuestras vidas.

1. Washed: On the first page of this study we saw the need to be washed by the water of the Word of God. The Word is the Moral Standard of what God desires for our lives. The Word keeps washing us when we apply it to our lives.

Es la sangre de Cristo que nos limpia de nuestros pecados, los borra y los quita completamente. Mat 26:28 … es mi sangre del nuevo pacto, que por muchos es derramada para remisión de los pecados.

It is the blood of Christ who washes us from our sins, who blots them out completely. Mat 26:28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

Se puede resumir así. La sangre de Cristo limpia y quita cada pecado que hemos cometido y cometemos. La Palabra de Dios nos limpia de nuestra naturaleza pecaminosa mientras la aplicamos a nuestras vidas.

We can conclude that: The Blood of Christ washes and takes away every sin which we have committed and will commit. The Word of God, while we apply it to our lives, will wash us of our sinful nature.

Though the act of the new birth is only possible because of Jesus Christ’s work on the cross, it is the Holy Spirit who operates the new birth in the new believer. “Born of the Spirit”. It is by the work of the Holy Spirit that God makes our human spirit alive who was dead. The Holy Spirit quickens and makes alive “resuscitates” our spirit. “That which is born of the Spirit is spirit.” What an amazing gift to be able to be “BORN AGAIN” and be alive unto God! 1Co 6:9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, 10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

2. Santificados: Esta palabra significa “consagrados” para Dios y sus propósitos. Los versículos que siguen representan la obra que Cristo hizo en la cruz para santificarnos/ consagrarnos. Juan 17:19 Y por ellos yo me santifico a mí mismo, para que también ellos sean santificados en la verdad. Heb 13:12 Por lo cual también Jesús, para santificar al pueblo mediante su propia sangre, padeció fuera de la puerta. Heb 10:10 En esa voluntad somos santificados mediante la ofrenda del cuerpo de Jesucristo hecha una vez para siempre.

2. Sanctified: This word means “consecrated” unto God and for His Purposes. The following verses show the Work Christ did on the cross to sanctify / consecrate us.

Esta obra de consagración, empezada por Jesús en el nuevo nacimiento ha de ser desarrollada y perfeccionada en nuestras vidas. 2Co 7:1 Así que, amados, puesto que tenemos tales promesas, limpiémonos de toda contaminación de carne y de espíritu, perfeccionando la santidad en el temor de Dios. Rom 6:19 Hablo como humano, por vuestra humana debilidad; que así como para iniquidad presentasteis vuestros miembros para servir a la inmundicia y a la iniquidad, así ahora para santificación presentad vuestros miembros para servir a la justicia. Rom 6:22 Mas ahora que habéis sido libertados del pecado y hechos siervos de Dios, tenéis por vuestro fruto la santificación, y como fin, la vida eterna.

This work of consecration, started by Jesus in us during the New Birth, has to develop and be perfected in our lives. 2Co 7:1 Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

3. Justificados: (hechos justos para con Dios) El siguiente pasaje nos da abundantes detalles de la obra de Justificación que el Espíritu Santo obra en aquellos que creen en la obra expiatoria y sustitutiva de Jesucristo. Rom 3:22 la justicia de Dios por medio de la fe en Jesucristo, para todos los que creen en él. Porque no hay diferencia, 23 por cuanto todos pecaron, y están destituidos de la gloria de Dios, 24 siendo justificados gratuitamente por su gracia, mediante la redención que es en Cristo Jesús, 25 a quien Dios puso como propiciación por medio de la fe en su sangre, para manifestar su justicia, a causa de haber pasado por alto, en su paciencia, los pecados pasados, 26 con la mira de manifestar en este tiempo su justicia, a fin de que él sea el justo, y el que justifica al que es de la fe de Jesús. 27 ¿Dónde, pues, está la jactancia? Queda excluida. ¿Por cuál ley? ¿Por la de las obras? No, sino por la ley de la fe. 28 Concluimos, pues, que el hombre es justificado por fe sin las obras de la ley.

3. Justified: (Right-standing with God) The following passage gives us abundant details of the Work of Justification operated by the Holy Spirit in the lives of those who believes in Christ’s expiatory and substitutive work. Rom 3:22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: 23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; 24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: 25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; 26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus. 27 Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith. 28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.

La fe actúa en primer lugar, creyendo que Cristo pagó el precio de nuestra condenación; y que al entregar su vida justa por nosotros, lo hizo para que nosotros que creemos en Él, recibamos el don de su justicia.

Faith firstly operates by believing Christ has paid the price for our condemnation; and that by giving His righteous life for us, He did it so, we who believe in Him, would receive His gift of Righteousness.

Joh 17:19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth. Heb 13:12 Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate. Heb 10:10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

Rom 6:19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness. Rom 6:22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.

En segundo lugar, la misma fe que recibe su justicia a cambio de nuestros pecados, nos lleva a mantenernos alejados de un estilo de vida incompatible con el don de la justicia que hemos recibido. Rom 2:13 porque no son los oidores de la ley los justos ante Dios, sino los hacedores de la ley serán justificados.

Secondly, the same faith which allows us to receive His Righteousness in counterpart of our sins, leads us to stay away from a lifestyle incompatible with the gift of Righteousness which we have received. Rom 2:13 For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.

Si bien no podemos crear o fabricar la justicia de Dios en nosotros, pues es un regalo de Dios, tenemos la responsabilidad de mantenerla o, como dice la Escritura: Apo 7:14 … han lavado sus ropas, y las han emblanquecido en la sangre del Cordero.

Though we cannot create or manufacture the righteousness of God in us, it is a gift of God; we have the responsibility to keep it and live righteously. The Scripture also says: Rev 7:14 …they have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

Nuevas Criaturas: Ahora que hemos nacido de nuevo por el Espíritu de nuestro Dios, y que hemos sido hechos vivos en Dios, debemos andar de una forma completamente nueva. 2Co 5:17 De modo que si alguno está en Cristo, nueva criatura es; las cosas viejas pasaron; he aquí todas son hechas nuevas. 18 Y todo esto proviene de Dios, quien nos reconcilió consigo mismo por Cristo, …

New Creatures: Now that we have been born again by the Spirit of our God, and that we have been made alive in God, we must walk in a completely new way. 2Co 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, …

1Pe 1:17 Y si invocáis por Padre a aquel que sin acepción de personas juzga según la obra de cada uno, conducíos en temor todo el tiempo de vuestra peregrinación; 18 sabiendo que fuisteis rescatados de vuestra vana manera de vivir, la cual recibisteis de vuestros padres, no con cosas corruptibles, como oro o plata, 19 sino con la sangre preciosa de Cristo, como de un cordero sin mancha y sin contaminación, 20 ya destinado desde antes de la fundación del mundo, pero manifestado en los postreros tiempos por amor de vosotros, 21 y mediante el cual creéis en Dios, quien le resucitó de los muertos y le ha dado gloria, para que vuestra fe y esperanza sean en Dios. 22 Habiendo purificado vuestras almas por la obediencia a la verdad, mediante el Espíritu, para el amor fraternal no fingido, amaos unos a otros entrañablemente, de corazón puro; 23 siendo renacidos, no de simiente corruptible, sino de incorruptible, por la palabra de Dios que vive y permanece para siempre.

1Pe 1:17 And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear: 18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; 19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: 20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, 21 Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God. 22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently: 23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

En estos versículos vemos que aunque se haya nacido de nuevo Dios nos va a juzgar según la obra de cada uno. Por ello hemos de conducirnos en temor y temblor durante todo el tiempo de nuestra peregrinación.

In these verses we see that though we have been born again God will still judge us according to every man’s work. For this reason we ought to fear God all the days of our pilgrimage here on planet Earth.

Hemos sido rescatados de nuestra vana manera de vivir, así que no podemos seguir viviendo en ella. Hemos de purificar nuestras almas por la obediencia a la verdad, mediante el Espíritu.

We have been rescued of our vain manner of living, therefore we cannot continue living in it. We have to purify our souls in obeying the truth and that, by the help of the Holy Spirit.

Jesús dijo que no nos dejaría huérfanos (solos) pero que enviaría al Espíritu Santo para darnos el poder necesario para la tarea.

Jesus said He would not leave us orphans (alone) but would send the Holy Spirit to energize us in the task.
