Hoover’s Story As a puppy, Hoover was trained to be a service dog. He worked very hard

learning to help people with disabilities, and then went to live with a soldier who needed help after fighting for our country. Hoover learned many commands, including “Salute!” when he would raise one front paw to his forehead!

Hoover was great at helping people, but one day his veterinarian discovered

that he had a problem with his eyes. Soon Hoover would be blind, so he could not do his job anymore. Hoover needed to be adopted.

When Jon and Jeni saw a message about a dog named Hoover needing a

special home, they said, “That dog belongs with us.” So Jon and Jeni, their three kids, their friendly dog named Penny and two cats all welcomed Hoover into their home.

Hoover learned to use his amazing senses of smell and hearing to navigate

around his new house and yard. With help from Penny especially, Hoover settled in with his new family.

You might think it’s sad that Hoover lost his sight, but he lives a very happy life! He does everything any dog can do. He walks in the woods, he plays, he goes

on vacation with his family, and of course, he begs for treats! He is surrounded by people (and animals) who love him and he loves them too.
