We are looking to return to winning wins this afternoon and bounce back from last weekend’s disappointing defeat to Sunderland in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup. I couldn’t have asked for more from the girls last Sunday, but we just unfortunately couldn’t find the back of the net. Hopefully the team take confidence from the chances that they created and ensure they convert them this weekend. We had a fierce game against today’s opponents back at the start of the season as we drew 2-2 with them away from home. It was a dominating first half from us as we went 2-0 up thanks to two fantastic goals from Millie Chandarana and Saffron Jordan. We were gutted to concede twice in the second half and to be only left with a point but to come home with something against a very strong team is brilliant and today we will learn from the mistakes we made in that game. It is important to pick up a positive result this afternoon to ensure we head into the rest of the year full of confidence and your support today will help that. We hope you enjoy today’s game, and we look forward to seeing you at back at Bamber Bridge FC on Wednesday evening!

I would also like to extend my welcome to Karen Hills and her Charlton squad that have made the long journey up here this weekend.

We caught up with Shanell Salgado ahead of today’s game as the ‘keeper reflects on her first half of a season as a Rover. Shanell, how have you found your first four months with the club?
and grow as a player and to also be playing games is great.
I’ve very much enjoyed it and especially breaking into the starting 11 for league games which was a big aim of mine. I am grateful to have been given the opportunity and I made sure to hold it tight and run with it. I think I managed to help with the good results and points that we’ve got on the board. So, I’m happy with what I’ve achieved so far.
We disappointedly lost to Birmingham City in our final game of 2022, is your mind firmly set on putting that right?
Is it even more satisfying to come into the team and break into the starting 11 rather than walk straight into it when you join? It is very satisfying because when you join a new side it’s an environment that’s out of your comfort zone and even being up North is a brand new area to me. I’ve learnt a lot about myself since moving here and how to react
Absolutely. Everybody makes mistakes and I made one of them in that game so for me it was a mental challenge to look back at all the games I played well in this season and see how my mindset was different for that game compared to the others. I think I’ve got back to that mindset now and ready to get back playing. What is your goal for 2023? For me it’s getting as many clean sheets as possible and points. I want to help us get up the league table. I also really want to get an assist on an counterattack.
