Commodore Girish Kulgod Commanding Officer, INS Satavahana Chairman Vidyalaya Management Committee

Message It is a matter of pride to pen down the message for E- magazine of Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 2 Srivijaynagar. My heart fills with immense pleasure as I perceive the progress being made in both scholastic and non- scholastic fields. In fact Education all over the world is undergoing radical shift. Knowledge is no longer constrained by time and space. It has expanded beyond the classroom and school campuses which we experienced it in present pandemic situation. Hence continuous mentoring, monitoring and evaluation of learning environment need to be done to provide required intellectual stimulation to the young minds As a chairman I could see the school scaling greater heights and emerging no 3 in entire Visakhapatnam schools. Hope kv2 SVN will continue to be the leader in education I extend warm wishes to the principal, the staff and the students to continue their journey on the road of excellence.

Commander Syed Moin Basha Senior Education Officer Chairman Nominee, Vidyalaya Management Committee

Message The Process of imparting Education is fast changing. In a short span, the teaching methodologies have evolved from contact to non-contact mode of learning. School has more responsibilities than past, to impart not only knowledge but also inculcate values in children. The efforts poured in during the prolonged COVID holiday, by school and parents to balance both the scales are praiseworthy. The hard work executed by the Staff in augmenting education and sports infrastructure during COVID scenario would help students to learn in a more active environment. The dedication and commitment of teachers was visible in performance of the students. The progress by the school in all spheres of education is a step in right direction. Vidyalaya Patrika is a forum to express, exhibit and showcase literary skills of our students. It is also a reckoner to look in the past and move ahead. I congratulate the editorial team for their sincere contributions towards making this e-magazine a success

Bees are impressive creatures, powering entire ecosystem via pollination and making sweet honey at the same time. It turns out that these stripped insects are quite clever. These little beings are very good at mathematics.

efficiently. If honey bees had not been

Wax is extremely valuable to the bees because it takes a lot of time and effort to make it. Hence it is an expensive task to build a honeycomb. They cannot make any random shapes. There must be a geometrical shape which is more economical to build than any other. Here, “more economical” means honey bees need a shape which requires the least amount of wax to build and store a lot of honey. In other words , the smallest lateral surface area and the maximum capacity. It is a mathematical approach. For instance, a circle cell can be only economical if it stands alone. However, if you put circle cells together, they cannot be logical since gaps will be left out and space will be wasted. A good economist doesn’t want any gaps. That’s why honey bees need to work with regular polygons.

smart, they could have gone with any one of these. But their knowledge in maths allowed them to go with the most magical and ideal structural shape, the hexagon. A hexagon is the shape that best fills a plane with equal size units and leaves no wasted space. Hexagonal packing also minimizes the perimeter for a given area because of its 120degree angles. With this structure, the pull of surface tension in each direction is most mechanically stable. By going with a hexagon, bees can use the least amount of wax to build their cells, yet have the most amount of storage space to keep their honey since hexagon has the maximum area compared to others. This shows that bees are great mathematicians. Isn’t it fascinating?

A triangle, a square, a pentagon, a hexagon, and other polygons are the options to choose to tessellate cells

One day I was going to the market on my bicycle to buy groceries. After buying all the groceries, I saw some change left in the pocket. Immediately my eyes fell on the pastry shop nearby. And my legs dragged me to the shop. When I reached the bakery, I saw a beggar right front of the shop. He had torn and filthy attire with lean and thin physic that one could count his bones; he was looking hungry, weak and his face with grief. I felt pity for him and gave him off my ten rupees. The moment he received it, he became very happy and thanked me. He said "God bless you for showing your kindness to me!" .I felt so happy and content by seeing him happy. I would not have enjoyed much if I had eaten pastry by myself with those ten rupees. Moral: Helping Others Begets Great Joy

“Covid-19” caused due to coronavirus is no more a new name to us. It has been affecting our lives for more than a year now. There must be no surprise in knowing that the most searched word in google in 2020 was Coronavirus. It has disrupted life as we knew all over the world. It set developing countries behind by 5 years in progress. It took away over 2.5 million people lives all around the world. It is the worst crisis this humanity has faced yet. Educators all around the world have also taken a major hit due to the pandemic. According to a report by UNESCO, 9 out of every 10 student’s education has been disrupted due to the pandemic. As the famous saying goes “Over darkness there always comes light, one must wait to see it”, During the lockdown there were many things I learnt. For Example, 1. I learnt dealing with the technology for online classes. 2. Different ways of online interaction with the students. It has been a great experience teaching kids from home. Since the kids know technology more than we do, there was always something new to learn from the students. Lastly enjoyed doing many courses in knowledge in teaching.

AIM HIGH SOAR HIGH “Shoot for the moon, even if you miss you’ll land among the stars” The glory of success can only be seen with the coordination of actions and thoughts. Nowadays, the era begins with the urge to search for shortcuts. The vogue of hard work has been replaced by that of smart work. People are so indulged in their life activities that they have forgotten importance of goal and patience to achieve it.

shore. Great goals only become great when they are implemented properly. The seed of aim doesn’t grow to the tree of success by itself; it needs proper nourishment in terms of hard work. A gun will never shoot unless you fire. Making big plans is essential, however we should also work for achieving them. A dream doesn’t become reality through magic; it needs constant efforts, sweat, hard work, determination and persistence. The fact is that we need to understand that nothing in the world comes easy. For everything great you have to make yourself deserving for that great. All miseries and problems give their out when you aim high and soar your goals.

Many people feel as if they’re adrift in the world. They work hard, but don’t seem to get anywhere worthwhile. A key reason that they feel this way is that they haven’t spent enough time thinking about what they want from life and haven’t set themselves formal goals. “Even for a journey, you have to think for the destination first.” Top - level athletes, successful celebrities, businessmen and even technology experts set aims that they need to achieve. Setting goals give you a long – term vision and incorporates a sense of motivation among individuals. It improves your planning and time management skills and also helps you organize your life and boosts your self confidence so that you can make out the most of your life.

Self belief and hard work will always earn you success. The thing is you have to believe in yourself, be persistent, aim high and fly high. Finally I want to state that every dream becomes reality with your efforts, no one is going to work for you. You need to understand your circumstances, make best out of the resources available and rise to the greatest.

GIMMICKS OF ALGEBRA WE ALL KNOW THAT A FATHER IS ALWAYS OLDER THAN HIS SON. BUT, IN ALGEBRA, WE CAN PROVE THAT THE AGE OF FATHER IS EQUAL TO HIS SON…

LET’S SEE HOW IT IS:

LET THE AGE OF THE FATHER BE ‘a’ LET THE AGE OF HIS SON BE ‘b’ LET THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THEIR AGES BE ‘c’ SO, ACCORDING TO FACT: a-b=c

………………(i)

NOW, MUTIPLYING BOTH SIDES OF (i) WITH (a – b) we get:

(a – b) x (a – b) = (c) x (a – b)    

a2 - ab - ab + b2 = ac – bc a2 – ab + b2 = ac – bc + ab …... [ by transposing (- ab) to R.H.S] a2 – ab – ac = ab – b2 – bc …… [ by transposing (ac) to L.H.S & (b2) to R.H.S] a (a – b – c) = b (a – b – c) …. [ taking ‘a’ common on L.H.S & ‘b’ common on R.H.S]

a=b THEREFORE, age

of father = age of son

“The Covid-19 pandemic draws the World’s attention to the vaccine, also reminds us of the importance of immunization, which says millions lives” let’s see how our body defends against viral infection.

tools needed to get over the infection. After the infection, the person’s immune system remembers what it learned about how to protect the body against that disease. The body keeps a few T-lymphocytes, called “memory cells”, that go into action quickly if the body encounters the same virus again. When the familiar antigens are detected, B-lymphocytes produce antibodies to attack them. Experts are still learning how long these memory cells protect a person against the virus that causes COVID-19.

How our bodies fight illness. Let us understand. When germs, such as the virus that causes Corona, enter our bodies, they attack and multiply. This attack is called an infection, is what causes illness. Our immune system uses several tools to fight infection. Blood contains RBC, WBC, Platelets and plasma, RBC carry oxygen to tissues and organs, and WBC or immune cells, which fight infection. Different types of white blood cells fight infection in different ways:

How vaccines work? Vaccines help our bodies develop immunity to the virus that causes COVID-19 without us having to get the illness. Different types of vaccines work in different ways to offer protection. But with all types of vaccines, the body is left with a supply of “memory” Tlymphocytes as well as B-lymphocytes that will remember how to fight that virus in the future.

1. Macrophages are white blood cells that swallow up and digest germs and dead or dying cells. The macrophages leave behind parts of the invading germs, called “antigens”. The body identifies antigens as dangerous and stimulates antibodies to attack them.

It typically takes a few weeks after vaccination for the body to produce Tlymphocytes and B-lymphocytes. Therefore, it is possible that a person could be infected with the virus that causes COVID-19 just before or just after vaccination and then get sick because the vaccine did not have enough time to provide protection.

2. B-lymphocytes are defensive white blood cells. They produce antibodies that attack the pieces of the virus left behind by the macrophages. 3. T-lymphocytes are another type of defensive white blood cell. They attack cells in the body that have already been infected.

Sometimes after vaccination, the process of building immunity can cause symptoms, such as fever. These symptoms are normal and are signs that the body is building immunity.

The first time a person is infected with the virus that causes COVID-19, it can take several days or weeks for their body to make and use all the germ-fighting 53

Broad classification o f Vaccines

instructions to make a protein that is unique to the virus that causes COVID19. Using these instructions, our cells make copies of the protein. This prompts our bodies to build Tlymphocytes and B-lymphocytes that will remember how to fight that virus if we are infected in the future.

Let us understand how each type of vaccine prompts our bodies to recognize and protect us from the virus that causes COVID-19. None of these vaccines can give you COVID-19. A. mRNA vaccines contain material from the virus that causes COVID-19 that gives our cells instructions for how to make a harmless protein that is unique to the virus. After our cells make copies of the protein, they destroy the genetic material from the vaccine. Our bodies recognize that the protein should not be there and build T-lymphocytes and B-lymphocytes that will remember how to fight the virus that causes COVID-19 if we are infected in the future.

Some Covid-19 vaccines need to be taken two times with a gap of 4 to 8 weeks . To be fully vaccinated, you will need two shots of some COVID-19 vaccines like covishield. Getting vaccinated is one of many steps you can take to protect yourself and others from COVID-19. Protection from COVID-19 is critically important because for some people, COVID-19 can cause severe illness or death.

B. Protein subunit vaccines include harmless pieces (proteins) of the virus that causes COVID-19 instead of the entire germ. Once vaccinated, our bodies recognize that the protein should not be there and build T-lymphocytes and antibodies that will remember how to fight the virus that causes COVID-19 if we are infected in the future.

Stopping a pandemic requires using all the tools available. Vaccines work with your immune system so your body will be ready to fight the virus if you are exposed. After you get vaccinated fully , you may be able to start doing some things that you had stopped doing because of the pandemic. But we’re still learning how vaccines will affect the spread of COVID-19. After you’ve been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, you should keep taking all precautions in public places.

C. Vector vaccines contain a modified version of a different virus than the one that causes COVID-19. Inside the shell of the modified virus, there is material from the virus that causes COVID-19. This is called a “viral vector.” Once the viral vector is inside our cells, the genetic material gives cells

Getting vaccinated against COVID-19 and following CDC’s recommendations to protect yourself will offer the best protection from COVID-19

Dr. AP J Abdul Kalam-Man of Virtues values “If a country is to be corruption free and become a nation of beautiful mind I strongly feel there are there keys societal members who can make a difference. They are the father, the mother and the teacher.”

There are some who inspired few and there are very rare who inspired an entire generation, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam was one of the very rare ones. He was a scientist, a teacher, and President of India from 2002-2007. He had touched so many lives and ignited so many young minds to believe in the power of thinking, knowledge and on top of it, self-belief. People admire him not for what he has given to Science, but also due to his unmatchable personality. There are many inspiring traits of this great leader. Here, we have summed up some of his 5 values of APJ Abdul Kalam that can help you achieve more and grow as a better person.

have courage to think differently, courage to invent, to travel the unexplored path, courage to discover the impossible and to conquer the problems and succeed. In a country like ours where lakhs of students are preparing and competing for that one seat of their dream in engineering and medical college, conviction and purpose with courage can only make that dream come true? It is your mind and thinking that makes all the difference here and not all those hours you've spent solving a paper! Make the best use of your mind, think differently and identify the techniques that sets you apart from the rest.

Life does not always follow the path we have set for it. Sometimes, it takes its own course and makes us follow it instead. We never know what's next. So, always be ready for the best and the worst. Success and Failure are the two faces of the same coin. Work hard to achieve your goal and never let yourself down.

This should top the list because everything else fails in the absence of this. Dr. Kalam always emphasized that you should never lose out on your humbleness even if you are the head of an entire nation. Modesty has, and will remain, a powerful trait because where egoism fails, humbleness conquers.

One of the major life lessons from A. P. J. Abdul is that you must be courageous enough to think differently. He said "My message, especially to young people is to

The most talented son of India, A P J Abdul Kalam was a patrician from humble beginnings who never forgot his own past, nor the grand history of his 55

country. He inspired his country in his own humble ways. When asked how he would like to be remembered, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam responded by saying, as a 'teacher'.

as an example of hard work, resilience and positive. Even after retirement Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, the people's president set himself in a demanding schedule of speeches, notably in educational institutions, and had an uncanny ability to connect with a variety of audiences. His connection with all the people in work and with the whole country are some values of APJ Abdul Kalam to be emulated. He teaches people to stay connected with everyone and spread positive thoughts. He was the one who motivated everybody in the country with his inspiring speeches. He taught the youth to take responsibility and work in the direction of development with loyalty and integrity.

Dr. Kalam had always followed the three visions for India. First vision FREEDOM. He believes that India got its first vision in year 1857, India's first war of Independence. His second vision was India's DEVELOPMENT. Dr Kalama’s Vision 2020 to transform India into 'developed' nation which focuses on five areas that need to be optimized: Infrastructure, Education and Healthcare, Information and Communication Technology, Agriculture and Food Processing; and Strategic industries like space and defence technology. And the third holy vision is that India must stand up for the world

Dr. Kalam's inspirational life itself is a great inspiration. He was not only the leader of India. He was a leader for whole world. Values of APJ Abdul Kalam, his contributions, his vision for a stronger India and his attitude towards life, are indeed inspiring.

Without a doubt, Dr. Kalam worked really hard and contributed humongous efforts for the vision of India. He lived

The beauty lies in the eye of a beholder said ST. Coleridge the romantic poet. Beauty is a word which soothes the minds of human beings. It is a word which has more than sixty synonyms in English. Today the world is after beauty where people spend considerable amount of money on it. Let us see what is beauty? How the concept of beauty changed from ages. The Greek philosopher Plato said that if symmetry and harmony were clarified it is said to be beautiful. Ancient Egyptians concentrated on the appearance of a person and Victorian age focussed on the extent of women.

that needed help. Similarly, attractive people got favourable treatment in many situations . There are a large no of individuals who feel inner beauty readable and trustworthy. Solomon the wise king did not approve external beauty. He says charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting. It is said that people can never be pretty always but everyone can be beautiful by their words deeds and actions. The way they talk, the way they do the works, the way they spread kindness are enticing. The way eagle catches its prey is an act of beauty. Even the cricketer who catches the flying ball before it reaches the gallery and the way the mother protects its babies are the acts of beauty.

What is beauty in present context? How do we decide one is attractive and the other one is not? The topic of beauty has been studied, analysed, and debated for centuries. We all know the feeling we experience when we hear a beautiful song, the joy that it brings to your heart, and when we stand in the field of flowers that excites your eyes or admires a visually pleasing face. It is obvious that human beings are attracted to beauty. Some believe that it is outer appearance and some others believe that it is something that is experienced. Experiments were conducted if beautiful people were treated better than less attractive people. The results are overwhelming. Men would stop and help pretty women in distress every time, while they walked away right by the less attractive women

John Keats a romantic poet and passionate lover of beauty sees beauty in all its forms and manifestations. The beauty is his pole star. According to him, there is beauty in nature, women's art, etc. In his poem ode to autumn he glorifies the autumn season in which he sees beauty in the dullest and dry season like autumn. In ode to Grecian urn, he adorns the beauty of art. 59

The following lines from his classical poem Endymion have become maxim.

medicine which cures our mental diseases. All lovely things of nature and the universe such as the sun, the moon, the star-lit night, waterfalls, the rivers, trees young and old, Daffodils, musk roses, and the green forest, clear rills are all things of beauty. Apart from those, all icons of the world like mahatma Gandhi Dr BR Ambedker, Nelson Mandela , Abraham Lincoln, and their accomplishments are considered as the things of beauty which continue to inspire the people across the globe. The great plays like Julius Caesar, satyaharichandra are all things of beauty and the doomsday, the day of judgment where people will stand in a queue in front of supreme God waiting for receiving their awards is also a beautiful thing that we have imagined. Great epics like Ramayan, Mahabharat, paradise lost etc are all things of beauty because they continue to entertain the people. They are just like a nectar poured unto us from the heavenly brink. They are all gifts of God as they become the source of happiness forever. Finally, Keats concluded his concept of beauty in supreme sense that a thing of beauty is nothing but truth.

“A thing of beauty is a joy forever Its loveliness increases It will never Pass into nothingness.” He said that the thing of beauty is a source of everlasting happiness. Its beauty keeps on increasing and will never be forgotten and never fadded away from our memories. The more we recollect, the more happier we feel . Keats says that a thing of beauty will provide sweet dream, health and quiet comfort to us .It is one thing that attracts and binds us towards the earth. Each beautiful experience is just like a flower with which we make a big garland. He emphasis the fact that the man and the nature are inseparable . Man can get rest, rejuvenation and recreation from nature. We the human beings pass through the valley of sufferings with despondences, ill health and over darkened ways in our lives still. we continue our lives on the earth just because some shape of beauty removes curtain of sadness from our lives and unite us with the mainstream of life. He feels that beauty has got a healing effect like any other kind of

BEAUTY IS TRUTH AND TRUTH IS BEAUTY.
