Main Problem No direct way to convert 2D CAD drawings to 3D Revit model A CAD file cannot be converted to Revit model directly. One can only link the file in the plan, elevation, section and details of a CAD file to a construction project in Revit and can use it as underlay. We can take the line as a reference for creating wall in Revit but we can’t convert a line to a wall in Revit. If you need a native Revit project, you have to rebuild your construction from the scratch. Project Workflow 1. Before you import the 2D CAD, remove any items that are unnecessary for the BIM model. 2. Decide whether to import or link the 2D file and use it to insert the 2D DWG into Revit. 3. From plugin settings, select the specified family you would create the elements with. 4. From plugin settings, define each layer name by picking it into DWG. 5. Use our plugin and start creating the architectural elements such as (walls, columns, doors and windows).

Technologies Used

About the plugin ▪ Get information from linked/imported DWG of each level by detecting the drawing border or title block. ▪ Geometry instances are read via Revit API. ▪ Create rectangular column types with any size and orientation. ▪ Create circular column types with any size and orientation. ▪ Create walls with a specified thickness. ▪ Insert openings (doors & windows) on wall surfaces. ▪ Create Scheduling to the created elements and export it to excel. ▪ From plugin settings, you can choose any family by browse button. Also you can define the layer name by picking it into the inserted CAD drawing.
