Angel Arellano is my age and has been in the newspapers and on TV. Here’s My Dollar tells how Angel learned that the zoo in Fresno was running out of money. Angel wrote to newspapers, talked at different schools, and appeared on talk shows. She asked everyone to donate a dollar to save the zoo and the animals in it. I think the author wants to tell about Angel, but he also wants to show how one person can make a difference.

This Week’s Skills Comprehension: author’s purpose Vocabulary: context clues Spelling/Phonics: words that sound alike but are spelled differently

Why Write?

I Want to Write, Because!

We can look across and down the columns to find seven words telling us why an author writes a story. We can circle them in the puzzle as we find them.

Let’s look at each picture. What would we write to go with the picture and why would we write it?

Angel Arellano gen menm laj avèk mwen epi li te parèt sou jounal ak nan televizyon. Here’s My Dollar rakonte ki jan Angel te aprann zou ki nan Fresno an te vin pa gen lajan ankò. Angel te voye lèt bay jounal yo, li te pale nan diferan lekòl, epi li te parèt nan emisyon televize. Li te mande tout moun pou yo fè don yon dola pou sove zou a ansanm ak zannimo ki ladan l. Mwen panse otè a vle pale konsènan Angel, men tou li vle montre ki jan yon moun ka fè ladiferans.

Annou gade chak foto. Ki sa nou ta va ekri pou ale avèk foto a epi poukisa nou ta va ekri l ?
