Yaba TV is a media outlet that promotes Africans and African Americans to understand and see the connection between the two backgrounds. First airing 31 years ago. I entered the scene on December 25, 1992, in Los Angeles Southern California, we currently air on Channel 9 (KCAL Los Angeles) every Sunday at 4 pm. On Sundays we air our other media platform at 6:30 am on 94.7 The Wave Radio. We highlight culture, business & entertainment. Yaba TV Since the establishment of the Yaba TV Show, the host Elizabeth Yaba who is also known as Sia-Sia, Sia-Sia has interviewed many reputable people including Councilman Bernard Parks and the former late President of Ghana, Jerry Rawlings. President Rawlings visited Los Angeles in November of 1995 and Yaba TV filmed his tour. The list also includes the late superstar Michael Jackson, the late Isaac Hayes, legendary Stevie Wonder, and a host of other celebrities who came to honor the President. A clip of these influential people can be found on the Yaba TV YouTube Channel, Yaba Media. Additional important people interviewed are the Mayor of Compton, Emma Sharif, Councilmember 8th District – City of Long Beach Al Austin, Greg Taylor – 1st Vice Commander of American Legion Chappie James Post 578, Dr. Jerry Abraham MD. Dr. Cadrin Gill MD, Attorney Kenechi Agu, Attorney Christian Oronsaye, Attorney Samuel Ogbogu, Attorney Cecilia Onunkwo, the late Tejan Kabba President of Sierra Leone, Turai Omaru YarAdua the former first Lady of Nigeria, Sia Nyama Koroma the former first Lady of Sierra Leone, Yvonne Braithwait Burke the former Los Angeles County Supervisor, the former Congresswoman Diane Watson, the former late Chief of Police, Willie Williams, the late Mr. Larry Grant, Rev. Dr. Lawrence Lasisi, Pastor Dr. Niran Fafowora, singer Shabba Ranks, T.C. Carson, and many more. Yaba TV has traveled to places like Ghana, Liberia, South Africa, and Nigeria, where we filmed/produced shows on culture and lifestyles. Elizabeth Yaba I am from the Kono tribe of Sierra Leone, West Africa and though I have been residing in California for 37 years, Ohio was my first place of residence to the U.S. I came to the United States through the sponsorship of James H. Meredith. With the protection of U.S Marshalls, he was the first black man to attend a non-black school in the state of Mississippi at the University of Mississippi. His wife, Judy, was a newscaster in Cincinnati and would take me to work with her. That exposed me to the media/entertainment industry I take pride in today. Six months later, I moved to Los Angeles and got connected with Continental Cablevision. At the time, it was the 3rd largest cable company in Los Angeles. They hired me to do an African show and asked me to give it a name, so I gave it a Kono name, the “Chesima Series”. Chesima means “this kind of a show will reveal the truth” and I wanted to tell truth about Africa. Back then, Chesima Series aired at 8pm on Fridays in South Los Angeles and the Show did very well. Continental Cablevision trained me for two years as producer and host. I also served as the Executive Producer of the Chesima Series while I produced and hosted the Show. I later changed the name from the Chesima Series to simply Yaba TV and registered my business. Even with all that I had accomplished, I did explore other fields. My immediate circle of friends were nurses, so I was interested by association. I enrolled at Long Beach City College to be an LVN. Six months into the courses, I changed my mind and decided to take the path of becoming a Drug and Alcohol Counselor. I graduated. I also attended Berkeley College for English. I am a single mother with two beautiful daughters who have made me very proud. One is a graduate of Howard University, and the other is a graduate of California State University at Long Beach. Mission Statement: Our goal is to connect Africans and African Americans by understanding and integrating the cultures. Although there are many differences between both cultures, Yaba TV brings the beauty of Africa’s culture to the beauty of African Americans culture. This is done through interviews, music videos, and visits to Africa. African children born in America can learn about Africa similarly to how African Americans can learn about African cultures. The Yaba TV Show highlights African life, culture, art, traditions, family values, morals, beliefs, investment opportunities, businesses, and special events plus exclusive grassroots footage. It is our hope that African American viewers can now begin to cultivate their ancestral roots as we present the many countries of Africa. Our long-term goal is to own a cultural resource center in the U.S and Africa for our communities to share our authentic African culture. Our resources are also aimed for small businesses and their advancement. Business owners, who we connect with, appear as guests on the Show to discuss how they serve their community through their business. Please subscribe to Yaba TV’s brand new YouTube Channel. It is free to subscribe, just click the link below and click subscribe. We can’t wait for you to find exciting shows that will welcome you to the motherland, Africa. leaders in LA County by the Los Angeles Business Journal. His business expertise prevented bankruptcy in a city that Bond Rating agencies had ceased to rate for bond worthiness as late as 2010. Subject:

SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS DURING THE PANDEMIC

My name is Ron Smothers, I am currently retired. I owned and operated 10 chains of restaurants, Burger King and Denny’s from coast to coast for 44 years. Covid-19 has brought along with it a measure of disruption of long-established business operations. Many procedures have changed such as the way we obtain our daily food, working at home, mingling with friends and family. While we are still in the grasp of this pandemic, we must understand that these conditions will end and when it ends some of the conditions it imposes on us will continue. Your job as a businessperson is to identify those conditions which might exist post pandemic and determine the impact these new conditions will have on your business. The actual post pandemic structure will not actually be new as you will have lived with this structure for several years. Let’s examine ONE change that has occurred to our economy during the pandemic. Consumers  are spending their cash at a higher rate. So fast that their demand for goods is outstripping the supply of many goods. This condition is causing prices in various sectors of our economy to rise. We call this condition “inflation.” Our government is partly responsible for this inflation because it distributed trillions of dollars to its citizens as pandemic relief. This money was quickly spent, and the spending created shortages of goods which continued to drive up prices. The one thing I’m focusing on in this article is “price increases.” Many minorities owned businesses struggle to exist largely because they don’t charge enough for their goods and services. As a result of this pandemic, I believe the public is more accepting of rising prices than in the past 15 years. So, my advice to you is to price your goods at a price that’s fair to your customers and fair to yourself. This fair market rate will allow you to pay your employees well, maintain a good stock of inventory, good maintenance of your facility, good profits etc.  At some point in the future our economy will be better balanced, and prices won’t be as elastic.  For now, I would be aggressive in my pricing.
