The 50th edition of the TIGER is respectfully dedicated to Mr. Ralph B. Tynes in recognition of his thirtyeight years of service to the Festus R-6 School system. Mr. Tynes was employed by Festus Elementary School in 1939, and in 1941 he was appointed elementary principal. In 1942, he became the high school principal and basketball coach. In 1945, Mr. Tynes was elected by the school board to be Superintendent of the Festus schools. Mr. Tynes received his Bachelor of Science in Education at Central Missouri State, Warrensburg, Missouri. He received his Masters Degree in Education at the University of Missouri, Columbia. He also did post graduate work at Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri. Mr. Tynes, a 3~ Mason KCCH, is a member of the N.E.A., A.A.S.A., M.A.S.A., Phi Delta Kappa, Missouri State Teachers Association, Chamber of Commerce, and State Board of Tubercular and Respiratory Diseases. He is a member of the Administrative Board, Trustees and Other Commissions, and chairman of the Pastor-Parish Relations Committee at the First United Methodist Church in Festus. He is also president-elect of the Rotary Club 1977-78, past president of the Southeast Missouri Teachers, and has served on the Jefferson County Board of Education. During the time that Mr. Tynes has been superintendent, all of the buildings have been added to our school system, with the exception of the Middle School, built in 1924. In 1953, the Kindergarten Building and Douglas Gymnasium were added. In 1968, the Kindergarten Building became the Central Office and Douglas Gymnasium became the Kindergarten Building. The upper portion of the Elementary was built in 1954 and the gymnasium and lower portion were added in 1956. In 1962, the Senior High building was constructed. A third addition of the Elementary was added in 1967. In 1971, the final addition came with the Junior High School building. A very special recognition was given to Mr. Tynes when, in 1963, the new high school gym was named the "Ralph B. Tynes Gymnasium 11 • This followed a concentrated movement by the many friends of the competant and well-loved superintendent. Throughout Jefferson County and the rest of Missouri, his name has become synonymous with good school management, and his name will become a legend to future students who will attend the R-6 schools. When in the future, the choirs, the bands, the speakers, the actors, the teams, and all the spectors gather in the gymnasium, they will surely feel the spirit of the man who helped make it all possible, Ralph B. Tynes. 3

1976-1977 TIGER STAFF ROW ONE; Genie Weise, Mary Ann Matkin, Pam Bange, and Cheryl Noce. ROW TWO: Kelly Hobbs, Mary Walsh, Connie Gibbs, Susie Mains, June Beakley, and Mrs. Joyce Swift, Adviser.
Over C:lte Vears The 1977 TIGER is proud to announce that this is its 50th edition. The first edition of the yearbook, the PIPER, was published in 1927 . Our old high school, called the Eugene Field School, was located on the comer of Second and Walnut Streets in Festus. This school burned in approximately 1924, forcing the students to move to their new home located at 711 W. Main, presently known as the Middle School. The high school remained in this building until 1962, when it moved into its present location, at 501 Westwind Drive.

MISS MARCIA MASON, B.S., Iowa MRS. WILLA MCCULLOUGH, M. State University, Algebra I and II, Ed., Boston University, Advanced and Consumer Math. Typing, Secretarial and Clerical Practice. At the end of this school year, we must say ''Farewell" both in English and in Spanish, to a well-loved veteran teacher who has taught for thirty-three years in the Festus high school. Sarah Manley has become a legend. A very capable, competent, and dedicated teacher who has earned the love and respect of all her students throughout her teaching career, she will leave a definite void in our high school. Mrs. Manley helped form the first student council at Festus senior high school. She was Chairman of the Philosophy and Objectives Committee, Chairman of the English Department, and a member of the Curriculum Committee and the Foreign Language Committee. In 1957-59, Mrs. Manley helped write a Guide For Language Arts For Grades 10-11-12 for the state of Missouri. She also helped write the Activity Guide For Career Education for Festus R-6 schools in the summer of 1974. Mrs. Manley was president of the Missouri English Teachers in 1958, and was on the Steering Committee for the North Central Association in 1975. After all her valuable service and contributions to our school and to education, we are saddened to see her retire, but in all sincerity we say to Mrs. Manley, ''Farewell, Adios, and Good Luck".
After 36 years of teaching, 31 of which were in our school system, Mr. Warren Elkins will retire. He came here in 1946 after teaching approximately five years in Advance and Bismark, Missouri. In 1946 he taught the 8th grade for one year. Then in 1947 he came to the senior high and taught social studies. Mr. Elkins has a B. S. Debree from Southeast Missouri State University, and in 1956 he received his M . E. D. Degree from the University of Missouri. In 1952 the Driver's Education program was begun and he has taught it since then. He is a member of MSTA, CTA, Missouri Driver and Safety Education Association, the First United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday school for a number of years, Masonic Lodge, and is a part member of NEA. During his years here, Mr. Elkins has had a very outstanding attendance record, and has only missed one Junior- Senior Prom. Students and faculty in the system will always remember him for the years of outstanding and devoted teaching, Mr. Warren Elkins has given to us.

Festus High, our Alma Mater, Pleasant memories ne'er forgot, Heaven and earth thy sons and daughters, Will thy blessing be . And ere the setting sun shall vanish All thy glory is thy lot, Love and loyalty forever Is our pledge to thee.
