As we begin the celebration of this Holy Week, we are reminded of the promise we have received as we journey through the week of death and new life through our upcoming celebrations. Please take time to join us this week in this important moments of prayer reminding us of the presence and the gift of life we receive in the depth of God’s eternal love.

This most Holy Week is an invitation to a deeper awareness of the mercy we receive freely from God through His presence with us through Christ. May this presence fill us with hope and remind us of the challenge we have to live as followers of this mercy and love with one another.

Upcoming events for IHM Religious Education Program

First Communion Candidate & Parent Retreat: On Tuesday, March 22nd, all of our students who will make First Communion this May, along with their parents, need to attend a required retreat. We will meet in the school gym at 7:00 p.m. We hope to be finished by 8:30 p.m.  All of our Confirmation Candidates will perform the Stations of the Cross on Good Friday, March 25th. The English performance will be at 3:00 p.m., and the Spanish will be at 7:30 p.m. Each station is narrated and acted; there will be reflections, music, and prayers. Please plan to join us.  We will have the retreat for all of our Confirmation Candidates, Sponsors and their Parents on Tuesday, March 29th, at 7:00 p.m. in the school gym. Once again this year, we will be making the Seven Churches Pilgrimage as a parish on Holy Thursday, March 24. We will rent a bus and after the 7:00 p.m. Mass, we will journey to area churches to pray before the Blessed Sacrament and “stay with” Jesus a while. Please join us for this sacred experience. The fee for the trip is $10 to cover the cost of the bus. If you would like to join us, please call Daniel Maul at the rectory and reserve yourself a spot, at 773-478-1157, ext. 113.

JUEVES SANTO La Misa vespertina de la Cena del Señor debe celebrarse a la hora más apropiada de la tarde. El lavatorio de los pies o mandatum es la norma que deben observar todas las parroquias. El personal pastoral parroquial debe hacer todo lo posible en llevar a cabo este mandatum con reverencia y dignidad. Asimismo, se deben evitar otros ritos o declaraciones de compromiso, los cuales son inapropiados en la liturgia del Jueves Santo.

La colecta de éste día es dedicada a todas las obras pastorales, caritativas, educacionales y trabajo social que la Iglesia apoya en la Tierra Santa para beneficio de los cristianos y comunidades locales, así como para el mantenimiento de los lugares sagrados. Esta colecta puede hacerse por medio de canastos colocados en las entradas del templo, ya que en la liturgia no hay un momento designado para la colecta. Lo recaudado debe ser enviado a la Oficina de Finanzas de la Arquidiócesis.
