Please note that this year all the bulls have been given a vaccination program that meets the requirements for the Immune Ready Guidelines. This means that the bulls have been vaccinated for Clostridial, Leptospirosis, Pestivirus, Vibrio and IBR. If you'd like more information on this, please ask us and we can explain the program in more detail. On a family front, 2022 has been an exciting year with Cooper completing his SACE and finishing school. As soon as his last assignment was handed in Cooper was straight on the header, helping with our harvest. He will probably spend a year with us before heading to Canada for a bit. Harry continues to love spending time in the cattle yards. He thinks he knows our cow pedigrees better than me but I've got him covered! Harry's still on his quest to win Grand Champion Steer at Adelaide (and knock someone off!!) He's off to school in Adelaide this year and will be missed in the yards but we are sure he will make up for lost time in school holidays. And not to forget our 10 year old going on 20- Archie or affectionately known as "Dusty" Archie by his footy team mates and supporters. Archie has really enjoyed experiencing the SA Junior Heifer Show in Adelaide and has loved making friends from across the state who also have a passion for cattle and farming. While Amanda and I feel we are in a real purple patch at the moment, with the 3 boys all interested, passionate and hands on in our farming family operation. We just love working with all our fantastic clients and being able to offer advise and help whenever they need. I would like to thank everyone who helps and works with us throughout the year, especially all the businesses that support us. Whether you bought, were the underbidder, cooked the BBQ, drove a truck, pushed the bulls up, supported clients or just came for a look, your ongoing support for what we do is great appreciated. What an amazing year 2022 has been with just about a perfect break to the season for us in March. It never dried up until the start of December with huge amounts of feed on offer for our cattle and been lucky enough to put a heap of forage away for years to come. Cutting lucerne for the 3rd time in one paddock in mid December is certainly something we have never had to juggle before with our grain harvest. While we have been extremely fortunate, we feel for those impacted Australia wide with flooding. It's certainly is a sight to see so much water across the country. 2022 was also a special year for the stud as we celebrated 25 years breeding stud Angus cattle. We were honoured to received recognition of this great achievement at the Royal Adelaide Show, where we were presented with a token of appreciation. When we started in 1997, we never envisaged that we would be celebrating this milestone. This years line up of sale bulls offer a few new genetics both to our herd and in the SA region. We are very excited to be offering the oldest bulls in Australia sired by Dunoon Prime Minister, Murdeduke Quarterback and Montana Elevation. Prime Minister we tried to purchase with no success, with him going on to sell for $140,000 which was the top priced Angus bull to sell Australia wide that year. 7 days later we were AIing cows to Prime Minister at home with the help from Jono Spence and one of Ashley Hills cattle crates to get the semen to us. We were also on the front foot with Murdeduke Quarterback and Montana Elevation. All of these bulls have bred very well for us, where we used them specifically over lines of females. In particular the Prime Minister females are amazing!! Sale information Inspection All bulls will be available for inspection; ~from 1:30pm on sale day ~SA Beef Week 7th Feb '23 9am to 5pm at The Basin Sale Complex, Willalooka ~Any time by arrangement on property at Pinnaroo. Video of all sale lots will be available on AuctionsPlus or on our website by Mid January '23. Directions Turn off Riddoch Hwy onto Petherick Rd (at the Willalooka store). Travel West for 3km along Petherick Rd. The Basin Sale complex is on the left. Look for the flags and signs! Health This year all bulls have had the following; ~Vetmec Backline ~Pestigard (2 doses) ~Vibrovax (2 doses) ~7 in 1 ~Rhinoguard (1dose) The above vaccination program means you can be assured that all sale bulls meet the Immune Ready Guidelines. Booster vaccinations of Pestigard, 7 in 1 and Vibrovax are due May-September '23. All bulls have tested FREE to Pestivirus. All bulls are DNA tested or pedigree free for AM, NH, CA and DD. Fertility As with any species, fertility can be a problem. This is why we semen test ALL sale bulls. Bulls are examined by Nationwide Artificial Breeders for erection abnormalities and satisfactory sperm count specifications. The visual test includes penile warts, hair rings, injuries and penile frenulums by undergoing a physical examination of external genitalia and conformation. The crush side semen test involves qualified analysis of spermatozoa for motility, concentration, morphology and semen vesiculitis. This information provides testicular and epididymal function which helps predict the potential fertility of the bull. Only bulls that pass this strict testing regime are certified and make the sale list. Management The bulls have been handled on an ATV bike, ute and on foot with working dogs. This year the bulls have also been handled by Peter Barr and his working dogs. We know each bulls temperament and are confident that under normal conditions, each bull is of sound temperament. Understandably on sale day a bull could misbehave due to changes in the yard area and the pressure of new people invading their space. Please note NO ANIMAL HAS HAD ITS FEET TRIMMED. These bulls have been prepared for a working life not a sale day. Semen Collection Each bull is being sold with 100% possession, marketing and ownership. Bull Oak Well reserves the right to collect semen in any bull for our inherd use only. All associated costs with the collection will be at Bull Oak Well's expense and at a time suitable to the purchaser. Bull Handling It is important that upon arrival at their new home, bulls are yarded with a suitable group of animals to minimise stress. Suitable animals are steers and pregnant cows. We strongly discourage putting new bulls with other bulls that are on the property. Guarantee In the event of a bull proving to be infertile or incapable of natural service in the 6 months from the sale, we will offer a full credit of the purchase price (less salvage price) to be used towards a future bull purchase from us, provided the problem is not a result of injury or disease contracted since taking delivery. Claims must be accomplanied by a Veterinary Certificate. The vendor retains the right to obtain an independent veterinary confirmation of any claim. Insurance Selling agents will be available on sale day to organise all insurance requirements. We strongly recommend all bulls be insured for their first working 12 months, at the fall of the hammer. Delivery Delivery of all bulls will be coordinated after the sale. Bulls are delivered free within 200kms of the Basin or 200km from 'Bull Oak Well'. Bull Pens Visitors enter the cattle pens at their own risk. Children must NOT enter pens. Please refrain from wearing high vis clothing to the bull sale.
