Progressive Pathway - Sailing Department Loyalty Program Updated

To ensure our athletes and recreational sailors can progress through the CANSail programming without gaps, we offer early access to program registration for returning sailors. Early registration is open to all returning sailors from 10am - 4pm on February 8th with the following restrictions: 1. 2023 early registration is open to all sailors who participated in a program in the 2022 season. If your child did not participate in 2022, they are not eligible. 2. Early registration for sibling not previously in sailing program is not available in 2023. 3. Restrictions only apply to early registrations. There is no limit on the total number of weeks a member can register for, only their early registrations. Returning sailors are welcome to register for more programs when they open to the general membership at 6pm on February 8th. 4. WetFeet - early registration is limited to 2 weeks (per child) of the WetFeet program. 5. Junior Sailing, Opti 1 and Opti 2 - early registration is limited to 2 sessions (per child) of any combination of these three programs. 6. If your child is 8 and you are planning to sail a combination of WetFeet and Junior, you are permitted to register early for 2 weeks of WetFeet and 1 session of Junior. 7. Opti 3 & 420 Fleet - there are no early registration restrictions for these classes. You may register for as many as you would like, whenever you choose.

REGISTRATION 2023

Only online program registration will be available for the 2023 season. The online system is quick and easy to use if you get yourself prepared by following the tips below: Ask Your Questions ahead of Time – Katelyn is here year-round to help answer any questions you may have about sailing or the registration process ([email protected]). During our active registration period, phones are reserved for those experiencing difficulties with registration so ask your questions early! Update Profile – It is important that your children are active in the system and that their Waeg account is showing the correct birthday and parent contact information. If the birthday is incorrect, the system may block you from registering for a program. If your information is not updated, the system will prompt you to add it during the registration process. This will not slow you down too much, but we know how stressful it can feel! Add a Credit Card – Like your contact information, having a credit card saved on file saves you an extra step during the registration process. Test Your Account – This is the best way to determine your eligibility for early sailing registration as well as ensuring your children’s accounts are active and functional. If you are new to the registration system, it is also a great way to learn how to navigate the system (not available till february 1st).

Learn to Sail at the Waeg The Waegwoltic Club works closely with our partners at Sail Nova Scotia to offer quality sailing programs following the guidelines of the CANSail program. The CANSail Program is Sail Canada’s national training program for sailing in dinghies. The program is made up of core standards that promote progressive training of core dinghy sailing skills and knowledge. CANSail programming means lots of time on the water in a safe, fun and active learning environment. Sailors learn the skills and enter into fun and challenging experiences suited to their age and stage of development. The programming is designed to get – and keep – sailors excited about sailing for life!

INTRODUCTORY CURRICULUM WetFeet Module & ICANSail – Basic concepts are introduced and tried by first time participants as part of an opportunity to get out on the water and experience sailing. CANSail 1 – Introduction to sailing. CANSail 1 teaches sailors the fundamental sailing skills including basic sheeting, steering, and boat handling on all points of sail. Sailors can sail within defined boundaries set by an instructor CANSail 2 – Basic sailing. CANSail 2 teaches sailors to adjust their bodies and boats for changes in direction and wind speed while sailing, and to perform boat-handling maneuvers in a controlled manner while in a controlled setting. INTERMEDIATE CURRICULUM CANSail 3 – Intermediate sailing. CANSail 3 teaches sailors to integrate the fundamental boat handling maneuvers and balance with basic tactics and strategy as well as applied sail trim. Sailors are exposed to a greater variety of conditions and participate in a club race or club training camp. CANSail 4 – Advanced sailing. CANSail 4 teaches sailors to perform advanced boat handling maneuvers in a variety of conditions. Sailors can successfully execute maneuvers in competitive settings and for tactical and strategic purposes. Sailors participate in a one to two-day local regatta. CANSail levels will be accredited where appropriate

Accessibility & Inclusion!

The Waegwoltic Club strives to develop programming that is accessible and inclusive for our diverse membership. Our sailing staff is dedicated to providing an equitable experience for all of our sailors wherever possible. We acknowledge barriers and aim to eliminate them using a person-centred three-step approach: 1) Communicating with families regarding any barriers; 2) Examining the social and environmental barriers that might hinder participation; and 3) Establishing strategies for eliminating barriers to ensure maximum participation where possible

Lunch Plan

Waeg Camp offers a Lunch Plan program at a charge of $50 / week. You can register for this service through your online account. WetFeet Full Day Adventure Camp (6-8)

The WetFeet Program is a specialized summer camp program for children ages 6 to 8 years old with little or no sailing experience! All you need is a life jacket! This one week camp follows CanSail’s WetFeet Module as well as ICANSail. When we aren’t on the water, we are taking in the best that the Waeg has to offer, with afternoon dips in the Lido, trips to the Dingle and, of course, participating in all the famed Waeg-wide recreation events such as the Great Water Fight and Sail & Bail. The program builds friendships, confidence, and self-esteem! * No two 8 year olds are the same, it all depends on their comfort level! If you have an 8 year old who is interested in sailing, but has not yet been in a boat (sail or pleasure craft) we recommend that they do at least 1 week of Wet Feet before entering Junior Sailing. But if they’re ready to go, and comfortable around the water, then you can send them straight to the Junior program.

Although based out of the Waegwoltic, the team will train in Bedford, St. Margarets Bay and Chester. Off Site Training: Participants on the Race Teams, who wish to attend regattas will be required to attend training at off-site locations (Bedford, St. Margarets Bay, Chester, P.E.I., etc), where they will need to be dropped off and picked up by parents, when applicable. This is a necessary aspect of the program, and one that is usually the highlight of the sailor’s summer. To make this happen, parental support and involvement is necessary. Any sailing participant in our race program who wishes to attend regattas throughout the sailing season is also required to pay a regatta fee for each regatta they attend. This fee helps to cover the cost of staffing and transportation for these regattas. This fee does not include the regatta registration fee which is paid to the hosting club.
