Harper College is home to a vibrant art scene with original works and wellattended performance venues — virtual and live. This area of interest employs working professionals as faculty who maintain relationships with creatives active in their field — providing you opportunities to observe and interact with different artists in a variety of media. As a Harper student, you’ll have many hands-on courses designed for you to ultimately support yourself. You will gain the knowledge needed to be ready to begin a career, advance your skills or prepare to transfer to a four-year degree program.

The Associate in Arts (A.A.) and the Fine Arts (A.F.A.) degrees outlined in this brochure are transfer options.

From skyscrapers and office buildings, to transport hubs and residential homes, each structure used by humans was carefully designed by an architect. This creative industry employs over one million people across the country. Because every state requires architects to be licensed; a two-year degree or certificate will propel you closer to a career in the field. The Associate in Arts (A.A.) degree prepares you to transfer to a four-year college or university to complete your bachelor’s degree in architectural studies or a related major. Harper offers an Architectural CAD Certificate ideal for beginning students just entering the architecture field or for professionals looking to develop skills in the area of CAD drafting. This certificate prepares you for entry-level employment to become a CAD drafter, CAD operator or architectural drafter. Credits earned in this program can be applied to the A.A.S. Interior Design degree.



The Associate in Art (A.A.) or Associate in Fine Arts (A.F.A.) degree at Harper College prepares you to transfer to a fouryear college or university for further study to complete a bachelors’ degree in art or a related major.

„ AUDIO/VIDEO ARTS TECHNOLOGY CERTIFICATE Learn new production skills in this growing field. Many with audio/video technology credentials have high-profile jobs in occupational areas such as music, film, podcasting, marketing, animation, fashion, news, theatre, corporate A/V and more. The Audio/Video Arts Technology Certificate is an eclectic and collaborative program between the Music and Communication Arts departments. Through hands-on experience with digital and analog equipment, software as well as unique, comprehensive course work, students will learn theoretical and technical skills to pursue careers in audio engineering, live sound reinforcement, audio tech, A/V and video production. You will have the opportunity to produce impressive portfolio projects by working in Harper’s state-of-the-art Mass Communication Lab.

„ FASHION DESIGN DEGREE (WITH TWO SPECIALIZATIONS) Explore the exciting world of fashion design. Harper College offers courses in garment design, pattern making, textiles and more. Working alongside expert instructors, you will gain real-world skills within a facility that simulates the professional atmosphere of the fashion industry. Harper’s Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree is designed to prepare you for entry-level employment or advancement in your field. ƒ The Fashion Entrepreneurship degree is designed to prepare you to build an independent brand or launch a fashion related business. The curriculum emphasis is on apparel textile design, flat pattern design, fashion illustration, professional design room practices and entrepreneurship. Here you will develop basic patterns using computer-aided design, gain knowledge on resources in color, silhouette, fabrics, promotion, sourcing and more.

Fashion isn’t only about designing clothes. The business side of the industry can often be overlooked. Trend analyzation, promotion and apparel quality assessment are just a few things that make up the many aspects of responsibilities in the field. Fashion merchandisers work in a variety of environments including wholesale manufacturing, apparel companies, retailers, theater companies, dance organizations and design firms to name a few. Harper’s Fashion Merchandising program offers you an overview of all phases of fashion merchandising. Courses include fashion history, fashion forecasting, textiles, business math along with hands-on, creative learning experiences with the annual Student Fashion Show and student-run boutique, Studio V.
