questes 10 excursions que us presentam pretenen acostar el nostre territori tant als residents com als visitants. Haurien de ser vies d’entrada a un espai molt desconegut amb les quals tothom que es decideixi a deixar-se menar pugui descobrir paratges abans inimaginats, camins singulars, racons solitaris, vistes panoràmiques d’una gran bellesa. Tanmateix també voldríem que aquest convit a gaudir d’aquests espais s’interpretàs correctament; la natura a Mallorca en general és fràgil i per mor d’aquesta fragilitat és que nosaltres hem de tenir molt d’esment a no intervenir-hi. L’hem de viure, emperò no podem actuar en contra. El terme d’Alcúdia té un territori molt divers: hi ha zones d’hort, zones de secà, zones humides, la muntanya; i tot plegat amb la mar de teló de fons. Per mostrar-vos tot això hem cercat que aquest llibret fos útil. Que vosaltres mateixos sigueu els guies amb l’ajuda del text i els mapes. Aquestes excursions es poden fer qualsevol època de l’any; tenim un clima sense estridències llevat que considerem que ho és el sol de l’estiu. De totes maneres no volem acabar sense recomanarvos que les faceu per la primavera, l’estació de l’any en què la natura manifesta el seu esclat i una multiplicitat de tons diferents.

hese 10 excursions are intended to bring our region closer to our residents and visitors alike. For anyone who follows these routes, they will discover an area of unimaginable landscapes, unusual pathways, solitary spots and panoramic views of great beauty. Nevertheless, we should like a correct interpretation to be given to this invitation to enjoy these areas; in general, the nature of Majorca is fragile and it is because of that fragility that we must take great care not to disturb it. We must contemplate it, but we must not spoil it. The district of Alcúdia is very varied region: there are cultivated areas, arid zones, humid zones, mountains; all combined against the backdrop of the sea. To show you all this we have tried to ensure that this book is useful. That you yourselves follow the routes with the help of the text and the maps. These excursions can be taken at any time of the year; our climate has no extremes unless we consider the sun in the summer as one. In any case, we should not end without recommending that you go on the excursions in the spring, the season of the year when nature reveals its full radiance and range of different colours.

ALCÚDIA ERMITA DE LA VICTÒRIA

La primera excursió que us oferim pretén mostrar-vos l’Àrea Natural del Cap del Pinar, actualment ja preservada per la Llei d’espais naturals de les Illes Balears. L’excursió comença a Alcúdia. Sortim pel camí del Mal Pas, un parell de quilómetres més envant trobam el nucli urbà del Mal Pas - Bonaire, hem d’anar a trobar la mar al port esportiu, continuam per la carretera que va devora la mar ja dins Bonaire. Quan sortim pel camí de la Victòria tot d’una passam el torrent de les Fontanelles i a peu 5 minuts més envant l’Illot (hi ha un bar i banys). La carretera s’enfila per amunt, molt poc temps després deixam a l’esquerra la desviació al cap del Pinar, continuam pujant fins que arribam a l’ermita de la Victòria. Ermita de la Victòria - Penya del Migdia A partir d’aquí es recomana continuar a peu. Agafam un camí de carro que puja i no el deixam fins que després d’un revolt bastant sec (15 minuts) a l’esquerra surt un caminoi molt interessant, que va planejant per un coster que té la mar a una banda i les parets de la muntanya a l’altra, i que ens menarà 3 km més enllà al peu de la penya del Migdia (25 minuts); des d’aquí el camí puja fins a dalt de tot de la penya i es fa amb 15 minuts més; des d’aquí dalt hi ha una bona vista de la badia de Pollença i del cap de Formentor i un dia clar es pot veure Menorca. Ermita de la Victòria - la Talaia Si volem anar a la Talaia hem de fer el camí de carro que surt de l’ermita fins al final. Aquest camí pega al pla de la Talaia davall un gran penyal, d’aquí surt un caminoi que fent unes llaçades puja a un replà ja quasi a dalt de tot. D’aquest replà a l’esquerra encara veureu que surt una branca que davalla i va cap al puig del Boc i al coll Baix. Continuam 5 minuts més per amunt i arribam a la Talaia d’Alcúdia. Hi ha una caseta per a cobri.

The purpose of the first excursion we offer is to show you the Natural Area of Cap del Pinar, at present under the protection of the Law on Natural Spaces of the Balearic Islands. The excursion starts in Alcúdia. We leave by the Mal Pas road and a couple of kilometres farther on we come to the Mal Pas - Bonaire urban centre. We must carry on until reaching the sea and the marina and then continue along the coast road into Bonaire. Immediatly after leaving Camí de la Victòria we pass Les Fontanelles river and 5 minutes farther on l’Illot (there is a bar here and washrooms). As the road winds upwards, we very soon pass the turning to Cap del Pinar to the left and we continue climbing until we reach l’Ermita de la Victòria. Ermita de la Victòria - Penya del Migdia. It is recommended to go on foot from now on. We take a cart track going upwards and do not leave it until after a rather sharp bend (15 minutes). To the left there is a very interesting track that goes along a steep slope with the sea on one side and the side of the mountain on the other, and 3 km farther on we arrive at the foot of the Penya del Migdia (25 minutes); from then on the path climbs to the top of the Penya which takes 15 minutes more; there is a beautiful view of Pollença Bay and Cap de Formentor from the top and on a clear day it is possible to see Minorca. Ermita de la Victòria - Talaia d’Alcúdia If we want to go to the Talaia we must leave the hermitage and walk to the end of the cart track. This path keeps to the Pla de la Talaia under a wall of rock and, from here, a twisting track emerges and rises to a flat area almost at the very top. To the left of this flat area you will see a path branching out that goes down until it comes to Puig del Boc and Coll Baix. We continue upwards for 5 minutes more and arrive at the Talaia d’Alcúdia. There is a small shelter here for protection from the elements.

PARC NATURAL DE L’ALBUFERA

El Parc Natural de l’Albufera és la zona humida més important de les Illes Balears, i compta amb dues declaracions conservacionistes d’àmbit internacional molt importants: l’any 1987 va ser declarada ZONA D’ESPECIAL PROTECCIÓ PER A LES AUS (ZEPA) I PRAT D’IMPORTÀNCIA INTERNACIONAL PEL CONVENI DE RAMSAR. Aquesta excursió tant la podem començar d’Alcúdia com de qualsevol part del Port d’Alcúdia. Si partim d’Alcúdia hem d’agafar la carretera que surt de devora l’església i va cap a Artà, passant pel poliesportiu. A 4 km d’Alcúdia arribam al pont dels Anglesos, i damunt el pont mateix a la dreta hi ha l’entrada al parc. El parc és gratuït; tanmateix la primera cosa que s’ha de fer és anar a la recepció del parc a inscriure’s com a visitant, la trobareu a 1 km de l’entrada del parc. Aquí us donaran informació sobre què és i què podeu trobar i sobre les normes que cal respectar per visitarlo. Una d’aquestes normes important és que no hi podeu anar amb animals. En la recepció mateix hi trobareu informació pràctica de com el podeu visitar, de la flora i la fauna del parc. Actualment hi ha quatre itineraris marcats que es poden seguir, tant a peu com amb bicicleta, amb una sèrie de punts d’interès. Una altra gran opció és aprofitar els 12 aguaits i les plataformes que hi ha per a l’observació ornitològica. S’han inventariat més de dues-centes espècies d’ocells. El parc ofereix un servei de lloguer de binocles, a més d’informació escrita sobre el parc: hi ha una Guia de Passeig editada en català, espanyol, anglès i alemany. L’horari d’hivern és de 9 a 17 (de 1 d’octubre fins dia 31 de març) i el d’estiu de 9 a 18 (de 1 d’abril a 30 de setembre).

The nature reserve, Parc Natural de l’Albufera, is the most important humid zone in the Balearic Islands and has two very important international conservation titles: in the year 1987 it was declared a SPECIAL PROTECTED AREA FOR BIRDS (ZEPA) AND AN AREA OF INTERNATIONAL IMPORTANCE BY THE RAMSAR CONVENTION. We can start this excursion in Alcúdia or from any part of Port d’Alcúdia. If we leave from Alcúdia we must take the road next to the church which goes to Artà and passes by the sports stadium. 4 km from Alcúdia we arrive at the Pont dels Anglesos, and on the bridge itself there is the entrace to the reserve on the right. There is no entry free; however, the first thing to be done is to go to the reception and register as a visitor. The reception is 1 km from the entrance to the reserve. Here you will be given information about the reserve and what you can see and on the regulations to be obeyed during your visit. An important regulation is that you cannot take any animals with you. In the same reception office you will also find practical information on the way to visit the reserve and on its flora and fauna. At present there are four marked itineraries, with several points of interest, which you can follow either on foot or by bike. Another interesting option is to take advantage of the 12 hides there for bird watching. More than two hundred species of birds have been classified. There is a binocular hire service in the reserve, as well as written information on the reserve: there is also a guide, (the Guia de Passeig) published in Catalan, Spanish, English and Deutsch. The opening hours in winter are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (from 1st October until 31st March) and in summer from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. (from 1st April to 30th September).

CIUTAT ROMANA DE POL·LÈNTIA ORATORI DE SANTA ANNA

Una de les excursions més singulars que us podem oferir és la visita de les restes de la ciutat romana de Pol·lèntia, devora les murades medievals d’Alcúdia. Aquesta ciutat, fundada al voltant del 70 aC, constitueix un punt de referència obligat per conèixer el procés de romanització de les Illes Balears. Sobre aquesta ciutat actualment hi ha dos punts d’interès, la ciutat romana i el Museu Monogràfic. La ciutat romana té l’entrada davant l’església de Sant Jaume d’Alcúdia, i el Museu al carrer de Sant Jaume, 30, a l’altre costat de l’església. Es pot accedir als dos llocs amb un sol tiquet a un preu molt assequible. Ciutat romana de Pol·lèntia. Es pot fer un itinerari a partir de l’entrada d’accés, que s’inicia a la Portella, que és un barri residencial situat al nordoest de la ciutat que conté restes de tres domus. La Casa dels Dos Tresors, just a l’altre costat de carrer la casa del Cap de Bronze, dins la qual hi trobaren el cap de bronze que s’exposa al Museu Monogràfic de Pol·lèntia i la casa Nord-oest. Continua a l’àrea central de la ciutat amb les restes del Fòrum, la plaça de la ciutat. Hi podem ubicar les restes del Temple Capitolí, d’època republicana, una ampla zona de Tabernae, el recinte fortificat, d’època tardana a més d’una extensa necròpoli als nivells més superficials. L’estudi del Fòrum ha permès per una banda establir una cronologia per a la fundació de Pol·lèntia a la dècada dels 70-60 aC i per l’altra plantejar una hipòtesi sobre el seu planejament urbà. I acaba amb el Teatre Romà datat al segle I dC, construït als afores de la ciutat, molt a prop d’aquí on els experts situen el port de l’antiga ciutat romana, amb la càvea excavada a la roca, l’orquestra i els fonaments de l’escena completa el conjunt arqueològic. En època tardoromana va utilitzar-se com a necròpoli, de la qual encara es poden veure els enterrament de forma trapezoïdal excavats a la càvea i a l’escena. Museu Monogràfic de Pol·lèntia. Situat a un edifici municipal que forma part del conjunt monumental del centre històric, l’antic Hospital del segle XIV, s’hi exposen diversos materials recuperats durant les campanyes d’excavació, ceràmiques, joies, escultures, objectes decoratius, etc. La mostra presenta la vida a una ciutat romana des de la doble vesant pública i privada. D’altra banda fora de la ciutat romana, però ben al costat, podeu visitar un dels pocs exemples d’església del primer repoblament català del segle XIII existents a Mallorca, Santa Anna. Per arribar-hi, quan sortiu de Pol·lèntia heu de prendre a l’esquerra i heu de caminar uns centenars de metres, l’entrada d’aquesta església està davant l’entrada del cementeri.

A visit to the ruins of the Roman town of Pollentia, next to the mediaeval walls of Alcúdia old town, is one of the most fascinating excursions that Alcúdia has to offer you. The town, founded in 70 B.C., is an essential point of reference for getting to know about the process of Romanisation that occurred in the Balearic Islands. There are in fact two centres of interest, the Roman town itself and also the monographic museum dedicated to the archaeology of the Roman site. To either side of the church, Sant Jaume, are the entrances to the Roman town and the museum; the Roman town’s across the main road and opposite the church and the museum’s in the street that bears the church’s name, i.e. Sant Jaume. Pol·lèntia Roman Town. Your itinerary in the ruins takes you initially to “la Portella” that was a residential area in the north-west of the Roman town. Here you can see the remains of three dwellings. From here, you head to the “Casa dels Dos Tresors” (house of the two treasures), right by the side of a street, that of the house of the “Cap de Bronze”, in which the bronze head that is now exhibited in the museum was discovered. Next on the tour are the “Casa Nord-oest” (northwest house) and the Roman town’s square, the Forum, with remains of the temple to Jupiter, dating from the Republican era, and a large area of taverns and fortifications from a later era, together with an extensive burial ground. Study of the Forum has enabled the chronology of the founding of Pollentia to be traced to 70-60 B.C. and has also given rise to a hypothesis regarding the town’s urban planning. From the Forum you move on to the Roman Theatre with its semi-circular auditorium, orchestra and stage. Dating from the first century A.D. and built on what were the outskirts of the town, the theatre is close to what is believed to be the old port. It was also used as a necropolis burial site in the later Roman age, evidence of which is in the form of trapezoidal excavations in the auditorium and on the stage. Monographic Museum of Pol·lèntia. Sited in a municipal building that forms part of what was the old, fourteenth-century hospital in the historic centre of Alcúdia, the museum’s diverse exhibits, recovered during excavations, include ceramics, jewels, sculptures and decorations. The museum shows both public and personal life in a Roman town. On the other side of the Roman town and right next to it, you can visit one of the few examples of a church from the first Catalan population of the thirteenth century that exists in Mallorca. Called Santa Anna, in order to get to it, when you leave the Pollentia site, you turn left and walk a few hundred metres to the church which is opposite the entrance to the cemetery.

NUCLI ANTIC D’ALCÚDIA

Ja hem dedicat una excursió a la història d’Alcúdia: la de l’Alcúdia romana. Aquesta excursió d’ara, que s’ha de fer a peu, consisteix a visitar la part vella de la ciutat actual. La ciutat moderna s’ha anat formant a partir de la conquesta catalana de l’any 1229. Molt prest ja hi va haver parròquia, i en temps de Jaume II de Mallorca ja es començaren a edificar les murades. Es pot aprofitar els dimarts i diumenges si a més es vol visitar el mercat. Aquest excursió la pot fer cadascú seguint l’itinerari que més li agradi, amb tot no volem deixar d’assenyalar alguns llocs que tenen un interès especial. Molt recomanable és fer una volta seguint el camí de Ronda, que és el carrer interior del cordó de murades, i observar les dues magnífiques portes que encara romanen: la Porta del Moll o de Xara, i la Porta de Sant Sebastià, també anomenada de Mallorca. Un edifici molt important és l’església parroquial de Sant Jaume, amb unes característiques monumentals que no tenen altres edificis. Un altre destacable és Can Torró, actualment ocupat per la biblioteca del mateix nom. Té un doble aspecte a considerar un palau del segle XIV molt ben restaurat que serveix de marc a la biblioteca més moderna de les illes Balears. Aquest casal està al carrer d’en Serra, ben veïnat hi ha un edifici molt antic, Can Fondo. Altres casals que només es poden veure de defora són Can Domenec (a la façana d’aquest casal hi ha l’escut de la Corona d’aragó, que estava a la Porta de Mallorca), Can Calvó al carrer dels Albellons, i Can Canta al carrer Major. Al carrer Major també hi ha l’Ajuntament que és del segle XX. Amb tot quant s’ha dit no s’ha exhaurit l’interès del nucli antic perquè aquest es troba una mica escampat amb moltes cases tan antigues com les que s’han dit, encara que no tan grosses, que comforma tot plegat uns espais diferents amb un to uniforme: són els mateixos elements arquitectònics, els mateixos materials de construcció, el mateix aspecte dels carrers. Vós que parlau la llengua del país, el català, no deixeu de fixar-vos en els noms dels carrers, en els quals hi ha concentrada l’autèntica història d’Alcúdia.

We have already dedicated an excursion to the history of Alcúdia: the Roman Alcúdia. This present excursion has to be done on foot and comprises a visit to the old part of the presentday town. The modern town has gradually been forming since the Catalan conquest in the year 1229. The parish was very quickly established and in the times of Jaume II of Majorca the building of the walls commenced. There is a market on Tuesdays and Sundays which you can also visit. Everyone may follow the itinerary they wish for this excursion, although we would like to point out some places of special interest. A tour along Camí de Ronda is the highly recommended. This is the street inside the circle of walls and observe the two magnificent portals still in existence; the Porta del Moll or de Xara and the Porta de Sant Sebastià, or also called Mallorca. The Sant Jaume parish church is also a very important building with features that other churches buildings do not have. Another outstanding one is Can Torró now used as a library of the same name. It has, therafor, the double aspect of being a very well restored XIV century palace which houses the most modern library in the Balearic Islands. This great mansion is in Carrer d’en Serra and nearby is a very old building, Can Fondo. Other mansions that can only be seen from the outside are Can Domenec (on the façade of this mansion there is the Aragon Crown coat of arms which used to be on the Porta de Mallorca), Can Calvó in Carrer dels Albellons and Can Canta in Carrer Major. Also in carrer Major is the Town Hall built in the 20th century. This does not cover everything of interest in the old town centre because, being rather spread out with many houses as old, though not so large, as those mentioned, it comprises different areas that blend together: the same architectural elements, the same building areas, the same style of streets. If you understand a little of the language of the country, the catalan, please take note of the names of the streets in which are concentrated the real history of Alcúdia.

PUIG i COVA DE SANT MARTÍ

El puig de Sant Martí és la muntanya que hi ha al sud-oest de la ciutat. Té dos cims de damunt els quals es veuen unes grans vistes: una vista panoràmica de gran part del terme d´Alcúdia, la ciutat, el port, la muntanya; i també les dues badies, la d´Alcúdia i la de Pollença i bona part de la muntanya de Mallorca. De damunt el cim que hi ha més al sud es pot veure una gran vista del Pla de Mallorca, i de l´Albufera. Aquesta excursió comença i acaba a la plaça de la Porta de Mallorca, sortim de la ciutat cap a ponent per devora un edifici de construcció recent. Agafam el camí de l´Esgleiassa o del Pla d´en Beltran, que va paral·lel a la carretera Alcúdia-Palma, tot d´una travessam un primer camí, i 20 minuts més endavant en travessam un altre, el camí del Puig, continuam dret fins que 10 minuts més tard el camí pega a la carretera Alcúdia-Palma davant una benzinera. Se segueix la carretera fins a la rotonda de la carretera nova. Tot d’una passat la rotonda a l’esquerra s´arriba al camí del Poble Nou. Aquest camí és molt bo de conèixer perquè té un gran pinar a l’esquerra i terra de conradís a la dreta. Puja suaument durant 20 minuts fins que s´arriba a la desviació que puja a dalt del puig. La desviació surt a l´esquerra i a la dreta queda el Poble Nou que dóna nom al camí. La pujada és curta amb 15 minuts arribau al coll que hi ha entre els dos cims i 10 minuts més us basten per arribar a un dels dos cims, el camí continua fins al cim de les antenes. Si voleu anar a l´altre no hi ha camí però l´accés no és gaire difícil. Davallau pel mateix camí que heu pujat, i amb 20 minuts tornau a ser al creuer. Seguiu pel mateix camí que fèieu i 30 minuts més endavant trobareu la cova de Sant Martí, després d’haver travessat la carretera del Murterar. La tornada cap a Alcúdia la farem continuant davallant fins a trobar 300 metres més avall una rotonda, tot d´una després de la rotonda hi ha un camí estret, que hem d´agafar a l´esquerra i arribam a Bellevue (20 minuts), passam per dedins i arribam a Pere Mas i Reus, voltam a l´esquerra i al final del carrer trobam el camí del Puig que seguirem durant 20 minuts, fins que trobem una desviació a la dreta, passat la carretera nova, que ens menarà amb 20 minuts al punt de partida.

Puig de Sant Martí is the mountain south-west of the town. It has two peaks from which there are some wonderful views: one is a panorama of most of Alcúdia district, the town, the port, the mountains, the two bays, the other is of (Alcúdia and Pollença) and a large part of the mountains of Majorca. On top of the southern peak there is an extensive view of the Majorcan plain and the Albufera. This excursion begins and ends in the square, Plaça de la Porta de Mallorca. We leave the town from the front of the Auditorium and we take the road between the Auditorium and the Supermarket. A the end of this road you will find the Camí de l’Esgleiassa. Keep straight on along this road until you reach the Palma - Alcúdia road in front of the Petrol station. Turn left and walk along the main road till reach the big roundabout. Cross the roundabout and carry on towards Palma and about 50 m. on your left you will find the Camí del Poble Nou and the sign Puig de Sant Martí. This path is easy to recognise because it has a large pine wood to the left and cultivated land to the right. This path gently climbs for 20 minutes until it reaches the turning that climbs to the top of the mountain. The turning is on the left and to the right there is Poble Nou that gives its name to the path. The ascent is short, in 15 minutes you reach the hill between the two peaks and a further 10 minutes is long enough to arrive at either of the two peaks. The path continues until the peak of the aerials. If you want to go to the one, there is no path but access is not very difficult. Return down the same path you came up and in 20 minutes you are back at the crossroad. Follow the same path as before and after 30 minutes you will come to the Sant Martí cave, after crossing Murterar road, to return to Alcúdia we shall continue descending until reaching a roundabout 300 meters below; immediately after the roundabout there is a narrow path which we take to the left to arrive at Bellevue (20 minutes). We pass through and arrive at Pere Mas i Reus; turn to the left and at the end of the road we find Camí del Puig which we shall follow for 20 minutes until we reach a turning to the right which in 20 minutes takes us to the point of our departure.

PORTA DE MALLORCA COSTA NORD - PORTA DE XARA

Aquesta excursió ens permetrà gaudir de la costa nord del terme, costa baixa de roques amb qualque platja, amb partida des d´una porta de la ciutat i arribada a l´altra. L´excursió la recomanam amb bicicleta, i recorre la costa nord del terme d´Alcúdia, costa que té un gran atractiu. Partim de la Porta de Mallorca, agafant el carrer de Sant Sebastià. Al final d´aquest carrer surt un camí, el camí del Corral d´en Bennàssar. Aquest camí va per dins horts, 700 metres més endavant, a prop del camí hi ha una sínia antiga, que servia per treure aigua del pou per regar; a la dreta molt a prop hi ha el molí d´en Cabitla. Just devora el molí hem de deixar el camí i anar cap a la mar (300 metres). És una costa molt amable on es confonen natura i construccions, amb uns mollets de fusta repartits per tota aquesta part de costa. Heu de continuar pel passeig de Voramar ran ran de la mar durant 1 Km (hi ha trossos de passeig asfaltat i trossos que no hi està), arribau a la plaça dels Mestres d´Aixa, des de la qual es veu una gran vista de la costa en direcció al cap del Pinar, continuau pel carrer de les Veles i arribau al mollet del Barcarès, després anau per devora la costa per l´avinguda del Camp de Mar fins al Morer Vermell, travessau fins a trobar la mar una altra vegada al passeig de Tirant lo Blanc que us menarà fins a Manresa (1,5 Km). Es travessa Manresa en direcció al Mal Pas, i 800 metres més envant trobam la platja de Sant Joan, i després passam el Mal Pas, i pel camí del Mal Pas tornam cap a Alcúdia (2,5 Km). L´arribada es pot fer pel carrer del Molinot fins a la Porta del Moll. Porta de Mallorca - Costa Nord - Porta Roja Una variant possible més curta de l´excursió anterior des del moll del Barcarès consisteix a continuar cap a Alcúdia pel camí del Barcarès (1 Km), i arribarem a la plaça de la Porta Roja, on antigament hi havia la tercera porta de la ciutat.

With departure from one of the city´s portals and arrival at the other, this excursion enables you to enjoy the district´s north coast, a low, rocky coastline with some beaches. We recommend going by bike on this excursion and cycling along the very attractive north coast of Alcúdia. We depart from the Porta de Mallorca and take Carrer de Sant Sebastià. At the end of that street, there is a path, the Camí del Corral d´en Bennàssar. This path passes through cultivated land and 700 metres ahead, near the path, there is an old water wheel used to draw water from the well to irrigate; nearby to the right there is the Cabitla windmill. Just next to the windmill we must leave the path and head for the sea (300 metres). It is a very pleasant coastline where nature blends with buildings and with wooden moorings scattered all along that part of the shore. Continue along the coast road beside the sea for 1 Km (parts of it have been asphalted and others not), arriving at Plaça de Mestres d´Aixa, from where there is an extensive view of the coast up to Cap del Pinar. Continue along the street, Carrer de les Veles, and arrive at Barcarès harbour, then follow the coast along Avinguda del Camp de Mar, until reaching Morer Vermell. Go across until you arrive at the sea again at Passeig de Tirant lo Blanc and this will lead you to Manresa (1,5 Km). Cross Manresa in the direction of Mal Pas and 800 metres ahead we come to Sant Joan beach. Afterwards we pass Mal Pas, and return to Alcúdia by the Camí de Mal Pas (2,5 Km). It is possible to arrive at the Porta del Moll using the Carrer del Molinot. Porta de Mallorca-North Coast-Porta Roja A shorter version of the above excursion from Barcarès harbour is to continue to Alcúdia by the Camí del Barcarès (1 Km) and arrive at plaça de la Porta Roja where in olden times there was the third city portal.

VOLTA A L’ALBUFERETA

Fer aquesta passejada vol dir poder veure la zona humida de l´Albufereta, amb dos estanys grossets durant bona part de l´any; juntament amb un paisatge que mescla els sementers d´hort amb altres arbres, tot plegat sense deixar de veure la Badia de Pollença, i la mar blava d´un dia clar de primavera. Té la partida i l´arribada al mateix lloc, a la Plaça de la Porta de Mallorca. Es recomana que es faci amb bicicleta. Hem de sortir d´Alcúdia per la carretera que va a la capital, per l´avinguda d´Inca, passam la rotonda que va al Port de Pollença i 20 metres més envant a la dreta, surt un camí asfaltat, el camí dels Braçals. Hem de seguir aquest camí 5 o 6 Km sense fer cas dels camins laterals que surten. Passam un primer torrent. Continuam pel camí asfaltat. Part grossa del camí hem anat com a paral·lels a la costa, però al final d´aquest camí s´acosta una mica a la costa i tot d´una després se´n torna allunyar per devora un torrent més gros. Ja no deixam el torrent fins que al final el travessam el mateix moment que pegam a la carretera que va de Pollença a Alcúdia per la costa. Prenem cap a la dreta i ens acostarem a la mar. Després d´haver fet una partida de Km arribarem a la carretera Alcúdia - Port de Pollença que va ran la vorera de mar. Agafam cap a la dreta i tornarem a Alcúdia, una costa amb poca platja però molt especial ens queda a l´esquerra i l´albufereta encara la tenim a la dreta. A partir d´aquí ja no ens podem perdre perquè no hem de deixar la carretera fins a Alcúdia. Teniu esment del trànsit en aquesta part del recorregut. A la Marina la carretera deixa la mar i s´endinsa dins terra. Poc després arribarem a Alcúdia. Informació i reserves: Tel. 971 89 22 50.

This excursion provides the opportunity to see the humid zone of l´Albufereta, with two large lakes during most of the year. The landscape comb cultivation with trees, without losing sight of Pollença Bay and the sea on a clear spring day. Departure and arrival are from the same place, Plaça de la Porta de Mallorca. It is recommended to go by bike. We must leave Alcúdia by the road to Palma, (L´avinguda d´Inca), pass the crossroads going to Port de Pollença and 20 metres farther on, to the right, there is an asphalted road, el Camí dels Braçals. We follow this road for 5 or 6 Km ignoring any lateral roads along the way and pass the first river. We continue along the asphalted road (most of the way we have been going parallel to the coast) and at the end the road runs slightly closer to the coast. Immediately afterwards it turns away again next to a wider river. Without leaving the river we eventually cross it and join the road that goes along the coast from Pollença to Alcúdia. We turn to the right and are near the sea. After one Km we arrive at the Alcúdia - Port de Pollença road which runs alongside the sea. We turn to the right and go back to Alcúdia. The coast on the left is very special now although there is not much beach and the albufereta is still to the right. From now on we cannot get lost because we do not leave the road until Alcúdia. Be careful of the traffic on this part of the journey. At the Marina the road again leaves the sea and carries straight on inland. Shortly afterwards we arrive at Alcúdia. CAMÍ DE L’HORT DELS MOROS

Aquesta excursió és un itinerari per camins interiors bastant ombrívols per veure una mostra de les garrigues i pinars que hi ha a Mallorca. Un passeig amb bicicleta és la forma més recomanable de fer-lo. Comença i acaba a la Porta de Xara d´Alcúdia. La començam sortint de la vila pel carrer del Bastió de Santa Maria, dins les restes del bastió actualment hi ha l´escola Porta del Moll. Seguim ran ran murada cap al Morer Vermell; després del tram de murada trobam el bastió més ben conservat, el de Sant Ferran. Just davant hi ha la Policia Municipal. Passat aquest edifici i sortint definitivament d´Alcúdia arribam a ca l´Anglès. Deixam el camí del Morer Vermell i anam a trobar el Camí de l´Hort dels Moros pel carrer de Tito Cittadini. Aquest camí fent voltes per dins pinars i alzinars i sementers amb arbres diversos: ametlers, garrovers, figueres... ens menarà al Mal Pas. Topam amb un creuer de camins: deixam fer el primer a la dreta que és el Camí del Mal Pas que torna a Alcúdia i prenem pel segon a la dreta, el camí de Muntanya, que va cap al Coll Baix. A l´esquerra ens queda la Urbanització de Bonaire, 200 metres més i la deixam enrere, trobarem a la dreta un primer camí, el del Puig Xacons, el deixam i continuam en la mateixa direcció. Un poc més envant trobam a la dreta un altre camí asfaltat, que hem de prendre i seguir, és el camí de s´Alou, fa una lleugera pujada i mig Km més envant som a la part més alta, des d´on hi ha una gran vista de tot el Port d´Alcúdia. A partir d´aquí el camí davalla fins a prop de la vila no l´hem de deixar fins que topam amb un camí perpendicularment. Si agafam a la dreta amb 100 metres més, tornam a ser a Alcúdia, podem anar pel carrer de Jaume II i llavors pel del Molinot i arribam al punt de partida.

This excursion is an itinerary through interior, shady roads to show an example of the scrubland and pines in Majorca. The best way to do this is by cycling. It starts and ends at the Porta de Xara d´Alcúdia. We begin by leaving the town along Carrer de Bastió de Santa Maria, where the Porta del Moll school is situated in the remains of the fortress. We continue along the side of the walls towards Morer Vermell; at the end of the walls we find the best conserved fortress, that of Sant Ferran. Just in front there is the local Police station. Pass this building and right outside Alcúdia we arrive at Ca l´Anglès. We leave Camí del Morer Vermell and continue until we reach Camí de l´Hort dels Moros by Carrer de Tito Cittadini. This path winds through pinewoods, wild oaks, and various cultivated trees, such as almonds, carobs, figs... and leads to Mal Pas. We come to a crossroads: ignoring the first turning on the right which is Camí del Mal Pas going towards Alcúdia, we take the second on the right, Camí de la Muntanya leading towards Coll Baix. To the left there is the Bonaire Urbanisation which we leave behind and 200 metres farther on we come first to a road on the right, Puig Xacons, which we ignore and continue in the same direction. A short distance ahead we come to another asphalted road on the right which we take and follow. This is Camí de s´Alou with a gentle climb and half a Km. ahead we are at the highest point, where there is an extensive view over the whole of Port d´Alcúdia. From then on the road goes downhill until close to the town and we keep to it until we come to a road at a right angle. If we go to the right, 100 metres farther on we arrive back at Alcúdia and we can go along the roads Jaume II and then Molinot until we reach the point of departure.

EL COLL BAIX

L´anada al coll Baix us permetrà veure una altra de les joies naturals del terme d´Alcúdia. L´excursió té dos possibles destins: un la platja del coll Baix, i l´altre la Talaia d´Alcúdia, tots dos accessibles únicament a peu. L´excursió es recomana que es faci a peu, tot i que podeu arribar amb bicicleta o cotxe fins al Coll Baix. Partim de la Porta de Mallorca pel carrer de la Creu, i carrer del Molinot, travessam la carretera de Xara cap al carrer de Jaume II, a l’esquerra surt un camí que antigament anava al Moll, s´ha de seguir 100 metres i també a l’esquerra comença el camí de s´Alou, el qual amb una pujada constant d´un parell de Km ens mena al punt més alt del camí amb una bona vista de tot el Port d´Alcúdia, llavors comença una lleugeríssima davallada i arribam al camí de la Muntanya, prenem cap a la dreta. El camí passa per dins un paisatge amb camps voltats de marges, molt tradicional d´aquestes terres primes, fins que arriba a l´Àrea Natural (2,5 Km). Aquí el camí va serpentejant per dins els pinars, inicialment al mateix nivell i al final amb una pujada fins que arribam al coll Baix, on podreu beure i seure (3 Km).

By going to Coll Baix we can see another of Alcúdia´s natural attractions. The excursion has two possible destinations, one the Coll Baix beach and the other the Talaia d´Alcúdia, both only accessible on foot. It is advisable to walk on this excursion although you can get as far as Coll Baix by bike or car. We leave the Porta de Mallorca by Carrer de la Creu and Carrer del Molinot, cross the Xara road up to Jaume II road and to the left there is a path that used to go to the Moll or harbour. Carry on for 100 metres and also to the left there is the beginning of Camí de s´Alou. This climbs steadily for a couple of Kms and leads to the highest point of the path where there is a good view of the whole of Port d´Alcúdia. After an easy descent we reach Camí de la Muntanya which we take to the right. The path passes through countryside with fields enclosed by the very traditional stone walls of this arid land and it takes you to the Protected Natural Area (2,5 Km).Here the path winds through the pinewoods, at first on level ground and finally climbing until we reach Coll Baix, where you can sit and have a drink (3 Km).

Platja del Coll Baix Es pot davallar a la platja per un caminoi ben senyat que surt del coll i amb 30 minuts ja sereu a baix. Tant la davallada com la platja mateixa tenen un gran interès. La davallada no és perillosa, encara que la darrera part el caminoi es perd i es quan s´ha d´anar més alerta.

Platja del Coll Baix There is a well marked track from the hill which you can use to go down to the beach and in 30 minutes you will be there. Both the walk down and the beach are very interesting. The descent is not dangerous, although the track disappears towards the end and that is where you should take care.

Talaia d´Alcúdia Una altra opció és pujar a la Talaia. Per fer-ho surt un camí a l´esquerra del coll, construït, però per passar-hi únicament a peu. Aquest camí ja no us deixarà fins que hi sigueu. La primera part consisteix en unes llaçades que pugen ràpidament el puig del Boc (30 minuts), manté l´altura i llavors davalla una mica i torna a pujar ràpidament amb unes noves llaçades cap a la dreta del puig, i topa amb el camí que puja de l´ermita de la Victòria (40 minuts). Només falten cinc minuts per ser a dalt. La davallada potser pel mateix camí o per l´ermita de la Victòria (excursió núm. 1).

Talaia d´Alcúdia Another option is to climb to the Talaia. To do this there is a built parts to the left of the hill although it is only for walking. Do not leave this path until you arrive. The first part comprises some bends that rapidly climb to Puig del Boc (30 minutes). It levels out, but, after a short descent, climbs again. There are more bends and then the path ,meets the path going up to l’Ermita de la Victòria (40 minutes). It will then only take you 5 minutes to reach the Talaia. The descent can be made by the same path or by the l´Ermita de la Victòria (excursion núm. 1).

An easy route that runs primarily along the northern coast of the town of Alcúdia. The route begins in el Barcarès and it skirts the gentle, exceedingly lovely coast along the Punta de Manresa.

LLOCS D’INTERÈS: Centre històric d’Alcúdia i jaciment arqueològic de Pol·lèntia, declarats Conjunt Històric Artístic. Platja de Sant Joan, platja de Sant Pere i la Reserva Natural de l’Albufereta.

LLOCS D’INTERÈS: Centre històric d’Alcúdia i jaciment arqueològic de Pol·lèntia, declarats Conjunt Històric Artístic, Fundació de Yannick i Ben Jakober, que alberga una col·lecció de retrats infantils dels segles XVI al XIX, parets de pedra en sec, Parc Natural de l’Albufera, i platja del Coll Baix.
