Our

evolution

1992

from

humble beginnings...

Facilities by ADF PLC started life as Andy Dixon Facilities, a one-man mission to create a high-quality production facilities company.

04

ADF OUR EVOLUTION

Founder Andy Dixon begun working in the film and television industry by default, but quickly became familiar with the needs of production companies. After working with several other facilities providers, he felt that there was a gap in the market for a better level of service. A rather mature bus became his first diner, followed by a bijou honeywagon hand-rollered in battleship grey by Andy himself. They were the pride of his fleet – which grew along with demand, as word started to spread.

...to a fully

coordinated facilities service

PRESENT

DAY

Next, experienced media logistics expert Steve Haines joined the venture, which led to the introduction of articulated trailers and bespoke vehicle fit-outs to meet customer requirements, along with an expanding team. It wasn’t long before ADF was supplying network TV dramas and small film projects across Wales, then further throughout the UK and Europe.

Fast forward thirty years, Facilities by ADF is now a publicly listed company, providing a 24-hour, seven days-a-week operation and has a fleet of over 600 high quality location vehicles, capable of servicing 20 large productions at any one time. Our experienced teams are based in our head office in Pencoed (Bridgend), Brynmenyn Factory and Operational Base in Longcross (Surrey), with offices in Great Point Seren Studios (Cardiff), Sharp Project (Manchester) and Pinewood Studios (Slough).

Since inception, ADF has invested both time and money into continual improvements and is committed to do so for the foreseeable future, through organic growth as well as acquisitions. The rewards have been an increase in market share, growth of our client base, repeat business and enthusiastic recommendations, along with a reinforcement of our strong industry reputation for consistently delivering a high-quality service. To capitalise on these successes, the business listed on the AIM Market of the London Stock Exchange in January 2022, to meet the increasing demand from the UK’s TV and film production industry amid the acceleration of streaming globally.

Marsden Proctor (Chief Executive Officer) has a strategic plan for the business and our customers appreciate our commitment to our values, which is why so many have stayed with us on this journey, benefiting from our friendly and professional service. Ongoing investment in our people, infrastructure, fleet and sustainability ensures that we can continue adapting to the evolving needs of the film and television industry, maintaining our position as market leader in the provision of premium serviced production facilities to the UK film and high-end television industry.

Fleet Compliance

Our employees are appropriately trained to carry out their tasks competently. For each project, we provide a pre-production pack which covers risk assessments and safe systems of work. Our monitoring arrangements include a program of regular inspection, audit and reporting to ensure ongoing compliance to our safe systems of work.

Sustainability

Electrical Safety As an NICEIC approved contractor, you can be confident that all installation and testing is carried out to approved standards and for maximum convenience we employ our own electricians who are available on a call out basis.

ADF OUR RESPONSIBILITIES

We were excited to see ADFs growing commitment to sustainability in their work. This included investments in ‘eco’ kit, which meant we could hire honeywagons that ran on solar power, trucks that incorporated solar panels and air source heat pumps, and generators that used renewable diesel. They also embraced our ‘no idling’ policy for all vehicles, and undertook to using more ‘eco’ cleaning products where possible. Through these commitments ADF were able to contribute to reducing the production’s carbon footprint. Tilly Ashton Production Sustainability Advisor on HAVOC (Severn Screen / XYZ Films / Netflix)

We hold a full DVSA Operators licence for the commercial vehicle operational fleet which enables us to demonstrate compliance for vehicles extending to strict management of drivers’ hours and working directives.

As the first albert approved facilities provider to the film and television industry in Europe, we collaborate closely with our clients and suppliers to reduce the impact of our operations on the environment, helping to deliver an environmentally sustainable media production industry. ADF is excited to be working with Creative Zero to undergo a Carbon Audit in order to better understand our impact on the environment, as we embark upon a journey to ultimately become a carbon-neutral operator in the future.

Providing a reliable, comprehensive and high-quality service in all areas is our top priority. We work closely with a range of trading partners who specialise in compliance, sustainability, training, insurance and transport operations, to ensure we adapt to the evolving needs of the film and television industry, maintaining our position as market leader in the provision for on-location support. “At Screen Alliance Wales, we are dedicated to opening the doors of the Film and TV Industry to as many people as we possibly can. Our aim is to show just how many varied careers there are available in this industry from carpentry to catering to camera work and beyond. To date, we have engaged with over 14,000 people across Wales. However, we could not do any of this without the backing of our wonderful sponsors. Facilities by ADF has

supported SAW from the very early days and we have a shared goal to help people of all ages into the industry. We are both passionate about the importance of creating opportunities for people who don’t normally have opportunities available to them. Facilities by ADF has not only supported SAW with sponsorship but has also provided work shadowing placements and masterclasses for us as well. ADF is also a massive supporter

of all our work and initiatives via social media, helping us to reach out to even more people. We are extremely grateful to Facilities by ADF and we look forward to continuing our successful and supportive partnership for years to come.” Allison Dowzell Managing Director, Screen Alliance Wales

Improving life on location Over the years, we’ve listened closely to what our clients have told us, then used what we’ve learned to continually update and embellish what we offer. This has involved substantial investment in our fleet to create contemporary spaces which make daily work easier, more comfortable and inclusive.

ADF is proud to be working closely with Underlying Health Conditions (UHC), a pressure group for disabled representation in the TV & Film Industry on the manufacture and supply of wheelchair access Honey Wagons as well as adapted American 2-ways.

UHC’s report launched in December 2021 was called Everybody Forgot About the Toilets and we couldn’t be happier that ADF are leading the way in helping the industry to never again forget. ADF have created an exceptional asset. By thinking about accessibility throughout the design process everything is integrated so brilliantly. UHC are delighted to be supporting ADF in their efforts to bring about change the industry requires. Katie Player, Film & TV Production Manager

Dining trailers

Honeywagons

On location, there are few things more important than a comfortable space to eat and drink. Our dining trailers are air-conditioned and well-lit, providing an ideal environment for production crews to refuel. They’re also sensibly sized, with up to 60 seats; and are robustly designed by our workshop team, which means they easily withstand wear and tear from adverse weather conditions and muddy boots.

ADF DINING TRAILERS

So, what’s a honeywagon? Despite a name which indicates sweet excitement, it actually contains (wait for it)... portable toilet facilities. But we promise it’s much nicer than a typical portaloo. We can supply the industry standard, which contains two, four, six or ten cubicles with access options, as well solar-powered units which operate self-sufficiently using power from roof-mounted solar panels, which supply lighting.
