In 2021, approximately 1,146,688 Honduran boys, girls, and youth were out of the education system. Only three out of 10 students who enrol in first grade finish high school and only two go on to college . (Transformemos Honduras, 2022) From the year 2000 to June 2022 there have been approximately 97,600 violent deaths in Honduras. This figure represents an average of 12 daily victims or a violent death every two hours. Most of the victims of these crimes are adolescents and young people. (CONADEH 2022) Context In Colonia Flor del Campo (a poor neighborhood in Tegucigalpa) most of the children and young people who drop out of the educational system do so because they have to work to help get food for their home or because the gangs have recruited to commit crimes. We believe that this problem must be attacked at its root through educational and social processes from early childhood and not waiting for them to reach adolescence when it is too late. Facing the problem A non-profit, non-governmental K-12 school located in Colonia Flor del Campo in the Central District, which offers school scholarships for children and adolescents. This school will have a special curriculum to develop community leadership skills and training in entrepreneurship from preschool to high school. Final product To create a non-profit, non-governmental K-12 school in Colonia Flor del Campo that offers scholarships and social aid for poor children and adolescents in the Central District.
