Another Successful Fitness Extravaganza in the Books! On March 19 we held our 11th Fitness Extravaganza at the Town Center with 147 athletes participating in one or more of the following events: Sprint Triathlon, Super Sprint Triathlon, 5K and/or 15 Mile Bike. All athletes received a commemorative water bottle and an event medal. If you are an athlete who did not receive your medal, please see Stacy in the fitness center. This event would not have been possible without the support and cheering from our 30+ Resident Volunteers who each had an integral part in ensuring a smooth and safe event. Thank you to the Palazzo neighborhood for running the “party table” water station in your neighborhood. The athletes loved your support and your refreshments! Results of the event can viewed on the Pelican Preserve website under Fitness.

FRIENDS IN NEED OF COMPANIONSHIP

The “Friends in Need of Companionship” program started in 2017. Over the years our Volunteers have met Resident’s needs such as, visiting a homebound person, playing cards/games, watching TV together, or just socializing with them. This gives a spouse or adult child respite time to go to a class, do grocery shopping, or take care of personal business, etc. Due to COVID the program was suspended, and now after a full year and a half, we are excited to be able to start again! There is NO Medical, hands-on-care provided by our Volunteers, but only support and companionship (Fact: Over 98% of our Volunteers have no medical background). They are just caring individuals. The volunteering can be once a week, once a month…solely determined by the Volunteer and their availability. We usually send out 2 volunteers for each visit and there can be multiple Volunteers for each Resident to ensure coverage. Orientation is given to all Volunteers. There are Volunteers ready to help now, and we encourage you to take advantage of our program, if there is a need. Once assistance is requested, Nurse Coordinators will meet with the family to ensure that the Volunteers can meet the need for Companionship for the Resident. The “REQUEST FOR ASSISTANCE” form can be obtained from Ashley or Nicole in the Pelican Preserve Lounge or downloaded from the Pelican Preserve website under: Town Center>Center Documents>Miscellaneous Forms> Friends in Need of Companionship. “VOLUNTEER FORMS” for our program can be obtained the same way. We hope you will consider being involved in this program, which fosters a sense of caring and support for everyone in our community. Our mantra is “Pelican Preserve Residents helping other Pelican Preserve Residents in their time of need”.
