Selecting Your Siding Colour

Once you have the style picked out you can then choose the color of vinyl siding you want from on of the websites below. Here are a few tips:

• Less is more. You don’t want your home to look too busy. As a rule of thumb, no more than 3 different colors should be on your home.

• If you were planning on using more than one siding color, start by picking the base color and going from there for your accent. • Certain vinyl colors have very distinct undertones, keep this in mind when you are mixing and matching colors.

• The suppliers listed below will always have color schemes they recommend for their products to help you along as well.

• Keep in mind that just because you can find the product online it may not be available or could have an order quantity minimum. Here are the four main siding distributors in HRM and the links to their websites: Gentek - www.gentek.ca/products-catalog/siding/ Kaycan - www.kaycan.com/products/

Selecting Your Outside Corners

Outside corner Posts are required on all 90-degree angles of your home.

If you want the corners of your home to blend into the rest of it, almost every vinyl siding color has a color matching corner post available. They measure as an industry standard 3” wide and are 10’ in length. If you want the corners to have more of a contrast from the siding on your home (often seen on homes that have a darker vinyl siding) you may than want to consider using a designer 5” corner post instead. This corner is a great option for when the height of the wall is greater than 10’.

This corner comes insulated with a foam backer for easier installation and is 5-1/2” wide and 20’ in length. Standard Corner Post

Selecting Your Siding Trim

You can pick different size trims when finishing around the windows and doors of your home. The most common option is a standard J-Channel as shown below. J-Channel

This siding trim can either match the siding color or will often match the color of your windows, for example white.

If you wish to have a wider trim around the windows you may want to consider a window casing trim. The white portion that you see after installation ranges from 2.5” to 5”. Below are the 3 different sizes of window and door casing available. 5” Casing

Upgrading Your Siding Trim

Another option to go around the windows and doors of your home is to use PVC trims and moldings. PVC is mold-resistant and maintenance free. These trims will not weather over time and require no painting.

One side of the PVC trim board is smooth and the other has natural woodgrain and can be installed with either side facing out.

There are many different moldings and trims available that can be achieved using this product. The trims are secured to your home with a PVC fastener system. This system includes a 2-3/4” long screw and a PVC plug (either with a smooth or woodgrain texture). The fastener is counter-sunk to a depth that allows the plug to run flush along the board concealing the fastener all together.

There are many different PVC moldings and trims available that give you the ability to customize the trims on your home. PVC trim boards and moldings can be found on the website listed below. https://rbp-files-prod.s3.amazonaws.com/rbp_com/s3fs-public/2021-03/rbp_2021_tm_directory_011921_1.pdf
