Dear ICOH members, Please accept this warm invitation to participate in the 30th Congress of the International Commission on Occupational Health (ICOH) to be held in Monterrey, Mexico, from Sunday, March 18 to Friday, March 23, 2012. The 2012 ICOH Organizing Committee has made the following three commitments to those attending this year’s Congress: 1. A superior level scientific program, 2. Lower entry fees than those at the two previous ICOH Congresses, and 3. Excellent congress facilities. These commitments were expressed to ICOH members at the closing ceremony of the 2009 ICOH Congress in Cape Town, since when we have been making every effort to honor these pledges. The theme of the upcoming Congress is “Occupational Health for All: From Research to Practice”, and is based on the belief that all workers of the world require health protection to prevent any occupational disease or injury as part of their human and labor rights. To achieve such an important goal, we need to take advantage of new scientific information to develop innovative guidelines, new approaches and procedures, training courses, and so on that can be applied to workers’ health protection. Over 90% of scientific papers on occupational health are written in developed countries, though it is in developing countries where the most compelling needs in this field are a part of everyday reality. The Monterrey Congress aims to build a bridge between research and practice in order to help developed and developing countries improve the level of health protection for workers and help prevent occupational injuries and diseases. The Congress will deal with subjects relevant to occupational health at its ten plenary sessions, thirty semi-plenary and up to two hundred mini-symposiums. The languages used at the Congress will be English, French and Spanish. A number of grants will be available to support speakers attending from developing countries. Monterrey is Mexico’s third major city and where most of the country’s modern industry is based. It is the capital city of the state of Nuevo León, which borders the US state of Texas. The city has many local industry plants as well as in-bond assembly plants. In recent years, Fortune and América Económica magazines have rated Monterrey as the best city in which to conduct business in Latin America and Mexico respectively. Monterrey is also one of the best connected cities in Mexico in terms of international and domestic flights. The venue for this year’s Congress, Cintermex, is located on a site once occupied by a very large foundry, and one which is now home to a beautiful park, convention center and industry museum thanks to the city’s efforts to ensure the sustainable development of the region. Chers membres de l’ICOH, Par ce biais je désire vous inviter cordialement à participer au 30ème Congrès de la Commission Internationale de la Santé au travail (ICOH, pour ses sigles en anglais) qui se déroulera à Monterrey, au Mexique, du dimanche 18 mars au vendredi 23 mars 2012. Le Comité Organisateur du Congrès ICOH 2012 a les trois engagements suivants avec les assistants de l’événement : 1) Présenter un programme scientifique de haut niveau 2) Proposer des frais d’inscription moindres en comparaison à ceux des deux congrès ICOH précédents 3) Choisir un excellent siège pour le Congrès. Ces engagements se sont propagés entre les membres de l’ICOH pendant la cérémonie de clôture du Congrès ICOH 2009, dans la ville du Cap. Nous travaillons avec intensité afin de les respecter. Le thème du Congrès est : « la santé au travail pour tous : de la recherche à la pratique ». Cela signifie que parmi les droits humains et les droits du travail, tous les travailleurs du monde ont besoin d’une protection au niveau de la santé, de manière à prévenir tous types de maladies ou des accidents de travail. Afin d’atteindre cet objectif si important, nous devons profiter de l’information scientifique la plus récente pour développer des lignes innovatrices, de nouvelles optiques et des procédures, des cours de formation, etc. qui s’appliquent à la protection de la santé des travailleurs. Plus de 90% des articles scientifiques qui traitent de la santé au travail proviennent de pays développés, tandis que les besoins les plus urgents dans ce domaine sont la réalité des pays en voie de développement. Ce Congrès a pour objectif d’unifier la recherche et la pratique pour aider les pays développés et les pays en voie de développement à améliorer la protection de la santé de leurs travailleurs et de prévenir les blessures et maladies au travail. Durant le Congrès on parlera de thèmes qui ont à voir avec la santé au travail, divisés en 10 séances plénières, 30 séances semi-plénières et aussi 200 mini symposiums. Les langues officielles du Congrès sont l’anglais, le français et l’espagnol. Nous disposerons également d’un certain nombre de bourses afin d’aider les intervenants provenant de pays en voie de développement. Monterrey est la troisième ville la plus importante du Mexique et la plupart des industries modernes du Mexique proviennent de ce centre urbain. Monterrey est la capitale de l’état de Nuevo León et est limitrophe à l’état du Texas, aux Etats-Unis. La ville peut compter sur des industries locales et des usines de sous-traitance. Les années précédentes, les revues Fortune et América Ecónomica ont qualifié Monterrey comme étant la meilleure ville pour faire du négoce en Amérique Latine et au Mexique, respectivement. Quant aux vols nationaux et internationaux, Monterrey dispose d’une des meilleures connectivités du Mexique. Cintermex, le lieu où se déroulera le Congrès, est situé sur les terrains d’une énorme et ancienne fonderie. Afin d’aider le développement durable de la ville, la fonderie a fermé et s’est transformée en un très joli parc, en un centre de congrès et en un musée industriel. Estimados miembros de la ICOH: Por este medio deseo invitarlos cordialmente a participar en el 30 Congreso de la Comisión Internacional de Salud Ocupacional (ICOH, por sus siglas en inglés) que se llevará a cabo en Monterrey, México, del domingo 18 de marzo al viernes 23 de marzo de 2012. El Comité Organizador del Congreso ICOH 2012 tiene los siguientes tres compromisos para con los asistentes al evento: 1) Presentar un programa científico de alto nivel, 2) Ofrecer cuotas de registro menores en comparación a los dos congresos ICOH anteriores, y 3) Seleccionar una excelente sede para el Congreso. Estos compromisos se difundieron entre los miembros de la ICOH durante la ceremonia de clausura del Congreso ICOH 2009, en Ciudad del Cabo. Estamos trabajando muy intensamente para cumplir con ellos. El tema del Congreso es: “Salud ocupacional para todos: De la investigación a la práctica”. Esto significa que, como parte de sus derechos humanos y laborales, todos los trabajadores del mundo requieren protección para su salud, de modo que se prevengan todo tipo de enfermedades o accidentes de trabajo. A fin de alcanzar esta meta tan importante, debemos aprovechar la información científica más reciente para desarrollar lineamientos innovadores, nuevos enfoques y procedimientos, cursos de capacitación, etc. que se apliquen a la protección de la salud de los trabajadores. Más del 90% de los artículos científicos que tratan sobre la salud en el trabajo provienen de países desarrollados, mientras que las necesidades más apremiantes en este ámbito son una realidad de los países en vías de desarrollo. Este Congreso pretende tender un puente entre la investigación y la práctica para ayudar a los países desarrollados y en vías de desarrollo a mejorar la protección de la salud de sus trabajadores y prevenir las lesiones y enfermedades ocupacionales. Durante el Congreso se tratarán temas pertinentes a la salud en el trabajo, repartidos en 10 sesiones plenarias, 30 sesiones semiplenarias y hasta 200 minisimposios. Los idiomas oficiales del Congreso son inglés, francés y español. También tendremos disponibles un cierto número de becas para apoyar a los ponentes provenientes de países en vías de desarrollo. Monterrey es la tercera ciudad más importante de México y la mayor parte de las industrias modernas de México provienen de este centro urbano. Monterrey es la capital del estado de Nuevo León, y limita con el estado de Texas, Estados Unidos. La ciudad cuenta con industrias locales y maquiladoras. En años pasados, las revistas Fortune y América Económica calificaron a Monterrey como la mejor ciudad para hacer negocios en Latinoamérica y México, respectivamente. La conectividad de Monterrey en cuanto a vuelos nacionales e internacionales es una de las mejores de México. Cintermex, el lugar donde se llevará a cabo el Congreso, está ubicado en los terrenos de una enorme y muy antigua planta fundidora. Como una manera de apoyar el desarrollo sustentable de la ciudad, se cerró la fundidora y se transformó en un hermoso parque, centro de convenciones y museo industrial.
