his coming week we begin National Catholic Schools Week. This year’s national theme is: “Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge, and Service. The annual commemoration is an occasion for the Church in the United States to acknowledge and celebrate the gift and opportunity which is our Catholic system of schools, which serve so well as the chief evangelizational tool in the Church’s mission of education coast to coast throughout Catholicism in America. How appropriate, therefore, that we continue the celebration of the 90th anniversary of our very own Saint Theresa Catholic School (formerly called Saint Joseph’s Academy founded in 1925) with a Mass this Saturday evening that welcomes our many alumni who are counted among the graduates that now span nine decades of Catholic education in the service of the Church and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We have so much to be proud of here at our parish school of Saint Theresa. Our esteemed alumni (and even our current students) are among the credits which underscore the benefits, blessings, and successes of youth education in the Catholic tradition. The Church’s formula is a holistic one, which addresses care for the total person: body, mind, and soul. A well-rounded, mature, inquisitive, value-centered, faith-filled, life-long learner is the hoped for net result. National Catholic Schools Week helps us get our minds wrapped around this mission. In an inspiring way, its theme is, therefore, a fitting summary of what we see enfleshed every day at Saint Theresa Catholic School. Yet, one of the other characteristics that is immediately noticeable among our current students (a feature found, too, among the countless others that have journeyed through the halls of Saint Theresa throughout the decades) is that of joy. The sense of community, service, faith, and togetherness along the journey of life and learning have consistently produced joy among our students, an atmosphere that is palpable as one makes their way through the halls and classrooms of Saint Theresa School. The children are eager to learn, to pray, to serve, and to be kind. They do so joyfully. Their happiness and optimism is infectious. I am sure our Blessed Lord is mighty proud! During Catholic Schools Week, Saint Theresa School will have a wide variety of activities and special events which are designed to capture the meaning, sentiment, and privilege of our wonderful parochial school atmosphere. It is also an opportunity to foster the natural appetite that our children have to make a difference, putting into practice our Lord’s words: “do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” Charitable concern for others (through the Wounded Warrior Project and the Global Medical Brigade Project) will again be evidenced in the celebration of this special week. Likewise, Catholic Schools Week will also include opportunities to offer expressions of gratitude to those that love, serve, and care about our children, and make a quality Catholic school environment possible. Our teachers, namely, will be thanked and recognized. Just as we hear in our Gospel reading this weekend how many people were “taken” by Jesus’ gracious words and disposition, our on-going prayer is that many young hearts and souls will likewise be “taken” by the joyful atmosphere of Christian virtue, evidenced in Catholic Schools. Each school is a laboratory of discipleship. May the development of faith, knowledge, and service for the advancement of Christ and the mission of the Church always be the center of our efforts at Saint Theresa Catholic School, and all Catholic schools dedicated to the glory of God.

Faith, hope, and love remain, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

t is doubtful that Saint Paul, when he sat down to write what we now know as the thirteenth chapter of First Corinthians, knew that he was penning what was to become one of the keystones of Christian ethics. In this brief passage, he set down ideals about love that have held fast through the centuries. Sometimes we may think that because these are ideals to which we aspire, we are excused from them in our daily living. But what Paul was writing was a letter to his friends, providing them with some sound advice about what it meant—and still means—to live in love, day by day, as a follower of Christ. We find in his words to his friends a broadening of the great commands of Jesus to love God and neighbor. Today we hear what this love must look like in our own actions, and how it ought to guide our relationships with others.

Among the spiritual opportunities that will help us during our Lenten journey this spring will be evenings of reflection done on Wednesday nights with Father Tran. Mark your calendars. Catholic Casseroles return on February 17th & 24th and March 2nd & 9th. You bring a dish for the potluck dinner. Lenten reflections by Father Tran will follow. A lovely way to enter into the spirit of Lent and community. Graciously supervised by the Son Flower Hospitality Ministry. Contact the Ministries Office for more information.
In August, in celebration of our parish’s 90th anniversary, Father Tran will be leading a group pilgrimage to see Saint Therese, her birth place, convent, Basilica and burial place in Lisieux. The tour will include other highlights such as stops at Normandy, Lourdes and Saint Bernadette, Mont Saint Michel, Sacre Coeur, Saint Vincent, Notre Dame, and the Eiffel Tower. Free color brochures are currently available, which advertise a great price for a 9-day trip. A wonderful summertime spiritual vacation awaits. Register today! For more information contact Father Tran at the parish office.
Our next quarterly Healing Mass, during which the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick will be bestowed, is scheduled for Monday, March 7th at 7:00pm. All those who are terminally ill, dealing with serious physical challenges to health and wellbeing, facing or recovering from surgery, and burdened with the weight of years, are especially invited to join the multiple priests who will be present, as we pray for the healing touch and mercy of the Lord. All are welcome.
ARCHBISHOP’S CHARITIES DRIVE Our church is a place to pray, to give thanks, to mourn and to celebrate. A place for us all to unite — in need and abundance — to have mercy, lift each other up and ease pain and suffering. A place people turn to in their time of need. We are all instruments of God’s mercy and peace. Our church, our family uniting to help those in need. Thank you to all who have already generously responded to this year’s ABCD. Your support strengthens the ministries that serve our Archdiocese and allow the Church to form new disciples. As Scriptures remind us, Give and it shall be given to you. Your neighbor needs you. You are the answer to someone’s prayers, and together, we are changing lives. If you have yet to respond to this year’s ABCD, please take a moment to reflect upon the many blessings the Lord has given you and how He is calling you to respond this incredibly important annual campaign. To make a gift, you can obtain a pledge envelope from the parish office or you can make a gift online at www.isupportabcd.org. Let us all unite through our support of this year’s ABCD so that we can be One in Faith, One in Hope and One in Charity. Thank you. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

¡Gracias!
