The demographic structure and trends are very similar to those of industrialized countries: low growth rate and aging population. RELIGION Cuba is a secular country with freedom of worship. The prevailing religions are Catholicism and AfroCuban religions. There is also a minority of Protestants and Muslims. Its distinctive feature is the syncretism of African forms of worship with Catholic dogmas, saints and liturgy. TOURIST ATTRACTIONS Besides its unique beauty, the country also offers travelers high levels of security, social stability and above all, its people, who are cultured and hospitable.
BEACHES More than 300 natural beaches ring the country, blessed with fine white-sand and clam, warm waters, free from contamination, extending some 600 km. Its ocean bottom stands out for its impressive biodiversity, considered among the richest in the Caribbean and in excellent state of preservation, with an average horizontal visibility ranging from 20 to 40 meters. It is the habitat of marine species that excel for their bright yours colours, with more than a thousand shipwrecks and around 850 km of coral reefs. Another significant feature is the absence of strong marine currents. NATURE The most important natural environment of the Caribbean due to the extent of its biodiversity, levels of endemism and state of conservation, with lush tropical vegetation that stands out for its richness, great diversity and lack of dangerous animals. Its varied avifauna is represented by more than 350 species, many endemic and others that migrate to the archipielago, mainly in winter. There are more than 300 protected areas, which occupy 22% of the national territory and six areas declared Biosphere Reserves by Unesco: · Península de Guanahacabibes · Sierra del Rosario · Ciénaga de Zapata · Buenavista · Parque Baconao · Cuchillas del Toa Viñales Valley stands out for its spectacular landscape. Located only 180 km west of Havana, it is also the site of the largest cave system in Caribbean. Its preeminence is due to a chain of unique rounded elevations, scattered throughout the valley and protruding vertically from the flat agricultural, called mogotes which resemble the silhouettes of prehistoric animals such as mammoths.

INFORMACIÓN DE INTERÉS CORRIENTE ELÉCTRICA Todos los hoteles cuentan con corriente de 110 V y tomacorrientes de espigas planas. En algunas instalaciones el uso de la corriente es de 220 V. HUSO HORARIO La hora oficial es la correspondiente al huso horario 19, determinado por el meridiano 75 de longitud oeste. Cuando son las 12 m en Greenwich, en Cuba son las 7 a.m. Es decir, las GMT -5 horas. Esta es la hora estándar de la costa este de EE.UU. y Canadá. Como en muchos países, entre abril y octubre se adopta el horario de verano, por lo que los relojes se adelantan una hora para aprovechar al máximo la luz solar. VESTUARIO Tejidos de algodón y similares son los más recomendables. Para el invierno y lugares climatizados se sugieren prendas de lana fina o gabardina. Un impermeable ligero puede ser útil en temporada de lluvia. Para asistir a lugares como teatros, salas de concierto y cabarets, restaurantes de lujo y otros, se requiere de vestuario más formal. ¿CÓMO LLEGAR? Diez aeropuertos internacionales reciben vuelos regulares y chárteres. También dispone el país de 8 marinas internacionales y 3 terminales de cruceros. TASA DE AEROPUERTO El impuesto de salida en los aeropuertos internacionales cubanos es de 25.00 CUC.
MONEDA Y FORMAS DE PAGO La moneda nacional es el peso cubano (CUP), pero también circula el peso cubano convertible (CUC) para el pago de bienes y servicios en divisas. No hay ningún tipo de limitación sobre la tenencia de dólares de EE.UU. o cualquier otra moneda foránea. También está autorizado el uso y circulación del euro en establecimientos turísticos de Varadero, Cayo Santa María, Cayo Guillermo, Cayo Coco, Cayo Largo del Sur, Playa Santa Lucía (Camagüey), Playa Covarrubias (Las Tunas) y litoral norte de Holguín (playas Guardalavaca, Esmeralda y Pesquero). Se aplica un gravamen del 10 % para la adquisición de pesos convertibles con dólares de EE.UU. en efectivo. La tasa de cambio oficial del peso convertible con relación al dólar estadounidense es 1 x 1. El resto de las divisas que actualmente se canjean en Cuba: euro, dólar canadiense, libra esterlina, franco suizo, yen japonés, pesos mexicanos y bolívares venezolanos se cambian por pesos convertibles sin gravamen alguno y tomando como referencia la tasa de cambio respecto al dólar. Cambiar cualquier moneda convertible a CUC y viceversa puede hacerse en los propios hoteles y en los aeropuertos. En las principales ciudades del país existen Casas de Cambio (CADECA) que permiten la conversión de divisas en pesos cubanos y en CUC. REGULACIONES • Todo visitante debe poseer un pasaporte vigente a su nombre y la correspondiente visa o tarjeta de turista, salvo en los casos de países que mantienen convenio de libre visado con Cuba.
• Los viajeros podrán sacar del país hasta 50 unidades de tabaco torcido sin la obligación de presentar ningún documento. Cantidades superiores podrán ser exportadas siempre que estén contenidas en envases originales, cerrados y sellados con el holograma oficial establecido, y se acredite la adquisición lícita con la factura o documento de venta oficial, expedido por la red de tiendas autorizadas a comercializar tabacos habanos. • Las leyes aduaneras prohíben los ingresos de material pornográfico, animales vivos y armas de fuego, aunque estas últimas sí pueden autorizarse cuando se trata de armas para la caza deportiva, por la entidad encargada de esta modalidad turística. • Se permite la exportación de obras de arte, antigüedades y otros bienes culturales protegidos legalmente, con la debida documentación de las instituciones competentes y acreditadas con la factura de compra. • El valor máximo de exportación de otros artículos es de mil dólares. La artesanía no requiere de documentación para ser exportada. • La tenencia, consumo y tráfico de drogas ilícitas, estupefacientes, sustancias psicotrópicas u otras de efectos similares está severamente penalizada. • Los viajeros deben contar con un seguro de viaje que incluya gastos médicos o una póliza de gastos médicos, con cobertura dentro de Cuba. USEFUL INFORMATION ELECTRIC POWER All hotels have 110 V, flat plugs and sockets. Some installations use 220 V. TIME ZONE The official time is that which corresponds to time zone 19, determined by meridian 75 west longitudes. When it is 12 noon in Greenwich, it is 7 am in Cuba or GMT -5 hrs. The country is on Eastern Standard Time, like the entire eastern coast of the United States and Canada. As in many countries, daylight saving times applies between April and October, as a result of which clocks are set forward one hour to maximize sunlight. WHAT TO WEAR Casual comfortable fabrics like cotton are mostly recommended. During the winter season and in airconditioned places, we suggest fine woolen garments or a trench coat. A light raincoat may come handy during the rainy season. When attending places such as theaters, concert halls, cabarets and fancy restaurants, formal attire is required. HOW TO GET THERE? Ten international airports receive regular and chartered flights. The country also has 8 international marinas and 3 cruise terminals. AIRPORT TAX Departure tax in Cuban international airports is 25.00 CUC.
CURRENCY The Cuban Peso (CUP) is the national currency however the Convertible Cuban Peso (CUC) is also used to pay for goods and services in hard currency. There are no legal restrictions on the holding of US dollars or other foreign currency. The use and circulation of euros is accepted in tourist facilities in Varadero, Cayo Santa Maria, Cayo Guillermo, Cayo Coco, Cayo Largo del Sur, Playa Santa Lucia (Camaguey), Playa Covarrubias (Las Tunas) and on the northern coast of Holguín (Guardalavaca, Esmeralda and Pesquero). There is a 10% tax when exchanging US dollars for convertible pesos in cash. The official exchange rate of the convertible peso against the U.S. dollar is 1 x 1. The rest of the currencies currently accepted in Cuba: the euro, Canadian dollar, British pound, Swiss franc, Japanese yen, Mexican pesos and Venezuelan bolivar exchanged for convertible pesos without any charge and with reference to the exchange rate against the dollar. It is also possible to exchange convertible currency for CUC and vice versa in hotels and in airports. There are money exchange offices (CADECA) in the major cities in the country which exchange foreign currency for convertible pesos. REGULATIONS • Visitors entering Cuba must show a valid passport issued to his/her name and a visa or tourist card, except in the case of countries that have subscribed a visa exemption agreement with Cuba.
• Travelers may take out from the country up to 50 units of hand-rolled cigars without having to present any documentation. Larger amounts of cigars may be exported, provided they are packed in their original container, closed and sealed with the official hologram, accrediting the legal purchase of the cigars with a document or sales invoice issued by outlets authorized to sell Cuban cigars. • Customs regulations prohibit the entry of pornographic material, live animals and fire arms, with the exception of fire arms used for sports hunting authorized by the relevant tourist entity in charge of this type of activity. • The export of works of art, antiques and other legally protected cultural goods is allowed with the required documentation issued by the relevant institutions and accredited with a sales invoice. • The maximum value of other exported goods is one thousand dollars; handcrafts do not require any type of documentation for export. • Possession, consumption and trafficking of illegal drugs, narcotics, psychotropic drugs or other substances with similar effects will be severely punished. • Travelers must have a travel insurance that includes medical expenses or a medical insurance policy with coverage in Cuba.
