Balkrishna Karande, DTM I always played or watched cricket till I watched FIFA live. After watching an amazing Football game, we were astonished. This was the first time we watched any sport event live at the stadium. We were lucky to watch FIFA at three beautiful stadiums. My wife was consistently asking me to apply for FIFA tickets. I was reluctant to apply. Finally, I applied during the Third stage of FIFA round tickets. We were lucky to get three matches tickets at Thumama, Education City and Al Bait stadium.

While travelling via the beautiful Metro and watching fans at the stadium, we learned one important thing from them. Live for your passion, support your likings and enjoy life up to its full potential. While watching matches, we feel like we are at the different world. We would like to thank you to this beautiful country State of Qatar for providing us life time opportunity to witness and enjoy these FIFA matches! Truly, Balkrishna and Sangeeta Karande

"Look who we are, we are the dreamers We make it happen 'cause we believe it." FIFA was Qatar's big Dream and the whole world had their eyes on it… and look they made it happen. Feeling the same as a VPE of Marathi Toastmasters Club. We as a team had a dream to take Marathi Toastmasters Club to its new benchmarks. And for this each one has contributed to the journey. We had a successful open house which has brought our membership strength to good numbers. We have managed to achieve the maximum of our DCP goals…thanks to all my members for the support towards achieving it. Our VPPR Madhuri Borgave has won the PR poster award for consecutive 3 times in the row keeping the Flag High. We also won a wondrous Promo award.

Little by little and step by step we are moving forward to mark our presence in area division and district 116. We are now looking forward to the annual Speech contest which is soon to be commenced. As a team we are all making sure we help each other grow in public speaking and helping new members to grow. We are one of those enthusiastic and energetic club who is always ready to do something out of the box which makes us talk of the town. As a VPE I try to bring out the best in everyone. I have been identifying the potential of members and make sure they use their strength to help them grow in public speaking. I am also having great experience mentoring my mentees. Taking them as my baby. I like to train them and groom them in all aspects. They too have shown great interest and are ready to explore. It's a great feeling. I encourage all my members to put your Speaking Gears You're a good soldier, choosing your battles Pick yourself up and dust yourself off, get back in the saddle You're on the frontline, everyone's watching You know it's serious, we're getting closer, this isn't over The pressure's on, you feel it But you got it all, believe it When you fall get up, oh, oh And if you fall get up, cause it's time for the Annual Speech Contest. My best wishes to each one of you. Regards Manjiri Dahale Vice President Education

Ravikeerti Patil VP-Membership Resilience It was Nov 2012, Summer was around the corner - yes, I was in Melbourne office, Australia which is in southern hemisphere. I was getting some work done and looking forward for a Diwali celebration that evening. Just before 5pm, I was invited to a meeting room. And… And…my association of 5 years with the company had come to an abrupt end. What a pity! I was let go. I went blank for a moment and then many things flashed in front of my eyes, family, home loan, ongoing expenses, my career, and future etc. It took some time to come to terms with the reality, that I was no longer in workforce.

After all formalities, I put a brave face, called my wife, and said “Darling, you will have a house help for the next few months” and continued with Diwali celebration as planned that evening at friend’s place. I made sure that none of them will have any clue of my termination. The unemployment period was testing my ability to withstand adversity. I was striving to bounce back by every means. I kept myself busy with job search as well as helping wife at home. I pretended to be working from home for my son for a few months and in the process, I realised that – this was not an end, there was a life outside office. – As a family we spent quality time together. – Opportunity to step back, introspect and learn new skills which I did by enrolling into online courses. Important lesson – family support and enough savings make your life bearable through lean phase. We were improving on a trait – a capacity to recover from difficult events - Resilience. It was a new beginning. After few months, we all relocated to Saudi Arabia and then to Qatar in 2015. First week of November 2016, around 4:30pm, I was summoned to the board room and advised that my services are no longer required. It came as a Total shocker. I was speechless. All my actions were mechanical as if I was in trance until I reached home. While sharing this news to my wife, a brave face came off, my vision was blurred. It was second day of Diwali, what a strange coincidence! I retracted myself into a shell for the next couple of days. We all went through a lot of mental stress, trauma, felt anguished, but we believed that this too shall pass. We had no time to lament on the past events. Within a month, left behind the lavish and luxury life and shifted to India. The following month, I returned to Qatar. Staying away from family was a herculean task but we managed it successfully. You may wonder how? Flexibility, adaptability, and perseverance helped us to tap into our resilience by changing certain thoughts and behaviours. It gave us the emotional strength to cope with trauma, adversity, and hardship. If you went through a real bad experience, it is good experience, these are invaluable. Smart people know what they want but wise people know what they don’t want. I determined that I did not want to land up in such situation again. It would be my TIME, my DECISION, and my CHOICE whether to continue or quit the job. In 2019, started working Saudi and then Covid-19 happened in early 2020. Pune was one of the major hotspots during the first wave, I was very worried about the wellbeing of my family. Flights were suspended and only option was to take a repatriation flight back home. It was only possible if I was returning for good. My TIME had come, to take a DECISION, to make a CHOICE between family and job. I resigned and returned to India in September 2020. This time, the Diwali celebration was delightful. Third time lucky! Developing resilience is both complex and personal. It involves a combination of inner strengths and outer resources. It empowered us to accept and adopt to a situation and move forward. Resilience isn’t a fixed trait though, it keeps evolving. The more challenges you face, the more resilient you become. There are always good times followed by bad times and then again good times, it is a time cycle. The time is your ally and if nothing else, just hang in there and remember, this too shall pass.

Atul Hardas "Believe in yourself" We all residence of Qatar recently experienced exciting, enthralling and entertaining FIFA 2022 held in Qatar. Myself and family attended 5 matches in different stadiums. This was the first time we attended FIFA world cup matches. In those 28days every residence was charged due to long awaited opportunity for watching live FIFA matches on stadium. In last 12 years, Qatar built 8 International Football stadiums, Metro, Roads and various infrastructure projects for smooth organization of FIFA. It was beyond imagination to organize FIFA world cup matches in a small country like Qatar. But, Emir of Qatar believe in himself and the dream came true. Whole world congratulated Emir of Qatar for setting up new standards for organizing FIFA world cup. In last 12 years many hands came together, worked day and night to achieve this goal. All were believing in themselves, that is the reason FIFA 2022 was different. In final exciting match Argentina under leadership of Lionel Messi defeated France in Penalty shoot by 4-2 goals. Every player of Argentina believed in themselves. This belief made Argentina FIFA 2022 world champion. Today I can only say, "Believing in yourself is the secret of success"

Namrata Tawde The Journey begins with the first step… Who we are, We are the Dreamer, We make it happen…. Dream Bigger, The FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 was an amazing experience and a proud moment to be one of those 20000 incredible volunteers. 29 days, 64 matches, 8 spectacular stadiums and entertainment, entertainment and only entertainment, having fan zone activities displaying cultural programs, games, and adventures for lifetime memories. I feel fortunate to serve and witness, in the form of volunteer service. My journey as a volunteer started on 10th November at Lusail Stadium. A team of 20 volunteers from different nationalities. The valuable time spend by serving as FIFA volunteer was precious. The respect earned from all communities was amazing. The gifts received as tokens of love, the friendship which will last forever, what more can we expect? Thanks to all who made it happen and congratulation on the dream come true and wishes for many more successful events which are lineup in Qatar.

Vidhya Mogare In November 2022, Qatar completely transformed as the country opened up to host the biggest sporting event on the globe, the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™. As a sea of fans painted the streets of Doha in their country’s colours, me as an Indian Expat living in Qatar was lucky to get the chance to be a part of this historic and unmissable event! It is only fair to say that host nation Qatar, a geographically small country with large influence, has already won the hearts of fans, despite the relentless criticism it has faced, especially from the West. Doha is home to many nationalities, with native Qataris making up only 15% of the population. I am an fortunate Expat who arrived just 3 years before this big event and was lucky enough to attend 4 matches live in the stadiums. Fifa World Cup Qatar 2022 is now well under way in Doha and has already offered a number of thrilling moments to one and all. The World Cup has become both a sporting event and a global cultural festival. During my first match in Doha, I saw connections form between rival fans inside and outside the stadium, in addition to nationals flocking from all over the world to celebrate their heritage through song, food and dance. It is also a rare moment to see many international fans in one city for a limited amount of time. Stepping outside my comfort zone, I am trying to exchange my experiences with others, even if some things are lost in translation. It is these moments that will stay with me long after the final ball is kicked. Cricket is still going to be my game…but this one getting interesting as well! The more you follow…the more you like it! 80000+ fans and unlimited excitements, fun and a real game experience! It was feast to eyes seeing Messi and Ronaldo play for their respecting teams. Just few more days before we have a new world champion but it’s been amazing so far! Basking in the unmatchable atmosphere of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™, I can truly say this was an extremely pleasant experience for me and my family and really looking forward to many such world class events that will be happening in Qatar! We’re all here united and it’s a great time to be here! This year we all had such a fever in Qatar ,that gave us happiness and smile in our face , generally fever means sickness. Vaishali Suresh Today When I went to corniche, I saw a flock of birds came there. It was very nice to see so many birds. They came down, took bath, chirped, danced...after some time when they got their food...and they flew to the different directions from where they have come from. I was looking at those birds, when they came, they were bit separate. But while going away, though their directions were different...they were flying closer...there was some connection built up in them. This scene reminded me the day of farewell to my girls in The Unaccompanied Afghan Kids Refuge Centre...Yes you read it rightly, “my Girls”. Since several years I have been volunteering for many cultural and no-cultural activities, but my recent experience of volunteering with Qatar Charity for MOFA and UNICEF was very critical and lesson learning. You must be aware that there were more than 600 people evacuated from Afghanistan and were sheltering in Qatar until their transit period. This was inclusive of more than 300 unaccompanied minor kids. When we meet these kids’, things were different, they were terrified, suffering from anxiety, psychological problems and other health issues. They have faced terrified situation in their country due to war front. Many of them have lost their families or parted from their families, some were badly injured in the explosions or shootings; some don’t know the whereabouts of their family members. Each child had their unique story to tell. Their mental health was at stake, in a moment they look so happy but suddenly their mood swings and they become very offensive, wild and uncontrollable. As a volunteer, I was supervising 9 girls of Villa No. B-125, I was tensed, didn’t knew how I will handle them. Our Culture were different, our languages different as they knew only Farsi or Pashto. But someone rightly said when you speak thru your kind heart there is no barrier of any language or any culture just soul to soul communication will connect you with each other. Volunteering is not only about the time but also about the heart. A willing heart is the greatest gift for all. With this thought, we were able to build bridge between us and have passed those hurdles. We cried together, we laughed together, we argued more, many times we had big fights. We have exchanged all the sheds of emotion. One day we didn’t even realize that when we have come so close to each other and became one family. Villa No. B-125 become my world, and I feel so proud and content, these girls started calling me Mumma. Yes, now I am not only mother of Siddhi but proudly I can say I have at least 10 daughters. I feel like I have created a great piece of art. Their love, their affection made me humbler, their fighting nature against all the odds and caring hearts made me understand that you can win against your own battles if you hold strong fighter spirit. One thing was common in these kids that is their love for their country which made them united, despite of their own problems and differences they were standing as one and supporting each other in every situation. Then the day came when these little birds had to fly to their destination as their transit period was finished. They have to move on to their further journey, the destination they had dreamed every night where they can settle in peace and harmony, where they could continue their further study, achieve their future goals which might help them someday to get connected with their loved ones. We all were happy that all these children finally found their home but why all of us had tears in our eyes??? Why there was fear of separation, anxiety, excitement. This day was to celebrate but exactly what was stopping all of us? ‘The Bond’, yes, it’s the bond we have created in those 75 days which was making this separation difficult. The excitement and contentment were flowing on our faces as we had successfully completed our project of Qatar Government and UNICEF by helping these kids in transit until they found their destined place where their future belongs to. All officials of Qatar Charity, MOFA, UN, UNICEF, IMO and we the volunteers were very happy but at the same time we all were whipping from inside. our feelings can’t be expressed in words. Sometimes throat was choking, sometimes voice was broking because our connected hearts were separating. I don’t know why Life is always like this, it brings unknown together, creates bonds and one day we get separated. This way we said goodbye with a silent prayer for their smooth sailing ahead and a path full of joy and happiness with the hope of all their dreams may come true in the future!!! This volunteering experience pitched me on helping the community as it is the major stronghold. This help in building its own culture and a community which may reflect and foster the togetherness and demonstrate progress towards measurable community goals. I urge all our community members and specially students to do community service for the society that they live in. There is no self-satisfaction to see that you were the reason behind those smiling faces.
