RGNIYD RGNIYD is an Institution of National Importance by the Act of Parliament No. 35/2012 under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India. The RGNIYD was set up in 1993 under the Societies Registration Act, XXVII of 1975. The RGNIYD functions as a vital resource centre with its multi-faceted functions of offering academic programmes at Post Graduate level encompassing various dimensions of youth development, engaging in seminal research in the vital areas of youth development and coordinating Training Programmes for state agencies and the officials of youth organisation, besides the Extension and Outreach initiatives across the country. The Institute functions as a think-tank of the Ministry and premier organization of youth-related activities in the country. The Institute is a nodal agency for training the youth as a facilitator of youth development activities in rural, urban as also tribal areas. The institute boasts of a wide network with various organizations working for the welfare and development of young people and serves as a mentor.

From the Director’s Desk Dr. Sibnath Deb The Indispensability of a Department of English to any educational Institute is a fact little-challenged. When the Department was established in 2021, in RGNIYD, I successfully brought to fruition, one of my visions for this Institute, the establishment of a Centre of Excellence in Literary Studies. I am happy to share that it is one of most active Departments in the Institute, in terms of outreach and academic activities. The number of programs organized by the department, along with the dynamic and effective student-teacher relationship in the Department, which were all achieved in a short period of 17 months, is indeed commendable. The inception of an inclusive curriculum, which addresses the recent trends and developments in the literary world, and envisages adapting to the mould set by NEP 2020, are noteworthy endeavors undertaken by the Department. The occurrence of Special Orientation Programs and Workshops, where Industry Experts are invited and students are informed about various job opportunities in different industries, only adds to my elation. The internship opportunity is one such endeavor, which facilitates the students to come in close contact with the industry and the corporate world. The leadership group in the Department plays a vital role in mentoring the students of the Department in achieving their desired career objectives. I also inform the prospective employers that all students graduating from this department would be valuable assets in whichever industry they decide to invest their future. Their presence in the wider world will only add to enhance the vast potential that the youth of India promises.

The Head Speaketh

The Department of English, RGNIYD, was established in 2021, with the sole motto of setting up a centre of excellence for English literary deliberations. The students were acquainted with the recent literary trends and, at the same time, they were familiarized with the traditional past of English Literature. Career Counseling and Mentoring formed important elements of the two-year M.A. English curriculum at RGNIYD. The students were consistently encouraged to explore their opportunities, in terms of their future endeavours. The 2021-23 is a very special batch for me, both at a personal and professional level. I have been working in very close quarters with them over the last 18 months and they have been nothing short of impressive. A small class size of 14 has also aided the process. All of them are extremely talented and mostly dedicated to the task at hand. Beyond this, they are good and honest human beings, which is an indispensable quality in any scenario. This enables them to be exquisite assets for any company or industry they join. I wish them all the success for the ensuing placement activities and am quite confident that they will perform quite well. Lots of Love Dr. Kaustuv Chakraborti
