Sinopsis

El “caffè sospeso” es una costumbre donde los habitués pagan su café primero y dejan otro pagado en concepto de “pendiente” ofrecido para quien no lo pueda pagar. Este gesto, que nació entre los obreros napolitanos de inicio del s. xx, fue durante años el símbolo de un mundo antiguo perdido. Sin embargo esta costumbre aletargada despertó en el 2008 como consecuencia de la crisis económica. Tres ciudades: Buenos Aires, Nueva York y Nápoles; tres culturas, nueve historias, y un mismo gesto que se resiste a desaparecer: La solidaridad.

Synopsis

“Suspended coffee” is a custom where the habitués pays their coffee and leave another coffee paid as “pending”, offered for those who can’t to pay it. This gesture, born with Neapolitan workers starting s. xx, was the symbol of a lost ancient world for years. However this dormant practice awakened in 2008 due to the economic crisis. Three cities: Buenos Aires, New York and Naples; three cultures, nine stories, and the same gesture that refuses disappear: the solidarity.

Cuando mi abuela era niña, cruzó un bosque repleto de osos, bajo un cielo de aviones militares, escapando de la servidumbre a la que la exponía su padrino. Años después decidió estudiar costura y cruzar el mar sola hacia Buenos Aires. Una tarde de 2015, después de encontrar en internet que su pueblo en ruinas ha sido puesto a la venta, le pido que me enseñe a coser. Mientras fabricamos un abrigo rojo con capucha, discutimos las historias de nuestro género y clase, mientras mis recuerdos pixelados de infancia y una visita a España atraviesan de a puntadas la película.

Synopsis

When my grandmother was a girl, she went through a bear-packed forest, under a sky full of warplanes, escaping the servitude her stepfather exposed her to. Years later, she decided to study dressmaking and cross the sea alone to Buenos Aires. One afternoon in 2015, after finding in the internet that her ruined town has been put for sale, I ask her to teach me to sew. While we produce a red hooded coat, we discuss our gender’s and our social class’ stories, while my pixelated childhood memories and a visit to Spain go through the film like stitches.

The highlands have their own Hollywood. In the town of the Alto in the city of La Paz in Bolivia something amazing is happening . This phenomenon is becoming known as Chollywood , a cinema of Cholas* born within the Aymara and Quechua culture of Bolivia . An underground, pirate cinema sold for three pesos in popular fairs. In the Patagonia Argentina , every year in October , Burgos and fourteen workers travel for four months in an old truck for shearing sheeps in the fields of the area. After the death of his father, Eduardo Crespo embarks on a journey to film a movie as they would do together. A film about Crespo, the town where they come from, poultry farming, and the relationship the father and son used to have. Now that the main character is no longer there, the film travels around the same places. Xiaobin recently arrived in Argentina from China. She tries on names in Spanish as if she were trying on costumes, to see which suits her. She tries out new gestures and hairstyles to give her new role a body. She speaks the language although she doesn’t master it until she has convinced herself about her speech. Meanwhile, she uses the film as a rehearsal room to try out her future in Buenos Aires.

El botánico francés Amado Bonpland fue secuestrado en 1821 por el autoritario gobernador de Paraguay, Gaspar Rodríguez de Francia, por pretender estudiar los secretos del cultivo de yerba mate. Simón Bolívar y la comunidad científica europea encaran una campaña para rescatarlo. Sin embargo, al ser liberado, Bonpland no quiso irse: se había enamorado de esa cálida y misteriosa tierra. Hoy, la yerba mate es consumida diariamente por millones de personas en Argentina, Brasil, Paraguay y Uruguay.

Synopsis

The French botanist Bonpland Amado was kidnapped in 1821 by the authoritarian governor of Paraguay, Gaspar Rodriguez de Francia, who wanted to prevent the study of the secrets of the yerba mate. Simon Bolivar and the european scientific community started a campaign to rescue him. However, when he was released, Bonpland refused to return: he was attracted by this mysterious and warm earth. Today, the yerba mate is a infusion consumed daily by millions of people in Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay.

In 2000 I traveled with my grandfather to Spain, his native country. With a video recorded on super- VHS l remembered the places we visited and how our familyreceived us. But it reveals something else: during the trip something about the past wasn´t told. Not even the civil war or exile, or the truncated childhood or uprooting appear on that tape. In 1878 the Ranqueles and the Argentine Government signed a peace agreement. A year later the government betrayed it, killing 2500 indigenous and enslaving more than 14000. The documentary tells about the current days of the descendants of those Ranqueles, they reside now along the whole province of La Pampa. En el Norte de Argentina se encuentra Jujuy, lugar desértico y montañoso, habitado por comunidades originarias caracterizadas por su folclore y tradiciones populares. Allí contrastan los metaleros y su estilo de vida, por el que luchan día a día para mantenerlo y hacerlo posible. En sus vivencias confluyen la diversidad cultural entre lo occidental y originario, lo cual se desarrolla a medida que un grupo de metaleros organizan un gran recital de bandas locales, que será el primero de esta magnitud.

In northern Argentina is found Jujuy, a desert and mountainous province, inhabited by indigenous communities characterized by their folklore and traditions. There, metalheads and their lifestyle stand out, which for they are struggling every day to keep it alive and make it happen. Este hallazgo desencadena una accidentada búsqueda de los integrantes de la orquesta, personajes, en la mayoría de los casos, igual de olvidados que las partituras. “La gran orquesta” habla de una formación mítica de Buenos Aires pero también de las formas metaficcionales de la memoria y de la fábula en el hecho evocativo del recuerdo a raíz del encuentro con archivos huérfanos como pasajes hacia un relato irremediablemente personal y subjetivo.

An old trunk resting on a pile of rubble. In it, 2000 handwritten music sheets of the “Hector and his jazz” Big band (1944). This finding triggers a rough search of the members of the orchestra, these characters in most cases, equally forgotten as the music sheets. The great orchestra speaks of a mythical formation of Buenos Aires, but also of the meta-fictional shape of memories and of the fable of the evocative memory, made by the finding of orphaned files as passages to a story, inevitably personal and subjective.

Pristine Poles tells the story of two contemporary families who descend from ancestral cultures and are geographically located opposite to each other. “Mi Barrio Latinoamericano Tres voces, tres historias, un barrio”, romperá con los esquemas estéticos y argumentales establecidos por el típico programa de turismo usado desde hace años. El objetivo es darle la palabra y la cámara a los representantes de la región, portadores de voz, y protagonistas de diversas historias. Con ese fin, nos instalaremos a documentar ese lugar, buscando captar sus ruidos y silencios, costumbres e historias, y los relatos de sus protagonistas.

Synopsis

Three voices, three stories, a neighborhood. will break with aesthetic and plot schemes established by the typical used tourism program tv for years. The aim is to give the word to people of of the region, voice carriers, and actors of different stories. To that end, we will install the camera to document this place, seeking to capture their noises and silences, customs and stories, and the stories of its protagonists.

“Monger” is an English term that refers to any individual who likes to generate socially forbidden acts. The characters in this film are mongers and define themselves as such. But in all those years, the group is no longer what it was and Francisco doesn’t know what to show in his film, if the story of these people or his own story, the story of a name that weighs him and a family that cause him pain as well as joys. This, perhaps, is his “beginning of things”.

After the 1973 coup d’état, Chileans émigré artists and film personnel collaborated with the East German production company DEFA in more than fifty films, material which dealt with life in exile and criticized the Latin American dictatorships and whose existence is unfamiliar in Latin America to this day. This documentary explores the stories behind the films, and shows that viewing this historical film material stimulates audiences in Chile, Argentina, Mexico and Germany to connect the past events to present-day life in their countries.

In Buenos Aires a group of artists elaborates a sound work of art based on the brutal air bombing suffered by the city in June 1955. The film captures their work while the filmmaker, inspired by the films of Chris Marker and Jonas Mekas, reflects about politics and violence from a intimate and personal perspective, ranging from the so called “desert conquist” at the end of the 19th century, to the last militar dictatorship, including also the Second World War and the atomic bombs over Hiroshima and Nagasaki. 40
