"Based upon "Christian Healing Ministries' School of Healing Prayer". These teachings begin with the Scriptural Foundations for Healing and the History of Healing in the Church, and how the Gifts of the Holy Spirit are related to healing prayer. A sample of other topics include: Healing Our Image of God, Praying for Physical Healing, Introduction to Inner Healing and The Healing Power of Forgiveness. Historically, it is simply not true that healing ceased with the apostles. These teachings are remarkable. You do not need to feel called to a healing ministry to attend. Some people may feel led in that way, but it is not necessary. Whether you are just interested in information, or you are looking for an experience that can change your life as well as others, the Lord provides generously. Corpus Christi Catholic Church - Parish Hall, 2350 Augusta Hwy, Lexington, SC 29072 LEVEL I - AUGUST 13-16, 2015 /LEVEL II - NOVEMBER 1215, 2015 9 am to 7 pm Thur. through Sat; 9 am to 12:30pm Sun Deacon Jack and Sharon Crocker will facilitate "Praying With Others". CAMP AWESOME It's going to be a busy week in youth ministry this week! School is quickly approaching but instead of spending the last few precious days of vacation sleeping in, our youth will be waking up early and working with children who are underprivileged. 3 years ago our teens were asked by the "Show Them We Care Foundation" to run a camp for other kids that don't get the same opportunities they do. Our youth stepped right up to the challenge and started a camp with the mantra of St. Francis of Assisi. "Preach the gospel always when absolutely necessary use words" We get together each morning at 9:00 to begin our day with prayer. We then head to camp which is just a short distance from the church. Once we are in the neighborhood we spend 3 hours singing songs, playing games, making crafts, and just enjoying the blessings of love and friendship. The foundation has told us numerous times that they have never had a group that the children have responded so well to. The children loved the camp so much that the first year we were there they named the camp "Camp Awesome!!!" This camp has become a youth favorite. At the end of each year when we review our youth group year Camp Awesome is always at the top of the list of favorite activities!!! Aside from our summer camp our teens also spend one day during Christmas break and every Good Friday doing a camp for the kids. Camp Awesome has taken on a life of it's own and become a wonderful tradition of service for our teens. I may be a little biased but I thought you all should know how great OLH teens are!! We have so much to be proud of!! OLH YOUTH ROCK!!! Please keep us in your prayers this coming week.

Saints Class Where: Family Life Center Library When: starts in September, after Labor Day, Thursdays, 2:00PM 3:30PM Instructor/coordinator: Rachel Godwin We are pleased to announce that we will be having a weekly class devoted to the in-depth study of Catholic saints. This class is solely for mature Catholic adults. No book is required for this class. The issues which the saints had to address were often very similar to those of modern-day Catholics. We will discuss the lives of the saints; how to apply lessons from their lives to our own; and the resources which the Church makes available to Catholics in addressing modernday issues. We will also cover the historical context - where applicable. Objectives: 1 - to give parishioners an in-depth look at the saints - their lives and struggles; 2 - to give class members options in prayer life; 3 - to learn to discern between good Catholic practices and superstition; 4 - to learn more about the resources which the Catholic Church offers to people who need comfort and guidance in times of stress or when tragedy strikes. We will be studying archangels Saints Michael, Gabriel, Uriel and Raphael; Saint Francis of Assisi, Saint Thomas More, Saint Monica, Saint Augustine, Saint Francis de Sales and Saint Pope John Paul II. For information, contact Rachel Godwin, email: [email protected], telephone: 803 750-9777 (leave a message if no immediate answer)

WELCOME – OUR NEW PAROCHIAL VICAR

Father John Francis Murray, C.Ss.R. I was born in Flushing, Queens, N.Y.C. I attended St. Andrew Catholic Grade School and Flushing High School. When I was 21 years old I moved to Connecticut and joined the business world. I soon became a sales manager for a growing company. From that point on, everything else is history, I entered the Redemptorist Seminary in Suffield Connecticut in 1985 and eventually sold my house and gave away all my belongings. God continues to bless me in so many ways, I am truly grateful! I professed first my First Vows (poverty, chastity, obedience) in 1988 and my Final Vows in 1991. I received my Bachelors Degree in Philosophy from St. Alphonsus College, Suffield Connecticut in 1989 1. Dear Parishioners of Our Lady of the Hills, This weekend the Redemptorists begin their ministry with you as they assume pastoral care for your parish. We are happy to be with you. You may have noticed that all Redemptorists have four letters after their names – C.Ss.R. This stands for Congregatio Sanctissimi Redemptoris. This is the official Latin title given to our Religious Community. It can be translated into English as “Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer,” more commonly called “Redemptorists.” On our coat of arms seen in the picture above, is a quote from Psalm 130, verse 7: Copiosa Apud Eum Redemptio – With Him There Is Plentiful Redemption. According to our rule, Redemptorists are “to strive to imitate the virtues and examples of Jesus Christ, Our Redeemer, consecrating themselves especially to the preaching of the word of God to the poor.” In 1732, St. Alphonsus founded the Redemptorists in the hills of Naples, Italy in a small village called Scala. It was to the poor shepherds and goat herders that St. Alphonsus preached. They didn’t want to know how to tend their flocks or fields; they wanted to know that God loved them! With that, the mission and purpose of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer took root. For 283 years Redemptorist missionaries have witnessed the love of Jesus the Redeemer throughout the world. The 5,300 Redemptorists today serve in 78 different countries. As missionaries, we first came to South Carolina in 1930 to the Parish of Holy Trinity and to Christ the King Chapel for the African American Catholics in Orangeburg County. We established mission churches in Holly Hill and Santee as well as in Barnwell, Bamberg, and Allendale Counties. We remained in Orangeburg until 1996 when Bishop Thompson asked us to provide pastoral care in Sumter. In 1940 Redemptorists served African American Catholics at St. Joseph's in Spartanburg until it closed in 1962 as the churches in Spartanburg were integrated. We established St. Gerard's in Aiken in 1946 and remained until 1967. The parish continues to this day. Bishop Thompson also asked the Redemptorists to establish St. Francis by the Sea Church in Hilton Head Island in 1984. We remained until 1997. As our commitment to serve in Sumter expired, Bishop Guglielmone, in dialogue with our Vice Provincial Superior, Fr. Glenn Parker, C.Ss.R, came to the decision that the Redemptorists would provide pastoral care for the parish of Our Lady of the Hills. We recognize that the Diocese of Charleston is still a mission diocese and our service at your parish is helping the Bishop fulfill his responsibility to provide pastoral care for all in the diocese. Our ministry among you is also an opportunity to invite you to enter more deeply into the ministry and mystery of redemption in the spirit of St. Alphonsus Liguori. We Redemptorists strive to live and proclaim the story of the cross and of Jesus Christ who loves us and has saved us as our Redeemer. “From his fullness we have all received, grace in place of grace.” (John 1:16) And in the beautiful words of the Easter Exultet proclamation, “What good would life have been to us, had Christ not come as our Redeemer?” May Mary our Mother of Perpetual Help watch over all of us and protect us always! Your brothers in Christ, Father John Francis Murray, C.Ss.R. Father Peter Sousa, C.Ss.R.

"ORDER OF CARMELITES DISCALCED SECULAR” 2016 Formation Classes will begin in January. If you are interested in inquiring about the Order of Carmelites Discalced Secular you are invited to visit the community from June to December of this year. This allows an acquaintance to be made before formation begins. The secular ("third" order is a community of lay persons who live according to the spirit of the Order of Discalced Carmelites, but who do not leave their secular state of life [that is, they continue to live fully their family life, and work in the world.] It is a requirement of the Order to visit the community for six months prior to beginning formation. Visitors are always welcome and visiting the community does not obligate you in anyway. We meet at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 809 Calhoun St., Columbia, SC, the 4th Sunday of every month from 1:30 pm to 5:00 pm, January through November. In December an Advent Day of Recollection is held on the 1st or 2nd Saturday in December, rather than the 4th Sunday. That date TBA. If you are Roman Catholic, over 18, participating fully in the sacramental life of the church, and think you may have a vocation with the Secular Discalced Carmelites, please contact us. If you have any questions or would like to request a brochure to be mailed or emailed to you with more information, please call Sharon Crocker at (803) 309-2480 or email [email protected]."

OPEN YOUR HEART AND HOME to a Catholic exchange student from Spain and Germany for the coming 2015-2016 school year

Volunteer host families (with or without children) as well as single parents are needed to provide food, a bed and a loving home for the coming school year, one or two semesters, starting in August. EMF students have medical insurance, spending money for their personal expenses and expect to share their host family’s daily life including household responsibilities. They speak English, are well-screened and eager to experience life in America. Their stay here is sponsored and supervised by EMF (Educational Merit Foundation), a non-profit, educational exchange program. It is not too late to apply. For more information on EMF students, please call Marie-Claude Dijoud now at 1-800-467-8363 or visit our web site at www.emfusa.org
