Professional Designation Programs

FFSI and AFSI Designations LOMA’s Fellow, Financial Services Institute (FFSI) 10-credit designation program provides broad contextual information through seven core courses and customized, job-specific learning through the FFSI’s unique Professional Achievement Credits (PACs). The FFSI’s seven “core” courses and three PACs provide a comprehensive study of the legal, economic, and business environment of financial services organizations and marketing of financial products to individuals and organizations. The requirement of three PACs provides the opportunity to customize the FFSI program for learners’ needs. PACs are credits granted by LOMA for demonstrated professional achievement in such financial services product areas as annuities, mutual funds/brokerages, retirement plans, and banking. Learners earn PACs by passing courses, obtaining licenses, or earning designations offered by LOMA and other organizations around the world. LOMA’s Associate, Financial Services Institute (AFSI) five-course designation provides recognition for a learner’s achievement in mastering the knowledge to reach the halfway point of the FFSI program requirements. Learners can take courses toward FFSI and AFSI designations in any order they choose, but LOMA recommends a course progression that begins with Level I.

Important Note about Discontinuing FFSI/AFSI LOMA is currently developing an exciting new program—the Fellow, Secure Retirement Institute (FSRI)— that reflects an increased focus within the industry on meeting customer needs for retirement planning and income. (See page 13 for more information.) The FSRI and the Associate, Secure Retirement Institute (ASRI) programs will eventually replace the FFSI and AFSI programs. Individual courses within the FFSI and AFSI programs will be phased out in 2014 and 2015, and the last opportunity for participants to earn the FFSI and AFSI designations will be December 31, 2015. However, LOMA will maintain recognition of the FFSI and AFSI designation programs on the LOMA website and in other publications and FFSI/AFSI designation holders will be encouraged to continue to use these designations indefinitely without restriction. We also encourage FFSI and AFSI designation holders to enhance their industry knowledge through participation in LOMA’s new retirement program, the Fellow, Secure Retirement Institute (FSRI). Three required courses in the FFSI program — LOMA 311, LOMA 335, and LOMA 357 — are also required in other LOMA programs, and will continue to be available. However, a learner who does not complete all courses required in the FFSI curriculum before December 31, 2015 will not qualify to earn the FFSI designation. In other words, a learner who completes the discontinued courses before the end of 2015 but still lacks one or more of the courses that are being continued (including PACs) will not be able to earn the FFSI designation. Some courses from the AFSI and FFSI programs can be used for credit in the new FSRI program. If you are just beginning your studies, consider whether courses in the new program would better meet your needs. If you have already completed some of the requirements for the AFSI or FFSI, take careful note of the course and program discontinuation dates and cross-credit opportunities before deciding which program to pursue.

Enrollments and Examinations

Enrollments and Examinations Many of LOMA’s courses are offered via Course Portals, an online resource from which learners access everything they need to study and prepare for the proctored examination. LOMA’s traditional designation courses teach industry topics using printed study materials and a proctored examination. A growing number of courses are now available in an online interactive format with modularized examinations built into the course.

materials for each course are listed in the “Course Descriptions” section, beginning on page 22. If you enroll for a bundled course delivered through a LOMA Course Portal, the assigned study materials are included in your enrollment and are accessible via the Course Portal. For a more complete description of your responsibilities as a student in LOMA’s professional designation programs, please refer to the “Professional Designation Programs” section on page 10.

Enrolling for and Accessing Course Materials for Courses Delivered through Course Portals

Your enrollment process will depend on the type of examination you choose to take: „„Paper exams — typically administered twice yearly on specified examination dates (see page 75) „„Computerized/I*STAR exams at your company „„Computerized/I*STAR exams at Prometric Testing Centers (available in the United States and Canada only)

Enrolling for courses delivered through Course Portals is easy. If you are not already registered in LOMANET, follow the instructions on page 66. Once registered, use your login ID and password to access LOMANET. Select the course and your exam type (I*STAR, Prometric, or paper) and desired exam period, and complete any additional steps concerning payment, etc. Once your enrollment is completed, click on “My Learning” in the selection menu. “My Learning” displays the course for which you’ve enrolled if your course provides access to online resources and study materials. Click on the course title, which launches your Course Portal in a new window. You will have access to the Course Portal through the exam period selected during the enrollment process. If you do not sit for your exam by the end of the exam period, you will need to purchase a fee transfer to change your exam period to a future period. If you are taking your exam at a Prometric Center, please see page 66 for full instructions on selecting an exam date and the process for purchasing fee transfers.

Enrolling For Exams and Bundled Courses LOMA requires proctored examinations for many of its professional designation courses. Exams are administered in LOMA member organizations and in independent testing locations. This section provides information about exam formats, enrollment procedures for both exams and bundled courses, and exam fees. LOMA exams vary in length from two–three hours. Consult your Test Preparation Guide (TPG) or see page 78 for specific information about the length of your exam. As new or revised LOMA courses are released, the number of examination questions for some course examinations may change. If you enroll for an examination, you are responsible for studying the correct assigned materials. The assigned study

I*STAR Exams I*STAR® (Individually Scheduled Test and Results) is LOMA’s Internet-based system for providing computerized exams. I*STAR testing is available to students at companies that have installed this testing system. Advantages of I*STAR include the convenience and flexibility of year-round testing, as well as immediate online grade reporting.

Enrolling for I*STAR Exams Before taking an I*STAR exam, you must be enrolled for the exam or the bundled course through LOMANET. When you enroll for either a bundled course that includes an I*STAR exam or an I*STAR exam for a non-bundled course, you must select the testing period during which you will sit for your exam. Testing periods are: January–March, April–June, July–September, and October–December.

66    1-800-ASK-LOMA (Option 1)

Important Information About I*STAR Enrollments, Fees, Cancellations, and Testing: „„I*STAR enrollments cannot be canceled. „„If you do not sit for your exam before the end of the

selected testing period, your enrollment expires and all exam fees are forfeited unless you purchase a fee transfer. „„Fees are nontransferable between paper and I*STAR exams unless you purchase a fee transfer. „„Your LOMANET ID and password will be required at the time of your I*STAR exam. „„Specific I*STAR procedures and room conditions are outlined for proctors in the I*STAR Certification Form available on LOMA’s Web site. If during the enrollment process you enroll for the wrong bundled course or exam or type of exam by mistake, you must contact LOMA within 72 hours of your enrollment to have the error corrected at no charge.

Prometric Exams You may also take computerized exams at Prometric Testing Centers throughout the United States and Canada. Prometric offers students the flexibility of taking exams after regular business hours and on Saturdays. If you are planning to take your exam at a Prometric Center, read the following section carefully.

Enrolling for Prometric Exams Follow these steps when enrolling for and scheduling an exam appointment at Prometric. 1. Register and enroll via LOMANET, www.lomanet.org, at least 48 hours before scheduling your exam appointment at Prometric. If you cannot access LOMANET, contact the Office of the Registrar at 1-800-ASK-LOMA (Option 1), or 770-984-3761, or via e-mail, [email protected]. 2. Select the testing period in which you would like to take your exam (January–March, April–June, July– September, or October–December). If more than one testing period is open for enrollment, you should select the testing period that allows you adequate time to study and prepare for your exam. 3. Submit payment for the Prometric examination fee (see page 72) to establish eligibility for one period of testing. You must sit for your exam during the testing period for which you are enrolled or purchase a fee transfer to transfer your enrollment to the next testing period. LOMA will not refund enrollment fees if you do not sit for your examination.

Enrollments and Examinations

4. Choose to receive an enrollment confirmation via e-mail, or print the “Enrollment Confirmation” screen that appears after submitting your enrollment. 5. After 48 hours, log on to www.2test.com or call 1-800-998-5662 to schedule an exam appointment at a Prometric Testing Center. Prometric appointments are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis, and seating is subject to availability. Appointments for the end of each quarter fill up quickly, so schedule as early as possible. 6. Arrive at the Prometric Testing Center 30 minutes before the scheduled appointment. In addition to your enrollment confirmation, bring 2 forms of ID bearing your name and signature, one of which MUST include a recent photo. Examples of valid forms of photo ID include: a passport, a driver’s license with photo and signature, a state ID card, and a military ID. In states where a photo is not included on the driver’s license, you may present an ID with a physical description. Acceptable forms of secondary ID include a credit card, an ATM card, or a citizenship card. Your name on the ID must exactly match the “Enrollment Confirmation.”

Grades for Prometric Exams Prometric will provide you with an unofficial grade report. Your official grade will be e-mailed to you within a day or two if you have selected the e-mail delivery option in LOMANET. You may also log onto LOMANET and view your official score under “Course History.” In Course History, you can also generate a chapter-by-chapter “Performance Report” indicating how well you did on each chapter of the assigned reading materials for the course.

Rescheduling, Fee Transfers, and Cancellation Policies for Prometric Exams Enrollments in LOMANET for exams delivered through Prometric may not be canceled for any reason. If you do not sit for your exam before the end of the testing period for which you enrolled, your enrollment expires and all exam fees are forfeited unless you purchase a fee transfer. Prometric appointments may be rescheduled without penalty if you reschedule your appointment 30 or more business days in advance of your scheduled test date within the testing quarter you have selected. If you reschedule your appointment two to 29 days before the scheduled test date there will be a $35 rescheduling fee payable to Prometric at the time you reschedule. The fee is payable by credit card only (Visa, MasterCard, or American Express) and you will be required to select your future appointment date at the time you reschedule. A rescheduling fee will be assessed each time you make any changes to your appointment within the two–29 day period before your currently scheduled test date. In the event that you reschedule your exam less than two days prior to the test or fail to appear, your exam fee will be forfeited. See below. Please note that Monday through Saturday are considered business days. Failure to reschedule more than two business days prior to your scheduled test date will result in a forfeiture of the $95 (U.S.) Prometric fee, and you will be required to pay this fee again to take your exam. To reschedule your appointment go to www.prometric.com/loma or call 1-800-998-5662. Prometric’s Automated Voice Response System is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Prometric Exam Rescheduling Requirements For each student who reschedules, arrives late or does not appear for a scheduled Test at a Prometric testing center, Prometric will charge the fees set forth in the table. Note that LOMA may also charge fees for these actions. Category

Enrollments and Examinations

If your rescheduled appointment is near the end of one of LOMA’s testing periods, you must also make sure your LOMANET enrollment is still valid for the rescheduled date. For example, if you enroll for one testing period on LOMANET, and want to reschedule your Prometric testing appointment to the next period, you must first log into LOMANET, purchase a fee transfer, and re-enroll for the exam in the next testing period. Note: Rescheduling your appointment with Prometric does NOT change your enrollment in LOMANET. Your enrollment will remain valid until the end of your current testing period. If you do not sit for your exam before the end of the testing period for which you enrolled, your enrollment expires and all exam fees are forfeited unless you purchase a fee transfer and enroll for the next exam period.

Paper Exams Paper exams are typically offered in May and/or November. The “Paper Exam Schedule” on page 75 indicates the exam dates and times. See “Key Dates” on the inside front cover for LOMA’s official enrollment deadlines for paper exams. Please note, your company’s enrollment deadlines may be earlier than LOMA’s official enrollment deadlines.

Enrolling for Paper Exams To enroll for a paper exam, or a bundled course that includes both the study materials and a paper exam enrollment, you enroll via LOMANET. Independent students may use the form available at www.loma.org. When enrolling, keep in mind that you cannot enroll „„for an exam scheduled on a day your company will be

closed, e.g., a national or company holiday „„for more than one exam scheduled on the same day at the same time LOMA does not limit the number of exams you may take in each testing period. You are the best person to determine the number of exams you can prepare for in one cycle.

Paper Exam Enrollment Deadlines Enrollments made by authorized member company students, independent students, and Ed Reps must meet the official LOMA deadlines listed on the inside front cover to avoid additional fees.

68    1-800-ASK-LOMA (Option 1)

Important Information about Paper Enrollments, Fees, and Cancellations „„Enrollments may not be canceled for any reason after

the official enrollment deadline. „„Fees are nontransferable between students or between courses. „„Switching courses without paying for the new course is prohibited. Credits and/or refunds will not be given for the course for which you initially enrolled.

Fee Transfers If you are unable to take a paper, I*STAR, or Prometric examination during the testing period in which you enrolled, or you wish to switch from paper to I*STAR or I*STAR to paper, you can purchase a fee transfer. Fee transfers may be purchased via LOMANET through the “Check Enrollment Status” function. If your exam period has expired and your score is a “DN” (did-not-sit), you may purchase a fee transfer from the “Course History” page in LOMANET. If you are unable to access LOMANET, you may request a form from LOMA’s Office of the Registrar, or download a form from www.loma.org. For paper exams, fee transfers must be purchased within seven months from the date the exam was scheduled to be taken. For I*STAR exams, fee transfers must be purchased within seven months from the end of the quarter for which the learner was enrolled.

Paper Exam Fee Transfers To apply a fee transfer to another exam or course enrollment period, you must re-enroll for the next paper exam testing period. Re-enrollment is not automatic. If you do not enroll for the next exam testing period, you forfeit the exam or course fees and the transfer fee.

Enrollments and Examinations

Exam Procedures & Regulations Except where noted, the following procedures apply to the administration of paper, I*STAR, and Prometric examinations: „„All paper exams must be taken according to LOMA’s

“Paper Exam Schedule.” (See page 75.) „„Plan to arrive at the exam site 30 minutes before your exam begins. You may be required to furnish photo ID when taking an exam. If you arrive after the scheduled starting time for your paper exam, the exam may not be accepted by LOMA for grading. „„“Official Exam/Proctor Instructions,” mailed along with examinations to all paper exam proctors, must be followed. „„Students may not consult, discuss, review, or in any way use anyone else’s answers or accept unauthorized assistance during the examination. Please note that LOMA uses specially designed software to detect possible cheating on LOMA exams. „„During the exam, students may not have in their possession any outside materials including, but not limited to, notes; textbooks; tables; charts; graphs; cell phones; pagers; Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs), e.g. Palm Pilots or BlackBerrys; or digital media players, e.g. iPods. „„Only calculators bearing the official LOMA logo are permitted in the exam room. The official LOMA calculator is sold through PBD Worldwide [PBD Order # CALC-01]. „„Additional procedures, regulations, and information are posted in both the Student Services and Ed Rep Resources sections of LOMA’s Web site at www.loma.org. „„Paper exam booklets must be returned to the proctors after the exam. The booklets will not be returned to students.

Violations of Exam Administration Procedures To protect the LOMA designations while ensuring the credibility and rights of organizations and individuals participating in LOMA Programs, a due process procedure is used when violations of standards governing exam administration are suspected. The due process procedure involves: 1. Determining the existence of a possible violation 2. Investigating the suspected violation 3. Communicating the findings and sanctions imposed, if any, to the affected parties

Individual Student Performance Analysis is now available for paper exams! Students taking paper exams can now view an analysis of their performance on each chapter of the assigned study materials. The Performance Analysis report is available in the Course History section of their LOMANET records following the posting of exam grades. Simply click on the LOMA course number of the exam taken, and then click on “Performance Report.”

Exam Grades – Online Interactive Courses LOMA’s online interactive courses include a series of short non-proctored exams, which are integrated with the course materials and do not require a separate exam enrollment. Courses delivered in the online interactive format include: „„ACS 101 „„SRI 131 „„LOMA 321 „„SRI 111 „„LOMA 281 „„AIRC 411 „„SRI 121 „„LOMA 291 „„AIRC 421 Successful completion of these courses requires a 70 percent score on all course tests; however, course credit for online interactive courses is recorded in LOMANET as a P (pass). If you do not successfully complete all course exams during your six month course access period, your score will be recorded as a DN (did-not-sit). You may review your grades for these courses under “Course History” in your LOMANET record.

Exam Grades – All Other Courses Numerical grades are available for courses that are not delivered in the online interactive format. The passing grade for all exams is 70 percent. Scores below 70 are listed only as F+ (within 10 points of passing) or F. If you do not take an exam by the end of the exam period for which you are enrolled, your score will be DN (did-not-sit). You can receive your grade via e-mail if you select that delivery option in your student record in LOMANET. You may also view your grades under “Course History” in your LOMANET record.

Regrade Policy You may request a regrade of your paper exam by submitting a request in writing within three months of the exam date. A fee of $50 (U.S.) is required to manually regrade your exam. Fees will be refunded if LOMA discovers any errors were made during the initial grading process.

The complete due process policy can be found on LOMA’s Web site at www.loma.org. www.loma.org  69

Exam Question Challenges

CE Credit

If you believe a question on a paper or I*STAR exam was misleading, unfair, or contained errors, you may submit an exam question challenge. Deadlines for submitting challenges for paper examinations are found on the inside front cover. Computerized exam challenges must be submitted within ten business days of the exam. Fax your challenge to 770‑984‑3742 or e-mail [email protected].

Life and health agent continuing education (CE) programs accept LOMA education courses as continuing education credit in most states and some provinces. CE credit is not submitted automatically; it must be requested upon completion of a LOMA course. To see a list of states and provinces that accept LOMA courses and to download a form to request CE credit, visit www.loma.org. Students may also submit requests for CE credit on LOMANET. A $35 (U.S.) fee per course is required.

Credit from Other Programs LOMA grants course credit for some other insurance-related designation programs. To see the complete list of approved credit and the request form, visit www.loma.org. Students may receive credit for up to three LOMA courses at $70 per course credit.

Awards You will receive a Certificate for successful completion of the FLMI and FFSI Level I courses (see pages 12 and 16). You will receive a diploma for completing any Associate, Professional, or Fellow designation. These awards will arrive approximately ten weeks after the last course is posted in LOMANET. Designations may be used immediately upon completing program requirements. The “Check Designation Progress” feature in LOMANET allows you to see which programs you have completed as well as track your progress toward a designation. Some designations may be earned Please note: “With Honors” and “With Distinction” were discontinued as of December 31, 2013. Replacement awards can be ordered for $35 (U.S.). To download a replacement award form, see www.loma.org.

LOMA Courses Toward Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees Many prestigious colleges and universities grant credit for LOMA courses, thus helping insurance and financial services professionals earn a degree more quickly and easily than ever before. For more information, visit www.loma.org. The National College Credit Recommendation Service (National CCRS) evaluates LOMA courses and recommends semester credit hours for each course. To see what courses have been evaluated by National CCRS and download a Transcript Request Form, visit www.loma.org.

70    1-800-ASK-LOMA (Option 1)

NOTE: LOMA monitors the frequency of customer requests for CE credit for its programs, and balances this demand against the administrative expense associated with complying with individual states’ requirements for their respective CE programs. As a result of declining demand and increasing administrative expense, LOMA has determined that it will not offer CE credit for its courses and programs after December 31, 2014. Students can continue to apply for and obtain CE credit for LOMA courses that are completed by December 31, 2014; however, because CE credit for select courses in some states may expire in the months leading up to the discontinuation date, please check the State Approval Chart, which is consistently updated, to ensure availability. Integrated. This is the total course fee. Examinations are integrated within the course materials and do not require separate payment. Bundled. The fee for a bundled course includes all online study materials and an exam enrollment; no separate purchase of study materials is required. Bundled courses are eligible for a $100 retake fee discount when a student re-enrolls within seven months after sitting for the original examination. For example, $90 is the LOMA 280 I*STAR retake fee for member company students who qualify for the retake discount. Some bundled courses also have a printed textbook available for an additional fee. LOMA 321 - Marketing in Financial Services is a new online, interactive course with an integrated exam that may be taken in place of LOMA 320. SRI 111, SRI 121, SRI 131, and SRI 210 are the first four courses in LOMA’s new Fellow, Secure Retirement Institute (FSRI) Program.

Certain exams administered in Canada, including those for independent students, are subject to a $20 (U.S.) per exam surcharge. This fee is in addition to the base exam fee and other applicable fees. The Canadian surcharge applies only to FLMI exams and the exams for ACS 100 and ACS 101. All exams administered in Canada are subject to the Canadian Goods and Services Tax (GST). The GST applies to the course/exam fee, the Canadian student surcharge, and any applicable Prometric Fees. LOMA does not collect the GST; Canadian companies and independent students must self-assess any liability they incur.

2

Enrollments received after paper enrollment deadlines require additional administrative processing; therefore, a late fee per student, per exam is charged. Late enrollment and missed deadline fees apply to paper exams only.

3

Transfer credit fees are fees for transferring pre-approved course credit from other industry educational programs to applicable LOMA designation program courses. The fee is a per-course fee charged at the time of application. For a transfer credit application, visit www.loma.org.

Course Enrollment Fees

Course Portals

Course enrollment fees are based on a company’s LOMA membership status, the type of exam delivery format, and the location where the exam will be administered. Participation in LOMA Education Programs or activities does not constitute LOMA membership, nor does it qualify an organization for member company rates. Fee exceptions for independent students are available online at www.loma.org.

The fee for courses offered via a Course Portal includes online access to study materials (textbook PDF and Test Preparation Guide) and enrollment in a proctored exam. See page 73 for additional fees that may apply.

The chart on page 72 shows the LOMA member and non-member course enrollment fees for each course and exam delivery format option for 2014. LOMA member and non-member companies will be invoiced for course enrollment fees. Independent students must pay fees at the time of enrollment. All fees are shown in U.S. dollars and must be paid in U.S. dollars by VISA, MasterCard, American Express, check, money order, or bank transfer. Fees are nontransferable between students and courses. After LOMA’s official enrollment deadline, paper enrollments may not be canceled. Fees are subject to change without notice.

Online Interactive Courses The fee for courses offered in the online interactive format includes access to all online study materials. Non-proctored exams are integrated within these courses, and are included in the course enrollment fees.

As a student, you are responsible for studying the correct materials assigned for the exam cycle during which you will take your exam. LOMA currently delivers study materials via published books, downloadable PDF files, in multimedia format using Course Portals, or online. New and revised course materials for many of the LOMA designation program courses will be published as downloadable PDF files via Course Portals. The PDFs typically are introduced in May or November.
