Hiawatha Community School Handbook & Calendar Hiawatha Campus/Howe Campus Manual y Calendario De La Escuela Comunitaria Hiawatha/Howe Dear Students and Families, Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year. This handbook is designed to help you find the answers to questions that you may have about programs and procedures at Hiawatha Community School - serving both Hiawatha and Howe Campuses. As a district our top priorities continue to be differentiated instruction and classroom engagement. We will continue to build relationships with students and assess each child’s individual learning needs. Our school theme for this year is Effort Creates Ability. Students, families and staff will be engaged through our learning with Growth Mindset. We will focus on these three areas: Taking on Challenges, Learning from our Mistakes, and Perseverance. We will continue to have classrooms where all students are engaged in learning opportunities where they will meet or exceed the high standards.
During the 2016-2017 school year, we will continue with establishing clear expectations for all students. Our teachers will continue to provide learning experiences and curriculum that are rigorous and are designed to meet and exceed the learning potential for all students. Our teachers have been meeting to plan for the upcoming school year. They have focused on developing strategies to accelerate student achievement in all academic areas. They have given time and effort to make sure that this school year is a successful one.
At Hiawatha Community School, we will strive to achieve our mission through the joint efforts of our teachers and families to provide clear expectations, a learning environment in which children feel welcome, safe, and empowered for academic success. We will also support the Minneapolis Public Schools’ vision of making every child college and work force ready. We look forward to an exciting year of learning together at Hiawatha Community School serving Hiawatha Campus and Howe Campus.
