3 Prayer is not something we are born knowing how to do. Perhaps as a child your parents or grandparents taught you how to pray or, maybe, you were never taught at all. Either way, it doesnÊt matter now. Today is a new day. Today you have a choice to say „Lord, Teach Me to Pray.‰ Even the disciples asked Jesus „⁄to teach us to pray⁄‰ because they witnessed Jesus praying (Luke 11:1-4). Prayer is something we must take the initiative to learn how to do. Participating in Mass we pray as a community when we pray the Prayers of the Faithful, Profession of Faith, the LordÊs Prayer, sing the Psalms and other prayers but, do we take time to pray on our own outside of Mass? This fall we have an opportunity for adult women to participate in „Lord, Teach Me to Pray‰. LTMTP introduces participants to practices developed by St. Ignatius structured around praying the Christian Virtues. This opportunity is for anyone seeking a more meaningful prayer life. There are not quizzes or memorizing and reciting scripture verses. There is not an assessment at the end of the session to see how much you learned. Lord, Teach Me to Pray (LTMTP) No nacemos sabiendo cómo orar. Quizás cuando éramos niños, padres o abuelos nos enseñaron cómo orar, quizás nunca se nos enseñó. Esto no importa ahora, hoy es un día nuevo, hoy tenés la oportunidad de decir „Dios ayúdame a orar‰. Hasta los discípulos le pidieron a Jesús que les enseñara a rezar porque ellos fueron testigos de Jesús rezando (Lucas 11 1-4) Para aprender a rezar necesitamos tomar la iniciativa. Al participar en misa, rezamos como una comunidad al rezar las oraciones de los fieles, la profesión de nuestra fe, el Padre nuestro, los cantos de los salmos y otras oraciones, pero œtomamos un tiempo fuera de la misa para orar? Éste otoño tenemos la oportunidad como mujeres adultas de participar en "Señor, enséñame a orar‰. Este grupo introduce a las participantes en prácticas desarrolladas por San Ignacio de Loyola estructuradas alrededor de las virtudes cristianas. One way that this appeal works to support home mission dioceses in the United States is by supporting seminarian formation in poor dioceses. The blessing of seminarians places a financial burden on these dioceses, because educating each seminarian costs $35-40K per year. Your support is needed for these young men so that they might go back and serve their parishes. Please strengthen the Church at home by making a generous gift to next weekÊs appeal. Many dioceses right here in the United States do not have enough priests and trained lay ministers to serve their parishes. These dioceses are known as home missions. The Catholic Home Missions Appeal, which will take place next weekend in the second collection, supports these dioceses by funding essential ministries, including seminary education and lay ministry training. Do you find it difficult to take time away for a retreat? The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola are a compilation of meditations, prayers, and contemplative practices to help people deepen their personal relationship with God. For centuries the Exercises were most commonly given as a „long retreat‰ of about 30 days in solitude and silence. Today the most common way of going through the Exercises is as a „retreat in daily life‰ (RIDL) which involves a longer program of daily prayer and meetings with a spiritual director. This form of retreat involves giving one hour each day to prayer and meeting with a small, facilitated group for 30 weekly sessions. In addition, each participant has 15 sessions with a spiritual director. A one-time materials fee of $25 includes book and weekly handouts. Monthly class fee is $70. Meeting twice a month with a spiritual director is $20 per session or $40 per month. RIDL is being offered again at SVDP STARTING ON October 4th.
