Aproximación a la rompedora esfera del TAG Heuer Carrera Heuer 01.

Este año ha sido realmente fructífero para TAG Heuer. La firma ha renovado una buena parte de su colección y ha mejorado tanto la estética como las prestaciones técnicas de sus principales referentes. La maison de St. Imier tenía en mente una estrategia muy clara para iniciar este nuevo lustro: revisar los elementos característicos de sus creaciones y tomarlos como punto de partida para establecer una mejor delimitación de toda su gama. Sin duda, lo ha hecho a lo grande. En lo alto del escalafón se sitúa el TAG Heuer Carrera, Heuer 01, cuyo mecanismo de manufactura representa la evolución del calibre

1887. Aquel movimiento, presentando en 2009 con ocasión del 150º aniversario de la marca, rendía tributo a una de las más notables contribuciones de su fundador, Edouard Heuer, quien inventó el piñón oscilante en 1887. Los diseñadores de la casa combinaron este piñón con una rueda de pilares para lograr que la función cronográfica arrancase en tan solo dos milésimas de segundo. Podríamos decir que ambos componentes trabajaban en tándem, como si se tratase de la transmisión de un automóvil: la rueda de pilares coordinaba el

arranque, la parada y la puesta a cero del cronógrafo, como una caja de cambios; mientras que el piñón oscilante hacía la función de un embrague. De remonte automático, este preciso calibre latía a 28.800 alternancias por minuto y ofrecía una reserva de marcha de 50 horas. Ahora, seis años después TAG Heuer se ha volcado en la construcción de un nuevo referente, el Calibre HEUER 01. A primera vista, se nota que la compañía ha confiado en el buen hacer de Jean-Claude Biver, que tantas alegrías ha dado a Hublot, otra de las marcas que forma parte del grupo LVMH. En 2014, el genio de la relojería contemporánea pasó a ocupar un cargo estratégico en la división relojera del holding, dando muchas y nuevas ideas a los responsables de TAG Heuer. Él lo

tenía claro desde el principio: diferenciarse es crear un nuevo movimiento propio. El resultado es un calibre desarrollado íntegramente en los talleres de la maison que rompe a nivel estético y técnico con lo ofrecido hasta ahora por la casa. El HEUER 01 conserva las 50 horas de reserva de marcha de su antecesor, sin embargo luce atrevido, inusual, con un aire depurado que permite ver los mandos del cronógrafo y el disco de fecha calado. En el fondo, destaca la rueda de pilares roja, un punto de anclaje visual fuerte; el puente del cronógrafo y la masa negra esqueletizadas. Por si fuera poco, el TAG Heuer Carrera, Heuer 01 cuenta con una caja de nueva generación. De acero, ligera y más resistente a los golpes, se ha fabricado de forma distinta, ya que no está hecha de una única pieza como ocurre tradicionalmente en TAG Heuer, sino que es una caja modular con 12 elementos distintos. Este diseño abre un amplísimo campo de posibilidades al combinar materiales, colores, tratamientos y acabados hasta el infinito. El conjunto se completa con una pulsera de caucho negro perforado que le da un look deportivo. TORRES

Aquaracer Otro de los estandartes de TAG Heuer es la colección Aquaracer, cuyas nuevas referencias también se han presentado durante el 2015. Por supuesto, la línea mantiene las cualidades de rendimiento de la gama, realzando una vez más su refinado carácter deportivo. Cada uno de los nuevos relojes es un verdadero instrumento de navegación, desarrollado para satisfacer los exigentes requisitos de los deportistas acuáticos profesionales, con una caja estanca hasta 300 metros, un bisel giratorio unidireccional con seis almenas para un agarre perfecto, una corona enroscada, esfera de cerámica a prueba de arañazos y marcadores luminiscentes de alta visibilidad. De entre todos los relojes, destaca el Aquaracer 300M Ceramic, cuyo nombre responde al material con el cual está hecho el bisel. Posee una caja de 43 mm y en general, podría decirse que a nivel estético constituye un paso natural para la marca, ya que permite al cliente salir de la rutina del acero y darle un toque de color y brillantez al reloj. Respecto a la maquinaria, es importante precisar que en su interior se encuentra el Calibre 16, es decir, un Valjoux 7750, un movimiento de remonte automático que late a 28.800 alternancias por hora (4Hz) y que dispone de una reserva de marcha de 42 horas. Indica las horas, los minutos y ofrece una ventanilla de fecha a las 3h. Además, cuenta con dos contadores cronográficos, uno para los minutos (a las 12h) y

otro para las horas (a las 6h). En este caso, TAG Heuer no recurre a uno de sus movimientos de manufactura, lo cual ayuda a contener el precio final del reloj. Formula 1 Otra de las colecciones que ha sido renovada es Formula 1, que desde su lanzamiento en 1986, se inspira en la tecnología de las carreras de automóviles. Las nuevas referencias presentan una imagen que rezuma determinación, adrenalina y coraje. En su diseño se han utilizado materiales de alto rendimiento y se han añadido elementos que recuerdan al mundo de la competición, como la escala taquimétrica en los cronógrafos, el diseño full back, los marcadores luminiscentes para mejorar la legibilidad o la corona a rosca con agarre fácil. De nuevo, la casa apuesta por movimientos automáticos modificados a partir de la base de un proveedor externo. Los dos F1 cronógrafo automático de 44 mm equipan el ya mencionado calibre 16, mientras que el F1 Calibre 6 de 41 mm monta un mecanismo ETA 2892 que late a una frecuencia de 28.800 a/h y ofrece una reserva de marcha de 44h.

This has been a truly fruitful year for TAG Heuer. The firm renewed a large part of its collection and improved both the aesthetics and the technical features of its major references. The maison of St. Imier had a very clear strategy in mind to start this new lustrum: refine the characteristic elements of its creations and use them as a starting point to establish a better definition of its entire range. And it did so in a big way. At the top of the ladder is the TAG Heuer Carrera, Heuer 01, whose mechanism represents the evolution of the calibre 1887. That movement, presented in 2009 on occasion of the brand s 150th anniversary, paid tribute to one of the most significant contributions made by its founder, Edouard Heuer, who invented the oscillating pinion in 1887. The in-house designers combined this pinion with a column wheel to make the chronograph function start in only two milliseconds. One could say that the two components work in tandem, as if it were an automobile transmission: the column wheel coordinated the stop, start and reset of the chronograph, like a gearbox, while the oscillating pinion acted like a clutch. Self-winding, this precise calibre beat at 28,000 vibrations per hour and provided a 50-hour power reserve Now, six years later, TAG Heuer has concentrated on building a new reference, the Calibre HEUER 01. At first glance, one can tell that the company relied on the expertise of Jean-Claude Biver, who has given so much joy to Hublot, another brand that is part of the LVMH Group. In 2014, the contemporary watchmaking genius came to occupy a strategic position in the holding s watch division, giving many new ideas to the heads of TAG Heuer. He had it clear from the start: to distinguish themselves, they needed to create a new movement of their own. The result is a calibre developed entirely in house which breaks away from the aesthetic and technical level offered so far by the firm. The HEUER 01 retains the 50-hour power reserve of its processor; however, it looks bold, unusual, with a refined air that lets you see the chronograph controls and the openworked date disc. On the case-back, one s eye is drawn to the red column wheel -a bold visual anchor-, the skeleton chronograph bridge and the black weight. If that weren't enough, the TAG Heuer Carrera Heuer 01 features a new-generation case. Made from steel, light and shock resistant, it is constructed differently, as it is not made from the single piece traditionally used by TAG Heuer, but is a modular case with 12 different components. This design opens up a huge range of possibilities, with an infinite combination of materials, colours, treatments and finishes. The watch is completed by a perforated black rubber strap giving it a sporty look. Aquaracer, sportier than ever Another TAG Heuer flagship is the

Aquaracer collection, the new references of which were also presented in 2015. Of course, the line retains the ranges performance qualities, once again enhancing its refined sportiness. Each new piece is a true navigation instrument, developed to meet the demanding requirements of professional water sports athletes. The watches feature a case which is water resistant to 300 metres, a unidirectional turning bezel with six studs for a perfect grip, a screw-in crown, a scratch resistant ceramic dial and high-visibility luminescent markers. Particularly noteworthy is the Aquaracer 300M Ceramic, which is named after the material of the bezel. It features a 43 mm case and, in general, one could say that aesthetically speaking it is a natural step for the brand, allowing customers to break the stainless steel routine and give a touch of colour and shine to the watch. In terms of its inner workings, it is important to note that it houses the Calibre 16, i.e., a Valjoux 7750, a self-winding movement that beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and features a 42-hour power reserve. It indicates hours and minutes and has a date window at 3 o clock. It also has two chronographic counters, one for minutes (at 12 o'clock) and another for hours (at 6 o clock). Pomellato nació gracias a la intuición de Pino Rabolini, heredero de una familia de orfebres provinente de Milán. Su estrategia fue muy inteligente, ya que supo darle valor a la tradición orfebre italiana para crear joyas acordes con las nuevas tendencias de la moda. El objetivo era claro: evitar que las piezas simbolizaran un estatus social y convertirlas en un complemento perfecto para cualquier prenda, a cualquier hora del día. Lo consiguió dándole el protagonismo al oro y a las piedras preciosas, cuya variedad de colores y cortes se ha convertido en la gran seña de identidad de la marca. Rabolini dirigió la compañía durante 30 años y a finales de los ‘90 entregó las riendas de la misma a un equipo de dirección externo. Pomellato came into being thanks to the intuition of Pino Rabolini, heir to a family of goldsmiths from Milan. His strategy was very intelligent he knew how to boost the value of the Italian goldsmith tradition to create jewellery in line with the day's trends. El reloj número 1 es el Navitimer World, provisto de un sistema de doble huso horario. Una segunda aguja central con la punta roja indica la hora en otro lugar del globo con una escala 42 horas, lo que permite saber de inmediato si es de día o de noche. En este caso, el nombre de las principales ciudades del mundo, algo característico en relojes que equipan esta función, está grabado en el fondo de la caja (realizada en acero; 46 mm de diámetro). En su interior late el Calibre B24, que tiene una frecuencia de 28.800 a/h y ofrece una reserva de marcha de 24 horas, además de poseer la función cronógrafo y una ventanilla para la fecha a las 3h. Por si fuera poco, el bisel giratorio bidireccional completa la regla de cálculo formada junto a las escalas interiores de la esfera, que permiten obtener datos taquimétricos y telemétricos. Su magnífica correa de piel azul combina con la esfera, del mismo color y en acabado mate soleil. La referencia número 2 corresponde al Transocean Chronograph Unitime, presentado en Baselworld 2012. La gran particularidad de este modelo residía en su capacidad para armonizar el ajuste del doble huso horario con la indicación calendario. Lo hacía de la siguiente manera: en la zona perimetral de la esfera se ubican dos discos concéntricos independientes. El más externo albergaba los nombres de las 24 ciudades correspon-

dientes a los 24 husos horarios. El segundo disco, en la zona intermedia, indicaba las 24 horas mediante índices y cifras árabes (entre las 4 y las 5 se encuentra la ventanilla del fechador). Estas tres indicaciones, junto con las agujas centrales, son las que proporcionaban todas las indicaciones de la función horas mundiales. Lo extraordinario es que todas ellas se operaban median una única corona. Todo ello fue posible gracias a la creación del calibre de manufactura Breitling B05, una evolución del Breitling B01. Por supuesto, el reloj (oro rosa, 46 mm), también dispone de cronógrafo. El reloj 3 es el Transocean Unitime Pilot, que llegaría un año más tarde. Las diferencias técnicas con el anterior son inexistentes, ya que el Unitime Pilot equipaba el mismo calibre Breitling B05, conservando su cronógrafo tri-compax de remonte automático y sus magníficas 70 horas de reserva de marcha. En este caso, las modificaciones las encontrábamos en la estética. La recreación del globo terráqueo desaparecía para darle un aire más deportivo y profesional al reloj, algo que queda más que subrayado en la versión que les hemos presentado aquí: caja de acero, pulsera tipo malla de acero y una contundente esfera negra esmaltada. El número 4, el Breitling for Bentley GMT Light Body (Baselworld 2015), es un guarda tiempos más rotundo y tiene una imagen indiscutiblemente asociada al mundo del motor. Sin embargo, presenta

un diámetro de 45 mm y su caja está realizada en titanio, cuya ligereza motiva el apellido Light Body. Destaca también por sus asas de pulsera asimétricas, su bisel estriado, su esfera con relieve calado, su pulsera de caucho y sus pulsadores integrados. Respecto a la mecánica, debemos precisar que este modelo monta el calibre de manufactura Breitling B04, que mantiene el mismo mecanismo de ajuste de las horas universales y el calendario que el calibre Breitling B05. Por último, tenemos el número 5, una de las grandes novedades de este año: el Galactic Unitime Sleek T. Dicha colección es una de las más atípicas de la firma, ya que es la única que no incorpora la función cronógrafo, complicación por excelencia de la casa. Sin embargo, Breitling ha sabido contrarrestar este punto para ofrecer un reloj magnífico. Lo ha hecho añadiendo la función horas mundiales, creando además un nuevo calibre, el B35, que es el primer movimiento ‘no cronógrafo’ íntegramente diseñado y fabricado por la firma en su etapa contemporánea. A todo ello hay que sumarle un bisel realizado en tungsteno, que además de sus cualidades técnicas, aporta un atractivo contraste estético con el acero de la carrura. Watch number 1 is the Navitimer World, which features the dual time zone system. A red-tipped additional central hand displays the time in another part of the globe on a 24-hour scale, which allows the wearer to immediately know if it’s day or night In this case, the name of the world's major cities, which is characteristic on watches equipped with this function, is engraved on the case back (crafted in stainless steel, 46 mm in diameter). Inside beats the Calibre B24, which has a frequency of 28,000 v/h and builds up a 42-hour power reserve. It also features a chronograph function and a date window at 3 o'clock. If that weren’t enough, the bidirectional turning bezel completes the slide rule formed next to the inner scales of the dial, which make it possible to obtain tachymetric and telemetric data. Its magnificent blue leather strap matches the dial, which is the same colour and features a sunburst finish. Model number 2 is the Transocean Chronograph Unitime, presented at Baselworld 2012. The unique feature of this piece is its ability to harmonise the dual time zone adjustment with the calendar indication. It does so as follows: there are two independent concentric discs located on the rim of the dial. The outer one has the name of the 24 cities relating to the 24 time zones. The second disc, in the middle area, indicates

24 hours using indexes and Arabic numerals (the date window is located between 4 o'clock and 5 o'clock). These three indications, together with the central hands, provide all the indications of the worldtime function. What is extraordinary is that it all operates using a single crown. All this is possible thanks to the creation of the manufacture calibre Breitling B05, the next generation of the Breitling B01. Of course, the watch (rose gold, 46 mm) also has a chronograph. Watch number 3 is the Transocean Unitime Pilot, which arrived one year later. The technical differences with the above watch are nonexistent, as the Unitime Pilot is equipped with the same calibre Breitling B05, retaining its self-winding tri-compax chronograph and its wonderful 70-hour power reserve. In this case, the changes are found in the aesthetics. The representation of the globe disappears to give the watch a sportier, more professional look, which is particularly evident in the version presented here: stainless steel case, steel mesh bracelet and powerful black enamel dial. Number 4, the Breitling for Bentley GMT Light Body (Baselworld 2015), is a more uncompromising timepiece with a look unquestionably associated with the motoring world. However, it comes in a 45 mm diameter and its case is made of

titanium, hence the name Light Body. Also eye-catching are its asymmetric lugs, its fluted bezel, its openworked raised dial, its rubber strap and its integrated push-buttons. As for the mechanics, it should be noted that this model is equipped with the manufacture calibre Breitling B04, which has the same mechanism to adjust the universal hours and the calendar as the Breitling B05. Last is number 5, one of this year’s great innovations: the Galactic Unitime Sleek T. This is one of the brand's most atypical collections, as it is the only one that doesn’t have a chronograph function, the watchmaker’s quintessential complication. Nevertheless, Breitling has managed to counteract this point to offer a magnificent watch. It has done so by adding the worldtime function and also creating a new calibre, the B35, which is the first non-chronograph movement entirely designed and manufactured by the company in its present stage. La aventura de Certina comienza en Granges, en 1888, cuando los hermanos Adolf y Alfred Kurth inauguran un taller de accesorios y de mecanismos de alta calidad para el sector relojero. Poco después, ya bajo el nombre de Grana, la compañía se dedica al montaje de relojes completos, muy apreciados entonces tanto por su calidad como por su resistencia. Gracias a su buen hacer, los fundadores fueron galardonados con varios premios de prestigio en Milán, en 1906; y en Bruselas, en 1910. Espoleados por el éxito, y tras un largo periodo de tiempo dedicado a la investigación, en 1936 crearon el primero reloj mecánico digital, equipado además con un calibre de manufactura propio. Posteriormente, en 1938, el 50º aniversario de la casa marcaría el triunfo de una empresa familiar que ya daba trabajo a más de 200 personas. Los hermanos Kurth sentían que empezaba una nueva etapa y por ello decidieron cambiar el nombre de la empresa. La elección es conocida por todos: Certina. Este neologismo simboliza explícitamente las características de los cronómetros que la compañía estaba manufacturando, puesto que certus significa “cierto, seguro”. En 1999, siendo ya el grupo relojero más importante del mundo, SMH cambiaría su razón social para convertirse en The Swatch Group Ltd. En 2013, para celebrar su 125º aniversario, Certina cambió su identidad corporativa y adoptó un nuevo color, el verde oscuro, que simboliza la frescura, la suerte y el éxito. Kurth, unido a las investigaciones de ingenieros y técnicos, desemboca en la década de los ‘50 en el desarrollo del concepto de seguridad doble o Double Sécurité (DS). Se trata de un sistema de fijación antichoque del movimiento basado en el reforzamiento de la caja, el empleo de un grueso cristal acrílico y de unas juntas especiales para la tija, la corona y el fondo: todo ello confiere al reloj una resistencia excepcional incluso frente a las condiciones más extremas. Esta innovación permitía a la marca consolidarse en una posición fuerte dentro de un mercado muy reñido. Al mismo tiempo, comienza una época marcada por el avance en el conocimiento científico sobre tres elementos recurrentemente explorados por el hombre: el agua, el aire y la tierra. Certina participa activamente en numerosos experimentos y demuestra su maestría tecnológica continuamente. Dos ejemplos, entre muchos otros, destacan especialmente: en 1960, el reloj Certina DS acompañaba una expedición suiza al

pico del Mont Dhaulagiri en el Himalaya (8.222 m) y demostraba su gran fiabilidad frente a los cambios de temperatura y de presión atmosférica. Posteriormente, en 1970, el evolucionado cronómetro Certina DS Super PH 1000m es empleado por la NASA en su experimento Tektite I, en las Antillas. Otra de las grandes apuestas de la casa en materia de innovación, mucho más reciente, es la mejora de los movimientos de cuarzo. La industria se ha volcado durante los últimos años en potenciar los calibres mecánicos, ya sean manuales o automáticos, algo que se entiende como una estrategia básica para preservar la esencia de la relojería tradicional. Sin embargo, hay que recordar que los movimientos basados en la tecnología del cuarzo ofrecen una serie de ventajas sobre los mecánicos, a saber: son más precisos, resistentes y económicos. Por ello, Certina, que ha contado con la colaboración técnica del gigante SWATCH, ha logrado en los últimos años presentar un producto más novedoso e interesante.

Lo ha hecho gracias a la tecnología Precidrive, integrada por primera vez en el modelo DS-2 Chronograph, presentado en 2014. Los movimientos de cuarzo equipados con dicha tecnología son capaces de superar los estrictos requisitos establecidos por el certificado COSC para este tipo de calibres. Con una desviación de marcha de tan solo +/-10 segundos al año, un reloj Precidrive es entre 8 y 10 veces más preciso que uno de cuarzo convencional. Dicho grado de precisión se logra gracias a sus características innovadoras, como la termo compensación, y una caja de cerámica inteligente que protege el reloj de la humedad. Competidor nato Salta a la vista que la colección de Certina es, por encima de todo, de una estética muy deportiva. La firma siempre se ha sentido atraída por el mundo de la competición y desde los años ’70 su nombre se ha asociado a grandes campeones como Muhammed Ali, Mike Doohan, Álex Crivillé o Colin McRae. Con todo, es el motor el que ha captado más la atención de la marca. En 2005, Certina interviene por primera vez en el campeonato del mundo de Fórmula 1 como socio oficial del equipo Sauber Petronas. Un año más tarde, BMW adquiría el equipo F1 de Peter Sauber y la vinculación de Certina con el automovilismo se fortalecía gracias a la incorporación de Robert Kubica, que fue embajador de la casa durante 4 años. Posteriormente, en 2013, el interés de la marca en los deportes de motor se haría aún más fuerte: Certina se convertía en socio y cronometrador oficial del Campeonato Mundial de Rallyes (WRC) de la FIA.

The adventure of Certina began in Granges in 1888 when brothers Adolf and Alfred Kurth opened a workshop of fine supplies and mechanisms for the watch industry. Shortly after, using the name Grana, the company began assembling complete watches, which were highly regarded at the time for their quality and resistance.

As a result of their good work, the founders won several prestigious awards in Milan in 1906 and in Brussels in 1910. Spurred by their success, and after a long period of time devoted to research, in 1936 they created the first mechanical digital watch, which was also equipped with their own manufacture-made calibre. Subsequently, in 1938, the watchmaker’s 50th anniversary marked the triumph of a family business that already employed over 200 people. The Kurth brothers felt as though they were entering a new phase and therefore decided to change the name of the company. Their choice is known by all: Certina. This neologism explicitly symbolises the characteristics of the chronometers being manufactured by the company, as certus means "certain, sure". Thanks to this change and to the company’s good performance, Certina conquered the international market, which is reflected by the opening in 1948 of a first branch in Germany. In the 1980s, following the arrival of quartz movements, Certina was absorbed by the group resulting from the merger between SSIH and ASUAG. A new company, called SMH, was created in 1983, directed by a group of investors led by Nicolas G. Hayek. resistance, even under extremely demanding conditions. And this innovation allowed the brand to put itself in a top position in a very competitive market. It was also the start to a period marked by advancements in the scientific knowledge of three elements repeatedly explored by man: water, air and land. Certina actively took part in numerous experiments and was constantly showing its technological expertise. Two examples, among many, are particularly noteworthy: in 1960, the Certina DS watch accompanied a Swiss expedition to the peak of Mount Dhaulagiri in the Himalayas (8,222 m) and demonstrated its excellent ability to withstand changes in temperature and pressure. Subsequently, in 1970, the evolved Certina DS Super PH 1000 m chronometer was used by NASA in its Tektite I experiment in the West Indies. Another significant decision taken by the company much more recently in terms of innovation was the improvement to its quartz movement. In recent years, the industry has focused on enhancing mechanical calibres, both manual and automatic, which is seen as a fundamental strategy to preserve the essence of traditional watchmaking. Quartz movements equipped with this technology are able to exceed the strict requirements established by the COSC certificate for this type of calibre. With a deviation in the daily rate of only +/-10 seconds per year, a Precidrive watch is eight to ten times more accurate than a conventional quartz watch.
