PART I
LIFE IS A GAME - PLAY TO WIN
To succeed at the game of life, you must firstly
understand the game, the rules and the players. Secondly, you need a comprehensive and
effective code for living. Last but not least, you need to know how to access the resources at your disposal.
This book explores the operating principles that inspire and empower the whole person – body, mind, emotions and spirit. Human beings are powerful, 16 cylinder engines when all four
aspects of our being are fully engaged in the game.
The tools and approaches set out in this book
are based on the universal laws of physics and metaphysics. These laws are reliable, predictable and repeatable.
They are not someone’s theory, opinion or viewpoint, but are rather the underlying
operating principles of life. They are simple to
understand and use. You can rely on them and trust them. They are practical and easy to implement – and they always work.
“You cannot teach a man anything; you can only help him find it within himself.” Galileo

COACHES AND TEACHERS To do your best in your chosen game or sport, it also makes sense to get some lessons from a good coach or teacher. They will show you how to use the game resources to best effect. Once you understand the
basics, you practice under their tutelage to gradually increase your skill.
You repeatedly have a go, make mistakes, course correct and have another go. Just like you did in learning to walk, read or ride a bicycle. You will
certainly do better with a good coach or teacher than going it alone.

MIND
Your mind is the invisible, metaphysical realm of thoughts, ideas and beliefs.
There is clearly a link between the physical brain and the metaphysical mind. We know this because damage to the brain can impair access to aspects of the mind such as memory and cognitive intelligence.
Your mind is a problem solving resource that develops, uses and manipulates ideas and thoughts.
If you close your eyes, sit quietly and just observe your
mind, you will realise that it is a bit like watching a cinema
screen. For most people, thoughts and ideas float in and out of conscious awareness.
When we stop to analyse what’s happening, we realise that we don’t understand, nor are we trained to control, the mind’s processes.
The mind is incredibly powerful, capable of great thoughts and ideas. It is like a large bio-computer. We can program the mind to work on problems and develop new ideas and solutions.
Psychologists label that part of the mind which operates
below our awareness as the ‘sub-conscious’. It processes
vast amounts of data which we don’t need to be conscious of.
Did anyone teach you about the workings of the life game resource of your mind?
For most people the answer is no. Many of us assume we don’t really need to
know that much about the inner workings of
our mind. We go to school, pack a lot of facts and information into our minds, learn some skills, graduate, get a job or maybe go to
university - and then just get on with life as best we can.
This approach works well enough in relation to a personal computer. Who cares what’s
going on inside the RAM and the hard drive as long as we get the answers we need?
However, if random things appeared on the screen of your computer, and you had no
control over how long it stayed there or what came next - you’d quickly realise that you had a problem.
Yet we live with the super bio-computer that is our mind doing just that most of the time. The problem for most of us is that we have never been shown how to control our mind
resource, so it controls us. Most people are
unaware of how to consciously quiet the mind to access the vast intelligence realms of
intuition and wisdom that lie behind the stilled mind.
If you want to know more about controlling your mind, I highly recommend the tools,
techniques and approaches within our Life Journey Skills course.
EMOTIONS Part of being human is to have emotions –
and a wide range of emotions at that. Our
feelings can range from ‘up-tone’ feelings of happiness and joy, to ‘down-tone feelings’ of apathy and hopelessness.
Sometimes these emotional energies are fast moving and “flow through” us quickly.
Sometimes the energy flow is turgid and
slow and the resultant mood hangs around for a while.
Again, if we observe how we feel at any
given moment in time, we begin to realise that we have minimal control over the emotions we experience.
We might wake up feeling great and on top of the world - until we hear the morning
news and then we feel flat. Or, we feel down until we hear a song we love on the radio and our mood picks up.
We know that emotions can be very powerful and have a huge impact on our day to day
lives - but what are they exactly, where do they come from?
SPIRIT Spiritual beliefs and practices reflect a person’s belief in the divine - or universal intelligence -
that some call God, Allah, Brahma, Jehovah, All That Is or Great Spirit.
As a teenager or young adult, you may have
experienced that other people’s spiritual and
religious beliefs are a ‘no-go zone’ for them, and not open to rational analysis or discussion. You
may have found that attempting to challenge, or
even discuss, someone else’s spiritual beliefs can trigger powerful, emotional value system
responses. We are often at a loss to communicate effectively with each other on such sensitive and personal terrain.
You need to be clear on the difference between
spirit and spiritual if you are to optimise your life game. The concept of a person’s spirit can be
considered separate to their religious beliefs or practices.
The spirit is the core of a person, entirely
independent of geography, religion, culture or time - the true essence of their being.
The word spirit derives from the Latin verb – spirare – to breathe. Your spirit brings the
breath of life to your body and is the essence of who you are as a human being.
Our minds are almost always active - when we are awake and asleep – doing, thinking and dreaming.
Emotions are also an active affair and are most definitely energised.
Close your eyes and observe your body
sensations. Observe the thoughts flowing
through your mind and the emotions you are feeling – who is observing and watching?
That is the real you - the spirit being. Not doing anything. Just there – being. The
watcher, the observer – a powerful presence. Who taught you about your spirit - the core of your being? Has anyone shown you how your
spirit being operates - or how your spirit being creates physical reality from metaphysical thoughts and beliefs?
Next, let’s explore some new approaches, tools and concepts for handling this challenging game of life – and winning!
PART II
YOUR LIFE GAME PURPOSE AND FREEDOMS Every game needs a purpose, including your life
game. The key questions for such a complex game as the game of life are:
What is your purpose?
What do you want to achieve? How will you achieve it?
Once you start to work with the laws of physics
and metaphysics, there are three steps to follow: 1. Clarify what you want from life 2. Create your success vision
3. Create plans and action steps - working back from the future
Most people aspire to material progress – a nice
home and car, a good education and travel. These are all valid life goals as we do, after all, live in a material world.
We also need to define what non-material goals we want to achieve in life. Gaining additional skills
and experiences is relatively easy to define and is an equally valid goal.
What you may find a little more difficult to clarify is this - what will give you deep feelings of
satisfaction and fulfilment. What is your life purpose?
The reason for this is that many people are
bruised by their journey through life. They feel so
ground down and suppressed by the pressures and burdens that they find it hard to articulate what they really came here to do.
LIFE PURPOSE A vital key to creating the life you want is to clarify:
What you want from life – the material and nonmaterial goals
Your life purpose – what will give you a deep feeling of fulfilment.
If you don’t clarify your life purpose and vision, you are forever vulnerable to being drawn into
other people’s life games. In the section on the
laws of momentum, you will see that people with clear purpose, vision and momentum can stay
the course and create lives full of meaning and fulfilment.
LIFE GAME FREEDOMS
Let’s now review what freedoms you have in the game of life.
GAME MASTER You have the freedom to be the creator of your life game. You are the game master. This is a
fundamental spirit freedom that many people ignore. They spend large portions of their life unhappily
playing in someone else’s game. Choose your own game!
VIGILANCE They say that the price of freedom is eternal
vigilance. You can choose to stay vigilant or you can go to sleep in the game. Which strategy improves your chances of winning? Without maintaining
vigilance, the opposition you face may well defeat you.
LIFE GAME FREEDOMS To feel fulfilled, enthusiastic and motivated, you
must be free to either create or join a game, to stay and participate and to leave the game when you want to.
Any other rules of engagement are a form of
entrapment for your spirit being and will bring you
down. There are always people trying to trap you in
their games. So stay vigilant and exert your freedom to choose whenever you can.
IMPOSITIONS People and governments can impose brutally harsh and tough external circumstances of deprivation and freedom of movement on you - but you are
always free, as a spirit being, to internally hold true to your vision of the life you aspire to.
The universe will respond to your thoughts so keep them strong and positive, whatever your external
circumstances. That is a crucial life game freedom.
ETHICS You have the freedom to choose the internal rules, the personal ethics and morals with which you will
play your game. Other people will respond to your ethical stance.
THINKING BIG The freedom to choose a big or small life game is
yours. There’s no right or wrong, there is just choice. And it’s not about what you think is possible. It’s about how big do you want to go?
What would you go for if you knew you couldn’t fail? Remember the physical universe is not as it seems. It
is an intelligent, responsive illusion. It responds to the thoughts that reflect the attention and intention of your spirit being.
A large vision, a strong purpose and well-defined goals
have more metaphysical mass and, therefore, a greater metaphysical gravitational pull than smaller visions, purpose and goals.
So in some regards, a big game attracts more help
than a small game. However, a big game also attracts more opposition so you have to be prepared to resist and persist.
As always, you have the freedom to choose the size of your game.
If you are not sure what to do with your life in terms of your life purpose, take the advice of the scientist and philosopher, Buckminster Fuller:
“Look around the planet. See what needs done that no-one else is successfully tackling and do that.”
Find something that needs to be done, that aligns with your passions and interests, and put your shoulder to the wheel.
RESOURCES You have the freedom to learn as much as possible
about your four main game of life resources – your body, mind, emotions and spirit.
SKILLS There are thousands of teachers, coaches, courses,
workshops, books, and DVDs out there that you can access to develop any life skill you want. Life
Journey Skills is one such course but there are many to choose from once you start reading and researching.
COURAGE There are three components to courage: Fear
Commitment Action
If your life purpose is challenging, you will
undoubtedly need courage to live it. You are free to choose to be courageous in your life game.
FEAR
You have the freedom to overcome your fears or let them paralyse you into inactivity.
A good strategy for overcoming fear is to ask
yourself what is the worst that can happen? Next is to chunk the overwhelming challenge down into
smaller, do-able steps. Then take a deep breath and do it anyway. Fear is all in the mind.
COMMITMENT
You are free to commit to your life vision, goals and life purpose.
What are you going to do in your life game –
participate till the going gets tough and then quit, or commit fully? I suggest WEIT – whatever it takes!
ACTION You can have the best goals and plans in the world but you must take action if you are to succeed.
TEAM As the creator of your life game, you are the game master. You have the freedom to invite other
people to join your game and play on your team. Many people are so bored with their own life
game, they will jump at the opportunity to enrol in someone else’s inspiring and motivating game. It’s much more fun playing the game of life with other people.
PERSISTENCE If your life game amounts to anything, you will
encounter resistance. You have the freedom to
persist or quit. The most rewarding in the long run is the freedom choice of refusing to quit – no matter what!
The word persistence derives from the Latin words –per sistere – to stand firm throughout. Your choice to be determined and persistent will
influence the amount of energy, passion, desire and will that you impart into broadcasting your purpose out into metaphysical universe.
LEADERSHIP The word leadership derives from a very old
Anglo Saxon verb — laedan — to show the way. If you are to aspire to being a leader, your role is to ‘show the way’. So having a clear mission or purpose is a critical leadership trait. This applies to all leadership roles - within your family, your community or business.
INTENT The word intent derives from the Latin – in tendere – to stretch towards.
You have the freedom to play your life game
with high intent or low intent. Are you really
going for it? The power of intent that you bring to your game of life is another freedom you
have. And be warned – often when the going
gets really tough, it may only be the power of your intent that gets you through.
CONFRONT You also have the freedom to choose how you
confront the issues and challenges that will arise during your life game.
Will you tackle them with high levels of confront or low levels? This is a real test of your spirit and your commitment to your game.
Warriors have big spirits and value their freedom, so they present a high level of confront to game player opponents. You have freedom to choose your level of confront in your life game.
POSTULATES Challenges will be easier to overcome if you choose to
express your life goals and vision in terms of what are known as postulates:
Postulate – to assume to be true, real Assume – to take for granted
Demand – to ask for boldly or urgently; to ask for as a right
The word postulate derives from the Latin verb
postulare – to demand. The quality and intensity of
your thoughts are a reflection of the strength of your will power, focused attention and the passion and commitment to achieve a goal.
Big goals have bigger metaphysical mass, greater passion and intention – and this gives the
metaphysical thought more kinetic energy, more oomph.
This is important because your thought must maintain momentum in the metaphysical universe against the
opposition and friction of other people’s thoughts. The more kinetic energy and momentum in your thought, the more impact it will have in the metaphysical universe.
You have the freedom to really think through what you want in life and then formulate those wants as
postulates – clear concise statements of what you
want, expressed with strong commitment and passion. State your postulates with energy and force. The ever
alert and responsive universe receives your thought as something you have already assumed to be true. You are stating that it is achieved and the universe responds.
A postulate is so much stronger than a wish, a plea or a hope. These are thoughts that have metaphysical
mass but not as much kinetic energy as a postulate. Thus they are more easily dissipated in the thought noise of the metaphysical universe.
You have freedom to choose to express your desires as wishes, pleas and hopes or postulates. Choose wisely – achieving your life purpose depends on it.
PLANNING AND ACTION You won’t get anywhere without taking action. Again, you have freedom in your life game –
procrastination or action. In my book Life Journey
Skills, and in the Life Journey Skills course, I share some very powerful graphical vision and planning tools to help you plan and carry out your action
steps. The secret is not to start from the present
and work towards the future. Go out to your future vision and work back to the present. It’s an extremely effective planning strategy.
MASTERMIND Consider using your freedom to form and work with both a physical and a metaphysical mastermind.
Napoleon Hill described the power of both in his famous book, Think & Grow Rich. This concept is
explained in greater detail in the Life Journey Skills online course.
FAITH You have the freedom to believe that you are not
alone and that there is a guiding hand assisting you in life. The universe is exquisitely intelligent, so why not choose to believe that the intelligent
universe is conspiring to help you - and see what happens?
MY LIFE MY WAY You won’t get anywhere without taking action. Again, you have freedom in your life game – procrastination or action. In my book Life
Journey Skills, and in the Life Journey Skills
course, I share some very powerful graphical
vision and planning tools to help you plan and
carry out your action steps. The secret is not to start from the present and work towards the
future. Go out to your future vision and work
back to the present. It’s an extremely effective planning strategy.
