Usually the thinner the yarn the less absorbent it is, but thinner is more durable, and usually more expensive. With a high loft or fatter yarn you can make a mop that “looks bulkier” with less weight !!

Another factor of durability and absorption is the thickness of the yarn, one must conjugate fiber content with yarn thickness into a formula specially designed for the application or use of the mop.

Yarns can be made in a variety of titles and plies, and in a variety of fibers like: Cotton, Rayon, Polyester, blends etc..

As you can see in the photo, the thickness of the plied yarn is about the same, but one yarn is an 8 ply and the other is a 4 ply.

Since 1953 our company has processed millions of pounds of waste and textile byproducts and has been a leader for the preservation of the environment. In 1991 we started our sister company FIBRATEX bringing in house the cotton recycling and reconversion. We procure waste from dozens of textile mills in the U.S.A. and Latin America and reprocess into clean usable fiber. We also have hundreds of collection operations in Central America buying waste from T-shirt factories, this waste is recycled into clean white or color cotton !

WET MOPPING Wet mopping or general purpose floor cleaning requires a combination of adequate performance and economy. Cotton yarns or rayon blends are best choice of wet mops for this category.

INDUSTRIAL

INDUSTRIAL FACILITIY CLEANING Industrial facility cleaning is a very complex application due to the variance of environments and needs. Rough surfaces, grease, chemicals, abuse is not out of the ordinary. That is why HIMESA custom designs a variety of yarns for this usage. Long staple yarns like rayon F, Acrilex Primario, Blendex, Acrilex colors are quite popular, as well as some cotton yarns but with extra tight twist and thin, to be able to withstand the abuse.

FOOD SERVICE RESILIENT FLOORS FLOOR FINISHING

COMMERCIAL CLEANING SERVICES Commercial facilities cleaning and services have evolved and professionalized in the last decade, and HIMESA has developed a series of yarns and mops that promote safe practices. No longer is necessary to carry super large mops (back breakers) now a mid weight mop but with mid liquid retention, good release and a choice of mops depending on the type of job are imperative, offering products like our Econo Acrilex, Our natural white Blendex yarns, and obviously our range of color cottons.

HEALTHCARE FACILITIY CLEANING Healthcare facility cleaning is one of the most demanding of application for mops. Cross contaimination, repeat launderings, accountability, fast drying times are of upmost improtance. We limit our recommendation to our high end mops like our Rayon F, our color acrilex Line or our Acrilex Antimicrobial line.

FOOD SERVICE Food Service cleaning applications are open to the broadest yarn options. Consumer practices and economy generally define the policy for restaurant chains. Recommended uses range from low cost cotton to high end anitmicrobial yarns. If your cusomers wants a limited life/use mop cotton mops are the obviouss choice, HIMESA gives you more choices since it can offer a low cost cotton yarn in colors, for color coding situations. However, if repeat laundering is required, we recommend one of our rayon blend, Acrilex blends or antimicrobial yarns. Each yarn offer its own special abilities.

RESILIENT FLOORS The nemesis for a mop is a tough surface - and due to safety these floors are more and more utilized . For these rough surfaces it is imperative to use specialized yarns like our 8 ply Rayon F or our extra thing 3.5/4 ply Rayon yarn. We also have specialized strip mops that are made of woven cotton t-shirt material, specially designed for these surfaces. FLOOR FINISHING APPLICATIONS Floor finish applications require yarns that have low lint and superior absorption performance but a good release ability. There are only a few yarns that meet these requirements, HIMESA makes several FINISH YARNS just for this like our acrilex Finish 1.5/4 ply and our heavy duty 2/6 ply blue/white finish yarn.
