EN NAZARET JESÚS PROCLAMA SU MISIÓN Lucas 4:14-19

Obispo: El Santo Evangelio según a San Lucas, el capítulo 4: C: ¡Gloria a ti, oh Señor!

[14] Jesús volvió a Galilea con el poder del Espíritu, y su fama corrió por toda aquella región. [15] Enseñaba en las sinagogas de los judíos y todos lo alababan. [16] Llegó a Nazaret, donde se había criado, y el sábado fue a la sinagoga, como era su costumbre. Se puso de pie para hacer la lectura, [17] y le pasaron el libro del profeta Isaías. Jesús desenrolló el libro y encontró el pasaje donde estaba escrito: [18] El Espíritu del Señor está sobre mí. El me ha ungido para llevar buenas nuevas a los pobres, para anunciar la libertad a los cautivos, y a los ciegos que pronto van a ver, para despedir libres a los oprimidos [19] y proclamar el año de gracia del Señor.







Con El Poder del Espíritu

Buenas tardes. Es un gran honor estar con ustedes en esta ocasión especial: la ordenación de nuestra hermana Adriana. Felicitaciones.

Me gustaría hacer 5 puntos.

1. Fíate en el Espíritu Santo.

Jesús regresó a Nazaret (donde se había criado) con el poder del Espíritu, y su fama se corrió por toda aquella región. Adriana, estás en un punto de tu vida muy significativo. En este punto empiezas un nuevo capítulo en tu ministerio aquí en la congregación, Iglesia Luterana Príncipe de Paz. Te deseo que puedas regresar con el poder del Espíritu. Adriana, fíate del poder del Espíritu. No hagas nada por tu propia fuerza. Nada. Fíate del poder del Espíritu en tu vida, en tu debilidad. Fíate del poder del Espíritu para trabajar por tu gente. Fíate de que la Palabra de Dios tiene poder, y cuando es sembrada en tierra buena, cosechará su fruto. El profeta Isaías lo dice de esta manera,

Así como la lluvia y la nieve bajan del cielo, y no vuelven allá, sino que empapan la tierra, la fecundan y la hacen germinar, y producen la semilla para sembrar y el pan para comer,

así también la palabra que sale de mis labios no vuelve a mí sin producir efecto, sino que hace lo que yo quiero y cumple la orden que le doy. (Isaías 55:10-11)

Que la Palabra sea plantada y dé mucho fruto aquí. Que el nombre de Jesús corra por todo esta comunidad. Que el amor de Dios se divulgue por toda esta comunidad.

2. Recuérdate, estás bendecido para ser una bendición. Todos nosotros estamos estás bendecidos para ser una bendición.

Jesús llegó a su pueblo de origen, Nazaret, donde se había criado. Fue a la sinagoga como era su costumbre. Le pasaron el libro del Profeta Isaías. Y leyó, "El Espíritu de El Señor está sobre mí. Me ha ungido: • Para traer buenas noticias a los pobres, • para anunciar la libertad a los cautivos, • y a los ciegos que pronto van a ver, • para despedir libres a los oprimidos y • proclamar el año de gracia del Señor.

Adriana, eres una bendición. Dios te ha dado talentos extraordinarios. El Señor te ha llamado a un ministerio muy especial. Podemos decir que el Espíritu te ha ungido para este ministerio, en este momento y en este lugar. Dios te ha ungido para predicar buenas noticias al pobre,

para proclamar la liberación a los cautivos, a ayudar a los que son ciegos a ver. Vas a ayudar a los que están atrapados, rotos, atemorizados, oprimidos. Ponlos en libertad, y enfáticamente anuncia la gracia de Dios y su amor.

Eres una bendición a esta congregación y a esta comunidad. Pero eso no es todo. Eres una bendición para nuestro sínodo, y a todas las iglesias de Houston. Tu alegría. Tu compasión. Tu amor. Tu sonrisa. bailando. Nosotros somos testigo de eso. Eres una constructora de puentes. El Espíritu de Dios está sobre ti. Te ha ungido para este ministerio en este momento, en este lugar. Estoy segurísimo de ello. Lo dice la comunidad entera. Por eso nos encontramos hoy aquí, para orar por una porción generosa del Espíritu en tu ministerio.

3. Adriana, eres una inmigrante, como muchos de ustedes en este lugar. Eso te pone en un lugar muy extraordinario. Vives en ese espacio incómodo entre culturas. Estás en la frontera. La frontera es un lugar de gran peligro y un lugar de gran potencial. Es un espacio liminal. Los inmigrantes, que viven en ese espacio intermedio a menudo encuentran a Dios muy profundamente. Ven cosas que algunos de nosotros, que nos anidamos cómodamente en nuestra cultura, no podemos ver.

Muchos personajes bíblicos experimentaron a Dios más agudamente en esos lugares intermedios. Dios le dijo a Abraham, en Génesis 12:

“Vete de tu tierra, De entre tus parientes Y de la casa de tu padre, A la tierra que Yo te mostraré. Haré de ti una nación grande, Y te bendeciré, Engrandeceré tu nombre, Y serás bendición. Bendeciré a los que te bendigan, Y al que te maldiga, maldeciré. En ti serán benditas todas las familias de la tierra.”

La primera confesión en la Biblia está en Deuteronomio 26:

"Mi padre fue un Arameo errante y descendió a Egipto y residió allí, siendo pocos en número; pero allí llegó a ser una nación grande, fuerte y numerosa. Pero los Egipcios nos maltrataron y nos afligieron y pusieron sobre nosotros dura servidumbre. Entonces clamamos al Señor, el Dios de nuestros padres, y el Señor oyó nuestra voz y vio nuestra aflicción, nuestro trabajo y nuestra opresión. Y el Señor nos sacó de Egipto con mano fuerte y brazo extendido, con gran terror, con

señales y milagros; y nos ha traído a este lugar y nos ha dado esta tierra, una tierra que mana leche y miel. ‘Ahora, yo he traído las primicias de los frutos de la tierra que Tú, oh Señor, me has dado."

¿Nosotros quizás nos preguntemos, "Este Arameao errante ¿tenía los documentos apropiados para residir en Egipto"? Él y su familia, ¿fueron "extranjeros ilegales"? Y sus hijos ¿tenían las credenciales apropiadas del Seguro Social? ¿Hablaron el idioma egipcio adecuadamente? Esto sí sabemos: Fueron extranjeros en un imperio poderoso. Fueron al mismo tiempo explotados y temidos. Fueron relegados a trabajos forzados. "Y despertaron la paranoia esquizofrénica típica de imperios," dice el Dr. Luis Rivera-Pagán.

Los israelitas fueron extranjeros en Egipto. Luego vagaron en el desierto. Después fueron inmigrantes en la Tierra Prometida.

Jesús, María y José huyeron hacia la seguridad de Egipto durante la persecución de Herodes. Jesús mismo estuvo en el desierto durante 40 días y 40 noches, aterrorizado en ese lugar intermedio, antes que empezara su ministerio. El apóstol Pablo pasó 14 años en el desierto antes de empezar su trabajo misionero.

Hermanos y hermanas en Cristo, el espacio "en medio" es suelo santo. Es un espacio sagrado. Nuestro Señor

Jesucristo vivió en medio del cielo y de la tierra. En ese lugar santo se ven cosas que nosotros no vemos. Se oyen cosas que nosotros no oímos. Por favor, dinos del Dios que encuentras allí. Aquí. Enséñanos acerca del Jesús que anda a tu lado y del Espíritu que te capacita.

4. Adriana, eres una latinoamericana. Las latinoamericanas en Estados Unidos saben la realidad del racismo, el sexismo y el clasismo, todo agrupado en uno. Como mujer, experimentas una acción extra de discriminación que hombres no experimentan. Y todavía, te muestras con fuerza y clase, y con espíritu apacible. Te ríes, bailas y cantas. Le traes alegría a quienes están a tu alrededor. Dios te ha llamado a traer alegría a este vecindario, a esta congregación y a la iglesia entera.

5. Y por último Adriana, eres una pastora. Ahora proclamarás el amor y la gracia de Dios como pastora de la iglesia. La vocación bautismal es de vivir en el amor de Cristo el cual le pertenece a todos los hijos e hijas de Dios. Pero ahora eres llamada a dedicarte muy específicamente a predicar de la Palabra y la administración de los Sacramentos, siempre y sólo por el poder del Espíritu. Somos guardianes de los misterios, llamados a tener la mente de Cristo, quien no se hizo Señor sobre otros, ni igual a Dios como algo para explotarnos, mas bien se vació, tomando la forma de un sirviente, e incluso dando su vida de la cruz.

Adriana, que Dios te dé el poder del Espíritu para proclamar la cruz de Cristo y la esperanza de la resurrección, para que el nombre de Jesús se esparza por todas partes de esta comunidad.

En el nombre del Padre, y del Hijo, y del Espíritu Santo.



















In the Power of the Spirit

1. Jesus returned to Nazareth with the power of the Spirit. And his fame spread. Adriana you are at a significant milestone. With this milestone you begin a new chapter of ministry at Prince of Peace. May you return to Prince of Peace with the power of the Spirit. Adriana, trust the power of the Spirit. Do nothing on your own strength. Nothing. Trust the power of the Spirit to work through you, and through your weakness. Trust the power of the Spirit to work through your people. Trust that the Word of God has power, and when it is sown in good soil, it reaps a harvest. So Isaiah says,

10 For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return there until they have watered the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, 11 so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and succeed in the thing for which I sent it. (Isiaah 55:10-11)

May the Word be planted and bring forth much fruit here. And may the name of Jesus spread throughout all of this community. May the love of God spread throughout all this community.

2. Jesus arrived at his hometown of Nazareth, where he had been raised. He went to the synagogue as was his custom. He was passed the book of the Prophet Isaiah. And he read, "The Spirit of The Lord is upon me. He has anointed me:

• • • • •

To bring good news to the poor To announce release to the captives That the blind will see That the oppressed will be set free And to announce the year of God's grace

Adriana, you are a blessing. God has uniquely gifted you. The Lord has called you to a very special ministry. You might say that the Spirit has anointed you for this ministry, at this time and in this place. God has anointed you to preach good news to the poor, proclaim release to the captives. Help those who are blind to see. Help those who are trapped, broken, afraid, downtrodden. Set them free, and boldy announce God's grace and love.

You are a blessing to this congregation and to this community. But that is not all. You are a blessing to our synod, and all the churches in Houston. Your joy. Your compassion. Your love. They are a witness to us. You are a bridge builder. The Spirit of God is upon you. He has anointed you for this ministry at this time, in this place. I am absolutely certain of it. So says the whole community.

And so we lay hands on you today, to pray for a generous measure of the Spirit in your ministry.

2. Adriana, you are an immigrant, as are many of you in this room. That puts you in a very unique place. You live in that uncomfortable space between cultures. You are on the border. The border is a place of great danger and a place of great potential. It is liminal space. Immigrants, who live in that in-between space often encounter God in profound ways. You see things that those of us comfortably nestled in our culture do not.

Many biblical characters experienced God most acutely in those in between places. Abraham was told by God, in Genesis 12:

Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you. I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and the one who curses you I will curse; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.’

The very first confession of faith in the Bible is in Deuteronomy 26. When you bring your gift to the altar say,

"A wandering Aramean was my ancestor; he went down into Egypt and lived there as an alien, few in

number, and there he became a great nation, mighty and populous. 6When the Egyptians treated us harshly and afflicted us, by imposing hard labour on us, 7we cried to the Lord, the God of our ancestors; the Lord heard our voice and saw our affliction, our toil, and our oppression. 8The Lord brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, with a terrifying display of power, and with signs and wonders; 9and he brought us into this place and gave us this land, a land flowing with milk and honey. 10So now I bring the first of the fruit of the ground that you, O Lord, have given me."

We might ask, "Did this wandering Aramean have the proper documents to reside in Egypt?" Were he and his family "illegal aliens?" Did he and his children have the proper Social Security credentials? Did they speak the Egyptian language properly? This we know: They were strangers in a powerful empire. They were at the same time exploited and feared. They were relegated to hard labor. "And they awakened the schizophrenic paranoia typical of empires," says Dr. Luis Rivera-Pagan.

The Israelites were strangers in Egypt. Then they were wanders in the wilderness. Then they were immigrants in the Promised Land.

Jesus, Mary and Joseph fled to safety in Egypt during Herod's persecution. Jesus himself went into the wilderness for 40 days and 40 nights, that terrifying in between place, before he began his ministry. The apostle Paul spent 14 years in the wilderness before beginning his missionary work.

Brothers and sisters in Christ, the space "in between" is holy ground. It is sacred space. Our Lord Jesus Christ lived in between heaven and earth. In that holy place you see things we don't see. You hear things we don't hear. Please, tell us about the God you encounter there. Here. Teach us about the Jesus who walks along side you and the Spirit who empowers you.

4. Adriana, you are a Latina. Latinas in the United States know the reality of racism, sexism and classism, all rolled into one. As a woman, you experience an extra share of discrimination that men don't experience. And yet, you forge forward with strength and a kind and gentle spirit. You laugh and dance and sing. You bring joy to those around you. God has called you to bring joy to this neighborhood, to this congregation and to the whole church.

And finally Adriana, you are a pastor. Now you will proclaim the love and grace of God as a pastor of the church. The baptismal vocation is to live in the love of Christ belongs to all of the people of God. But now you are

called to tend very specifically the preaching of the Word and the administration of the Sacraments, always and only by the power of the Spirit. We are stewards of the mysteries, called to have the mind of Christ, who did not Lord it over others, or count equality with God something to be exploited, but emptied himself, taking on the form of a servant, and even giving his life of the cross.

Adriana, may God give you the power of the Spirit to proclaim the cross of Christ and the hope of the resurrection, so that the name of Jesus might spread all over this community.
