All Is God’s Grace Gratitude and Praise Be To God There is a song which helps to paint a beautiful picture of the multicultural community of IHM, and it came to mind when Fr. Jerry Brown asked me to share a few words with you: “We are one in the Spirit, We are one in the Lord We are one in the Spirit, We are one in the Lord, And we pray that all unity may one day be restored And they'll know we are Christians by our love, by our love Yes, they'll know we are Christians by our love." God is LOVE and All Is God’s Grace! Yes indeed, God is LOVE and All Is God’s Grace! The more I ponder God's Love and God’s Grace the more I am convinced that, all the events of our lives are in God’s providence. My dear new family in Christ, first of all, just a little intro about me… For 15 years in Seminaries, 25 years of priesthood, and 56 years of age... I would like to give credits and thanks to my parents and grandparents, my predecessors who have provided a solid foundation as well as great examples of always saying "yes" to God, and to be ready “no matter what” to serve God and Glorify His name. With the willingness to say "yes" to the Lord, through daily prayers, I often remind myself: to abandon my ego, and in humility, to always put God at the center of my consecrated life; to always serve Him under any circumstances, anywhere and anytime. One thing I know is that the Lord has chosen me for the priesthood, not because I have extraordinary talents, or have done great works…but because of the LOVE of God and by God alone! So then my dear friends, do not be afraid to serve God any longer and to continue to go forward to Glorify God’s name. To this end, I would like to see IHM be a place for us to grow together in serving God and to where all are welcome. So then, let us move forward, with all the wonderful things Fr. Jerry Brown has already accomplished, to a NEW LIFE in Christ, with me at IHM. My friends, Even though I am very pleased and honored to come and serve God at IHM’s family, honestly, I also feel very overwhelmed and nervous because for the past 6 years I have only served the Vietnamese parishioners at the Diocese of Las Vegas (in Vietnamese language only). Now to serve at a new parish with multiple cultures, languages, nationalities, and practices is truly a daunting task. Thank God for Fr. Jerry who has welcomed me with all his heart, and who has been helping me with my many questions so that I will be prepared, at least in spirit, to serve God, and YOU, well at IHM. So together with me, please give Fr. Jerry Brown a big thank you for all the wonderful works he has done for the Diocese of Oakland and for the people of God at IHM over the past 10 years. And for being the new kid on the block in Brentwood, I humbly ask for your support, patience and understanding. I will need time to learn the many new areas and to get to know you all in person. NAMI Course at IHM The National alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is offering a 12 week free course that provides education, emotional support, self-care and empowerment for anyone who cares for or interacts with a loved one with a diagnosed mental illness. The course is not open to those loved ones that suffer from these illnesses. This course covers the symptoms and treatment of major mental illnesses, as well as skills to help family members communicate with and advocate for their loved one(s) more effectively.
