Reflections ~ Reflexiones

GOSPEL: Matthew 2:13-15, 19-23

Today it is common for families to move many times. So we can imagine how Joseph felt when an angel suddenly warned him to pack up his family and move to Egypt. But Joseph did not argue or complain. He listened, and out of love he obeyed God's will. Then, when danger was past, God called the Holy Family out of exile. Jesus, Mary, and Joseph finally had a permanent home in Nazareth.

1.) The word obedience comes from a Latin word meaning, "to listen." Some of us have developed what is called "selective hearing." We select, or choose, what we want to hear. When God (who is working through our parents and others in authority) says, "Go on vacation," or "Take a ride together and stop for ice cream," we listen! At other times, it might be harder to listen to God and to our parents. What are those times? Why do you think listening and obeying is hard at times? What makes it easier at these times? 2.) Why do you think Joseph listened to God? What might have happened if he had taken it easy and not bothered? Have you ever been like Joseph and obeyed and then were very glad you did?

En la actualidad es común que las familias se muden de un lugar a otro. Imagina como se sintió José cuando un ángel le dijo que empacara y con su familia se mudara a Egipto. José no protestó. Escuchó y por amor obedeció la voluntad de Dios. Después cuando el peligro había pasado, Dios llama a la Sagrada familia para terminar su exilio. Jesús, María y José finalmente tuvieron un hogar permanente en Nazaret.

1.) La palabra obediencia se deriva de una palabra en latín que significa "escuchar". Algunos de nosotros debemos desarrollar lo que se llama "oído selectivo". Escogemos lo que queremos escuchar. "Cuando Dios (quien está trabajando por medio de nuestros padres y otras autoridades) dice: "ve de vacaciones", o "tomen un paseo y disfruten de un helado". Algunas veces es difícil escuchar a Dios y a nuestros padres. ¿Cuándo? ¿Crees que es siempre difícil escuchar y obedecer? ¿Qué lo hace fácil? 2.) ¿Por qué crees que José escuchó a Dios? ¿Qué pudo haber pasado si él no se hubiera preocupado? ¿Has obedecido como José alguna vez y luego te has sentido bien de haberlo hecho?

Para su Información: SALVACIÓN EN LA VIDA DIARIA: Este domingo es la fiesta de la Sagrada Familia que cae en el primer domingo después del Día de Navidad. La fiesta de hoy celebra cómo la humanidad de Jesús (incluso toda su familia) ha dado significado salvífico a los quehaceres diarios de nuestra propia vida familiar. Las lecturas ofrecen instrucción y aliento sobre cómo compartir –dentro de nuestras familias, en la familia de la parroquia y en la más amplia familia humana– el amor que Dios comparte con nosotros en Jesús. Selecciones de Eclesiástico, del salmo 128 (127), y colosenses nos alientan a ser reflejo del amor divino y así encontrar la santidad en todas nuestras relaciones humanas. FIESTA DE LA FE: Los rituales Los rituales son acciones que separamos de lo ordinario para significar con ellas algo extraordinario, algo que va más allá de nuestras propias emociones y palabras. De hecho, los rituales no se explican, se experimentan y en esa experiencia se agotan las explicaciones porque no son necesarias. En lugar de definirlos, invitamos a las personas a que experimenten, no tanto lo que hemos experimentado nosotros, sino lo que el ritual ha hecho en nosotros. Los rituales son acciones sagradas que llevan en sí mismas todo lo que las palabras no son capaces de transmitir. De hecho, la experiencia del ritual nada tiene que ver con palabras, sino con acciones concretas de participación mediante nuestros sentidos y nuestra disposición interior. Con esto no es posible afirmar que el ritual es algo mágico, sino más bien un espacio de la vida en el cual la gracia de Dios se hace presente, evidente y transparente; nosotros nos disponemos a que esa gracia transforme nuestra vida por completo, incluyendo nuestras emociones. La Eucaristía es un “ritual de rituales”. Ahí hay palabras y acciones, la palabra misma es sagrada y las acciones van más allá de nuestras palabras. SALVATION IN DAILY LIFE: This Sunday is the feast of the Holy Family, which comes on the first Sunday after Christmas Day. Today’s feast celebrates how the humanity of Jesus (including his entire family life) has brought saving significance into the daily rhythms of our human family life. The scriptures offer instruction and encouragement on how to share—within our families, parish families, and the wider human family—the love that God shares with us in Jesus. Selections from Sirach, Psalm 128, and Colossians encourage us to reflect divine love and thus find holiness in all our human relationships. The reading from Matthew’s Gospel offers a living example of love in the actions Joseph took to protect his young family from danger and to nurture them within the larger family of faith of their time.© Copyright, J. Why does the liturgy begin with a procession? It is not just a practical matter of getting the ministers of the liturgy from the sacristy to the sanctuary.
