School Life


School life in Mali In Mali, the first six years of schooling are primary education, and the last six years are separated into two three-year cycles of secondary education. Education in Mali is free and compulsory between ages 7 and 16, or until the end of grade nine. In a study on girls' access to education in 122 countries, it was reported that only 38 percent of Malian girls had completed primary school.

It is common for young women to work as housemaids. When the father passes away, the oldest son becomes the head of the family. Adult sons often work outside the home to support their families and are respected above other children for their financial support. “

Religion(s) Mali is a predominantly Muslim country which means they beleive in Islam more. With 94.84 percent of the population belonging to Islam. Of that 94.84 percent, only 0.8 percent is Shi'a versus. The greater majority of Sunni Muslims in the country. the remaining 5 percent of Malians adhere to traditional African religions such as the Dogon religion, or Christianity.

Common/Traditional Foods “ Typical dishes include rice with vegetables in a peanut sauce, rice or other cereal grains served with tomatoes and fish or meat with vegetables. Meat curries are frequently made with lamb. “Riz au gras” is a dish of rice with vegetables and meat. “Jollof rice” is rice with tomatoes, vegetables and meat.” In mali people mostly eat Chicken and lamb. Since the majority of Mali's population is Muslim, most people tend to drink fruit juice rather than alcohol, and as a result there is a good range of fresh fruit juices as well as the fruits, including mango and banana, themselves.

Hobbies for PreTeens/Teens in mali In mali teens go to associations organize athletic, theatrical, musical, and dancing activities that are planned by the adults. Football (soccer) is Mali's most popular sport, and every neighbourhood in the major towns has a team. But they mainly enjoy going to the rituals because there is a lot of dancing and music. Malian teens have a lot of fun going to the local zoo or even to the Niger river.
