Before using your new Beetle Robot Kit, please read this instruction manual to prevent any damage. Put them away in a safe place for future references.

Su Nuevo Kit de Escarabajo está diseñado para niños de 10 años o más. Es un equipo de nivel intermedio que necesita conocimientos básicos de electrónica. Está hecho para que actúe y parezca un insecto real. Cuenta con sensores de toque, que cuando encuentra un obstáculo automáticamente regresa. También puede configurar diferentes rutinas de movimiento mediante puentes (jumpers).

Your new Beetle Robot kit has been designed for 10+ years kids. Some previous knowledge of electronics are required. Is designed to behave and appear insect-like. Counts with touch sensors, when its antenna (touch sensor) detect an object in its path, the robot will go backward first and automatically follow a two-step maneuver to help it overcome the obstacle. It can be configured to have different sets of movements, using the jumpers.

IMPORTANTE El equipo contiene partes pequeñas, no lo deje cerca de niños pequeños. Para instalar ciertos componentes se necesita utilizar soldadura, se recomienda que un adulto esté presente cuando se arme el equipo. Antes de iniciar el armado de este kit, debe contar con un cautin para soldar, soldadura, una pinza de punta, una pinza de corte y un destornillador de cruz.

IMPORTANT This set contains small parts, may be hazardous for children under three. To install some pieces, you need soldering, we recommend you a parental guide when children assemble the kit. Before to start to assemble this kit, you must to have a soldering station, a pointed tweezer, a tweezer for cut and a cross screwdriver.

INSTRUCCIONES DE ARMADO DE LA PARTE MECÁNICA

HOW TO ASSEMBLE THE MECHANICAL SECTION

1.- Ubique los motores (P1) y coloque los engranes centrales de los motores (piñones) (P9) (Fig. 1) 2.- Coloque la placa de plástico F encima de la placa G. Para asegurarla utilice 2 tornillos (P5) (Fig. 2). 3.- Instale los sujetadores de motor (P2) (uno de cada lado) en la placa F. Utilice tornillos (P3), y tuercas (P4), para cubrir el tornillo coloque un tubo de PVC (P12) y corte el excedente (Fig. 3). 4.- Coloque los motores (P1) en los sujetadores de motor (P2) (Fig. 4).

1.- Locates the engines (P1) and place the pinion gear (P9) (Fig. 1) 2.- Place the F plaque over the G plaque. To fasten it, use two screws (P5) (Fig. 2). 3.- Put the motor holder (P2) (one by each side) on the F plaque. Use screws (P3) and nuts (P4). To cover the screw put a PVC tube (P12) on it and cut the excess (Fig. 3). 4.- Place the engines (P1) on the motor holder (P2) (Fig. 4).

5.- Ubique y coloque las placas de plástico B a un costado de los motores, utilice cuatro tornillos (P5) para asegurar las placas. 6.- Coloque dos protectores metal (P6) en los orificios que muestra la figura (Fig. 5). 7.- Instale el engrane blanco (P10), el engrane azul (P11), el eje con engrane verde (P7) y finalmente coloque otro engrane azul (P11) en una de las placas de plástico B (Fig. 6). Colóquelos en ese orden a fin de asegurar su correcto funcionamiento. Repita la operación para colocar los engranes restantes en la segunda placa B.

5.- Locates and place the B plaque aside of the engines, use four screws (P5) to fasten the plaques. 6.- Put two eyelets (P6) on the corresponding holes (Fig. 5). 7.- Install the white gear (P10), the blue gear (P11), the green gear with shaft (P7) and the other blue gear (P11) in one of the B plaques. Put them in that order in order to achieve the correct operating. Repeat the operation to place the rest of the gear on the second B plaque.

8.- Para cubrir los engranes y el motor, instale dos placas de plástico A a los costados de los engranes (Fig. 7). Para asegurarlas, utilice 4 tornillos (P5). 9.- Coloque los soportes de pies E y D, junto a las placas de plástico B. Utilice cuatro tornillos (P5) para asegurarlas. 10.- Inserte un protector de metal (P6) por cada soporte de pie (Fig. 8).

11.- En los soportes de pies, coloque los ejes con engranes naranja (P8). Asegúrese de que las pestañas de los ejes queden horizontales de acuerdo a la base (Fig. 9). 12.- Para sujetar los ejes, coloque cuatro placas de plástico C, una en cada uno de los ejes. Utilice cuatro tornillos (P5) para sujetarlas (Fig. 10).

8.- To cover the gears and the motor, put two plastic plaques (A) aside of the gears (Fig. 7). To fasten them, use four screws (P5). 9.- Place the feet support (E and D), with the B plaque. Use four screws (P5) to fasten them. 10.- Insert an eyelet (P6) in each feet support (Fig. 8).

11.- On the feet support, place the orange gear with shaft (P8). Make sure that the eyelash point in a vertical way in accord to the base (Fig. 9). 12.- To hold the shafts, place four plastic plaques (C), one by each shaft. Use four screws (P5) to fasten them (Fig. 10).

13.- Cuenta con dos tipos de patas para colocar en el escarabajo. Seleccione una de ellas. Las patas cuentan con una forma especial que encajan en los ejes con engranes naranja (P8), sólo presione y listo (Fig. 11). Para sujetarlas utilice tornillos (P5) (Fig. 12).

13.- You counts with two kinds of feet for the beetle. Choose one of them. The feet has an special form which fit with the orange gear (P8), just press and is ready (Fig. 11). To fasten them, use screws (P5) (Fig. 12).

Nota: Si utiliza las patas I, coloque las gomas de los pies autoadheribles en la punta de las patas.

Note: If you use the I feet, place the sticky rubber feet at the end of the feet.

INSTRUCCIONES DE ARMADO DE LA PARTE ELECTRÓNICA

HOW TO ASSEMBLE THE ELECTRONIC SECTION

El armado de este circuito requiere de conocimientos de electrónica mínimos. Tenga a la mano un cautin y soldadura.

Some previous knowledge of electronics are required. You must to have a sodlering station.

1.- Coloque primeramente los componentes pequeños como los resistores y el alambre para jumper. 2.- Monte y suelde los componentes como los capacitores de cerámica, y electrolíticos, los transistores y los diodos. 3.- Coloque y suelde los componentes como los sockets para circuitos integrados, los interruptores y los pines. 4.- Instale los focos LED.

1.- First, put the small components, like resistor and the jumper wire. 2.- Mount and solder the components like ceramic and electrolytic capacitors, transistors and diodes . 3.- Place and solder the components like IC sockets, switches and headers. 4.- Install the LED bulbs.

5.- Coloque el jumper y los interruptores de contacto.

5.- Place the header and the contact switches.

6.- Ubique los motores y coloque el cable verde y amarillo en uno de ellos junto con un capacitor de cerámica 104. En el otro motor, coloque los cables naranja y azul y un capacitor de cerámica. Suelde los componentes para lograr un buen contacto.

6.- Locates the engines and plug the green and yellow wires in one of the engines. Solder with a 104 ceramic capacitor . On the other engine, plug the orange and blue wires and a 104 ceramic capacitor. Solder the components to make a good contact.

7.- Coloque el compartimiento de baterías en la parte superior de la placa impresa de circuitos.

7.- Put the batteries compartment on the top of the PCB.

8.- Instale la placa de circuitos y la parte mecánica previamente armada. Asegúrese de que los cables verde y amarillo esté colocados en dirección a las antenas, como indica la figura.

8.- Install the PCB and the previously assembled mechanical part. Make sure that the green and yellow wires aim to the antennas, see the figure.

9.- Coloque las antenas, cuenta con dos opciones de instalación.

10.- Cubra la placa de circuitos impresa con la cubierta plástica.

10.- Protect the PCB with the plastic cover.

11.- Instale los ejes y conecte en ellos los cables naranja, azul, amarillo y verde, como indica la figura.

11.- Install the shafts and put the orange, blue, yellow and green wires. See the figure.

COMO UTILIZAR POR PRIMERA VEZ EL ESCARABAJO

HOW TO USE THE BEETLE BY FIRST TIME

1.- Mueva el interruptor de encendido a ON y el escarabajo comenzará a moverse hacia delante. Cuando detecta un obstáculo en el camino, regresa y realiza dos maniobras de movimientos de acuerdo a la programación hecha por el usuario. Después de eso, continuará el movimiento hacia delante.

1.- Slide the switch to ON, the beetle starts to move forward. When its antenna (touch sensor) detect an object in its path, the robot will go backward first and automatically follow a two-step maneuver to help it overcome the obstacle, in accord to the user's commands. After that, the robot continues the forward movement.

2.- Para configurar los movimientos, utilice los jumpers A, B, C y D. De esta forma, podrá programar: vuelta a la izquierda, vuelta a la derecha, hacia atrás, hacia delante, regresa y da vuelta a la izquierda, regresa y da vuelta a la derecha, para por completo o da una vuelta de 360°. Para configurar el movimiento de las piernas izquierdas, coloque los jumpers en las letras A y B. Para controlar el movimiento de las piernas derechas, coloque los jumpers en las letras C y D. Puede colocar jumpers en las letras A o B o en ambas A y B, pero nunca deje vacíos los espacios, ya que consumirá energía en exceso.

2.- To configure the movements, use the jumpers A, B, C, & D. In this way, you can program: Turn left, turn right, backward, forward, back right turn, back left turn, stop or 360° turn around. To configure the movement on the left feet, place the jumpers on letters A & B. To control the movement on the right feet, put the jumper on letters C & D. You can put jumper on letter A or B or both, but never leave blank spaces, may cause an extra energy consumption.

3.- También puede ajustar el tiempo de los movimientos. Utilice los jumpers TJ1, TJ2 o TJ3. Cada uno de los jumpers equivale a un segundo de duración del movimiento.

3.- You can set the time of the movements. Use jumpers TJ1, TJ2 or TJ3. Each one of the jumpers means one second of movement time.
