TODAY’S TEAMS BURTON 1st XV v BRIDGNORTH 1st XV Saturday 24th September 2022, kick off 3pm Regional 1 Midlands

Players in our sport greatly value support. However, there is one person without whom the game could not go on, namely the referee, and while some may not agree with his decisions it is very important that everyone respects these as his decision is final. So please respect the referee, his job of preventing thirty players from breaking the laws of the game is already difficult, without vocal criticism from the crowd. Burton prides itself on being a predominantly home grown club, where future players grow up watching Saturday’s games. So with this in mind please ensure that these games can be viewed in the best possible light by maintaining a high standard of discipline from the touchline.

TODAY’S TEAMS BURTON BXV v ATHERSTONE Saturday 24th September 2022, kick off 3pm Counties 4 Midlands West (North)

CLUB NOTES There will be a minute of silence before the game on the main pitch in memory of Matthew ‘Dibby’ Hill. Dibby played for the club as an under 16 in 1988 and for approximately 10 years in total. He was a big character and a natural comic who you never saw without breaking into a big smile. Our thoughts are with Dibby’s family and close friends at this sad time. A warm welcome to the players, officials, and supporters from Bridgnorth RFC. Last September at Bridgnorth Burton snook a Try Bonus Point very late on, but the 54-26 score line reflected how sting a performance Bridgnorth put. In January Burton took a 26-22 lead 10 minutes out but a late penalty secured the win for Bridgnorth. All of this bodes well for competitive and entertaining game today. Last week saw Burton win at Stoke. There were reports of injuries, so hopefully these haven’t turned out to be too serious. The results in the league last week and standings afterwards appear below:

Counties Four Midlands West (North) A warm welcome to the players, officials, and supporters from Atherstone RFC. The two clubs are relatively close to each other but I’m not sure that there have been that many fixtures in the past so it is nice to see this one on the card for today. The Bees suffered quite heavily at the hands of Newcastle Seconds last week, so hopefully the boys can produce a reaction today. The results in the league last week and standings afterwards appear below:

The Colts host Ashfield in an NLD league game today. This follows a trip to Matlock last week, where the home side won 24-10. Saturday Rugby - Away Counties One Midlands East (North) The A XV travel to play Ilkeston 1st XV.

Last week the A XV entertained Hinckley Seconds which we always know will be a tough test.

The final score of 14-34 should give the A XV plenty of encouragement for their game today The results in the league last week and standings afterwards appear below:

Sunday Rugby Women’s NC Midlands (North East) A great result for Burton Women aka the Badgers last weekend as they won a Cup Tie at home to Lichfield Women Seconds. The final score was 38-36, so clearly a well contested game. This week there is a Women’s NC Midlands (North East) fixture away to Mellish which opens the league campaign. In this league are Ashfield, Boston, Burton, Kesteven, Mansfield, Mellish, Sileby Town, Sleaford and Sutton Bonnington Students Ladies.

Last weekend: •

the U16 Boys visited Newcastle. The home side won 24-14

The U15 Boys visited Walsall. The home side won 60-10

The U14 Boys hosted Matlock and won 50-0.
