The "Cotutelle" framework

• A joint research project between a french team (University) and a catalan team (University) • A PhD student involved in this collaboration and a joint supervision • The PhD student spends time in both countries (at least one year each)

• Boost the international dimension of doctoral studies in both universities • Promote doctoral students mobility • Develop scientific cooperation between french and foreign research laboratories

Cotutelle Convention In practice, a Convention for the joint supervision of thesis is established. MAIN POINTS

:

• The thesis will terminate with a single oral examination, the result of which is recognized by the two institutions. • The two universities award separately the diploma of Doctor (Double Degree)

Practical details I • The PhD candidate must meet the conditions of admission in thesis in both universities. • Registration fees are charged in one university only. • Doctoral students do their research under the control of responsability of a thesis supervisor in each of the two institutions. • The time for preparation of the thesis will be shared alternately and in balenced periods between the two institutions

Practical details II • The examining board which is jointly designated by the two universities will be equally composed of members of each institution. • The permission of defence of thesis has to be asked for in each university • The language in which the thesis is written is defined in the special clauses of the convention. If the language is not french, the thesis will be completed by a substantial summary in french. • Some specific financial support from the University of Toulouse is possible.
