It’s a great time to explore all of our programs, tour the building, and talk to our instructors. After your visit, we will start accepting applications. You will receive application information on the day of your visit. Applications will be reviewed at the end of December and you will be notified of your acceptance in January. Applications will continue to be accepted until the start of the next school year on a space-available basis.

Being a part of a student organization is an important part of your experience at RG Drage. These organizations provide opportunities to gain the skills and abilities needed to be successful in your career path. You also have many opportunities to practice leadership skills, network with other students and business partners, and hold leadership positions at the local, state and national level. Besides that, it’s FUN!
Articulation Agreements & CTAGS (Career Technical Assurance Guides): College credit is awarded when you successfully complete a career technical program and meet the requirements of the agreement between RG Drage and the college partner. ZIP to Degree: A selective program which provides you the opportunity to earn an associate’s degree during your junior and senior year at RG Drage. This opportunity not only jumpstarts your career, but also provides a seamless transition to a bachelor’s degree! (That means a 4-year degree in half the time!)

CODING U
Coding U at RG Drage is a senior only program that covers the fundamentals of information technology. In this course, students will learn the basics of computer hardware, software, networking, security and maintenance. This will help students earn the CompTIA ITF+(Information Technology Fundamental) certification. In addition, students will have the opportunity to earn certifications in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint, and Access. Students will also learn programming skills including troubleshooting, variables, data types, classes, and objects using various programming languages.

In addition to our programs at the RG Drage campus, we have an Agribusiness program housed at Minerva High School and a CBI (Career-Based Intervention) program housed at Louisville High School.

This program, housed at Minerva High School, is designed to provide students the ability to explore various aspects of the agriculture field. Through the focused learning of agribusiness concepts, students engage in innovative thinking and develop problem-solving strategies to help them become life-long learners. A key component for many students in the program is participation in FFA (Future Farmers of America).
PRO GRA M HIG HL IGHTS Students earn technical credits through their Career Technical program and complete their high school graduation requirements at RG Drage through the University of Akron. College Expenses, including textbooks are covered by the partnering school district. Each student has the opportunity to earn an associate degree. Each associate degree pathway has a path to a bachelor degree and additional graduate education opportunities at The University of Akron and other public institutions across Ohio. Student expectations include: •

The C.B.I. program is a Career Technical Education program designed for freshmen and sophomore students. The student will have an opportunity to receive three (3) credits each year: Core Academic, CBI Related (employability skills), and CBI Lab (work experience). The student receives: core academic instruction in the academic course aligned to the student’s grade level; work experience in an employing establishment; and occupational job-related instruction in the school. Through work experiences, students develop the necessary attitudes, skills and abilities which will enable them to become gainfully employed in skilled occupations. The primary goal of CBI is to explore and select a Career Technical program to be taken during their 11th and 12th grade year.

This program is designed to give students a working knowledge of animal management and veterinary science through the study of many animals, including cattle, sheep, swine, horses, poultry, and goats. Animal handling, management and care are practiced with a variety of species. Coursework is geared to the interests and career direction of the individual student.

In The Body Shoppe at RG Drage, students are provided hands-on instruction which includes lab and related technology in auto body repair and restoration of vehicles. This program is designed to equip students with entry-level skills and familiarize them with advanced repair procedures and equipment. This program emphasizes all phases of auto body repair: painting, body and panel alignment, fiber glass and plastic repair, welding, auto refinishing, shop safety and management.

In this ASE certified program, students learn to maintain, diagnose, and service automobiles. In Auto Services, students become familiar with brake and electrical systems, suspensions, and alignments. In addition, students use the latest test equipment, including a computerized engine analyzer. Shop management and safety topics are also included in the curriculum. Students who complete the program are eligible to take the Student ASE exam in May of their senior year to qualify for student certifications. Following the successful completion of the exams, students must work one year in the industry to receive their full ASE credentials.

This program uses the baking industry to teach students about the highly diverse food manufacturing and marketing industry. Students make a wide variety of sweet and savory baked goods that include pizza, yeast bread products, cakes, donuts, cookies, pies and other specialty food items. The bakery lab provides students with hands-on skills that are transferable to every aspect of the food industry. Upon completion of this program, students may enter the work place or take advantage of post-secondary education and scholarship opportunities available at technical, two-year, or four-year colleges and universities.

The Building Construction program teaches students a broad range of entry-level skills. The program includes the fundamentals of carpentry, finish carpentry, roofing, dry-wall, flooring, painting, siding, electrical, plumbing, cement, masonry, and blueprint reading. Students are trained to maintain, repair, construct, and remodel buildings and homes. During the course of the program, students will participate in on-site and off-site experiences. In addition, students may receive up to six industry-related certifications.

There are exciting new career opportunities for cosmetologists, and the outlook for a career in hair design and cosmetology remains fantastic! Skincare, spa treatments, and nail care are some of the hottest specialty growth areas, today. Students in the Cosmetology program gain skills in complete hair care, including styles, cuts, color, and chemical texture services; facial/skin care; and nail care. Cosmetology students are provided hands-on experiences and, upon completion of requirements, are qualified to take the Ohio State Board of Cosmetology Exam at the end of their senior year. Once licensed, students may participate in early placement.

In the Dental Assisting program, students learn to work in cooperation with a dentist in the care and treatment of patients. Along with basic dental laboratory procedures, students learn dental terminology, use of instruments and equipment, x-ray procedures, preparation of dental materials, as well as dental office management skills. Students in Early Childhood Education explore the growth and development of children from birth to third grade and the importance of early intervention for school readiness. Students work in our state licensed preschool for children ages 3, 4 and 5 years. They plan and present all of the developmentally appropriate lessons to the children. Required trainings include Communicable Disease, Child Abuse, Pediatric First Aid and CPR for infant/children/adults. Students also research disabilities and explore various ways to make accommodations in the classroom.

Additionally, students gain proficiency in printing and use of printing equipment. Students also gain experience working with customer service during the course of their two-year program. Graduates of the program are encouraged to further their education by earning a two or four-year degree in several areas of graphic communications.

Our Heavy Truck/Diesel lab is one of the highest level technology labs in the state of Ohio! This program is designed to provide students with practical instruction in the diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of trucks, buses, and other diesel-powered equipment. Heavy Truck/Diesel students work with a variety of equipment from small trucks to tractortrailers. Students are trained in the following certificated curriculum areas: diesel and gasoline engines, air/hydraulic brake systems, steering/suspension systems, electrical systems, drive train, and heating/air-conditioning systems (including transport refrigeration and mechanical and electronic fuel injection).

Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning technicians design, install, maintain, and repair the equipment used to provide environmental indoor air quality in homes and buildings. Residential and light commercial heating, ventilating, and air conditioning, along with refrigeration, are the main focuses of the program. During the course of the program, students will participate in onsite and off-site experiences. In addition, the growing emphasis on energy cost and utilization is creating a need for technicians to renovate, convert, and service existing heating and air conditioning systems. Students learn to utilize blueprints and drawings; install refrigeration lines and pipes; install furnaces and air-conditioners; test electronic control systems; design, install, and troubleshoot electrical systems; and repair heating and air-conditioning systems.
