Por lo pronto se van a importar 650 mil toneladas de maíz. Se dijo para terminar con la especulación que para el gobierno es lo que ha disparado el precio de las tortillas. Eduardo Sojos, Secretario de Economía, anuncio que 450 mil toneladas de maíz blanco se compraran a los Estados Unidos y se distribuirán en los estados del golfo, Península de Yucatán y frontera norte. Otras 200 mil toneladas de maíz se importaran de diversas partes del mundo, libres de arancel. Las cuales podrán destinarse a cualquier parte de la republica. Su distribución se realizara de la siguiente manera. 50 mil toneladas a DICONSA y el resto a la industria harinera o nixtamalera. Señalo que la especulación en los precios de la tortilla se terminara con el abasto de maíz en el mercado nacional. Beatriz Zavala, Secretaria de Desarrollo Social, aseguro que las distribuidoras DICONSA garantizan el abasto oportuno y la calidad de maíz para las comunidades mas pobres del país durante el primer semestre del año. DICONSA lo adquirirá para abastecer a la población que lo consume al mejor precio nacional o de importación. La principal acción que se esta llevando acabo es la adquisición en los meses de Enero y Febrero del maíz nacional y de importación. Alberto Cárdenas, Secretario de Agricultura, señalo que el propósito del gobierno federal es incrementar la productividad del campo mexicano para que los productores de maíz puedan alcanzar el millón de hectáreas cultivadas en todo el territorio nacional. Da servidumbre a las actividades de los productores, aumentar el desarrollo tecnológico, facilitar el acceso al financiamiento, promover el ordenamiento de los mercados.
