INTRODUCTION ICT tools stand for Information Communication Technology tools. The ICT tools means to digital infrastructures like computers, laptops, printers, scanners, software programs, data projectors, and interactive teaching box

.

4

What is ICT Tools 1.Term is referring to various digital tools, e.g. software, applications that can be used for different purpose. Each ICT tool has it own purpose, e.g. tools for editing images, digital drawing and creating illustration, developing mind maps, etc. They are used in education process as assets for enrichment of the teaching process. Using ICT tools in class ICT tools are the set of currently developed technologies that allow more efficient communication of information, which have modified the way of accessing knowledge and, in turn, human relations.

5

Its acronym stands for Information and Communication Technologies and today it is playing a key role in the development of new educational policies and projects. The use of ICTs with the pandemic ICT has become an essential tool in offering students a comprehensive education at all times, enabling them to develop all their digital skills and abilities, thus enriching the teaching-learning process with dynamic and innovative methodologies. During the pandemic, there were times when it was impossible for us to go to class to work normally, so teleworking and online classes were promoted. It was at that time that ICT tools took on a much more important role in education. Being able to continue working remotely has been essential to maintain the academic level of the students and, within all this chaos, to maintain a bit of normality. The instantaneousness of these tools has made it possible to continue working at the same pace, carrying out virtual classes, uploading deliveries to different educational platforms, and even taking exams from home with quizzes.

Key tips for the correct use of ICTs in class ❖ In order for ICTs to be of real educational use, they must be used properly and they must get the most out of them. To this end, it is essential that they are used as a means and not as an end ❖ . “First you have to think about ‘what’ you want to teach and ‘how’ you want to teach it, and then ‘with which’ medium: the digital whiteboard, the tablet or any other technological medium you consider appropriate,” ❖ explains Javier Arróspide, Technology teacher at SEK El Castillo International School.Likewise, students must understand that it is a learning tool, not a game, so we also work on responsibility and time management. Students must control the time they spend online, whether on the computer,

6

tablet, mobile phone or any other similar device. mobile or any other similar device.

ICT resources that can be used in class ❖ In order to be able to implement ICT in the classroom, it is necessary to be trained and to know the tools that new technologies provide us with, as well as to define the needs of the students and the curricular objectives. Only in this way will it be possible to create a flexible learning environment and implement the strategies and tools necessary for them to develop all their capabilities. Some examples of ICT resources are the following: Visual resources such as videos, images or PDF documents that can be used as a further aid for students to understand the syllabus even better. ❖ LMS: these are educational tools designed to facilitate the interaction and organisation of the class group. Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams or Moodle are some of the most important LMS in the education sector. They allow for distance work, homework, assignments, deliveries, etc.

7

❖ Platforms for making video calls and maintaining “presence” in class. In this way we can keep in touch with the students, maintain closer contact, etc. ❖ Educational platforms such as Additio allow the management of class work, the creation of different evaluation methods, as well as the evaluation of these and their subsequent sending to the students. In this way we keep in touch with our students and they continue to enjoy the constant monitoring they can have in class, also at home.

What are the advantages of ICT tools? 1. ICT helps pupils to develop new skills and become more creative. ICT stimulates the development of imagination as well as initiative. It is a valuable tool for producing work, both in terms of content and form. 2. It improves pupils’ academic performance as their classroom experience also improves substantially. 3. Motivation and attention levels are increased, contributing to greater effectiveness in the learning process. 4. Increases students’ responsibility and sense of autonomy. 5. Students use the Tablet as a work tool at home, which gives rise to the incorporation of new learning methodologies, online education, inverted classroom, etc… 6. It increases interest. With resources as rich and different as videos, websites, graphics and games, traditional subjects become more interesting. Multimedia contents are a very useful tool to bring the different subjects closer to the students in a complete and entertaining way. 7. Collaborative work is clearly enhanced with the different digital tools. It is easier than ever to create team projects, cooperate and learn from each other.

8

8. Close dialogue between students and teachers is encouraged through different channels, in a more spontaneous and less formal way.

Disadvantages of ICT : Destructive and immoral content: I.C.T technology has provided access to damaging information through various websites that host destructive and immoral content. Unemployment: While information technology may have streamlined the business process it has also created job redundancies, downsizing and outsourcing. This means that a lot of lower and middle level jobs have been done away with causing more people to become unemployed. Privacy: though information technology may have made communication quicker, easier and more convenient, it has also bought along privacy issues. From cell phone signal interceptions to email hacking, people are now worried about their once private information becoming public knowledge.

9

Lack of job security: Industry experts believe that the internet has made job security a big issue as since technology keeps on changing with each day. This means that one has to be in a constant learning mode, if he or she wishes for their job to be secure. Dominant culture: While information technology may have made the world a global village, it has also contributed to one culture dominating another weaker one. For example it is now argued that US influences how most young teenagers all over the world now act, dress and behave. Languages too have become overshadowed, with English becoming the primary mode of communication for business and everything else.

UNLEASH MORE CREATIVE POWER Enjoy an online image editor, photo editor, audio editor, video editor, music studio, code studio, pixel editor and 3D studio for only $9 / month Flux time studio, A new animation toy/tool has arrived on the internet waves

FLUX STUDIO TOOL

A new animation toy/tool has arrived on the internet waves from London-based, FluxTime Inc. One can now log on to www.fluxtime.com, and create personalized animation clips, which can be sent from within the site’s internal mailing system to

17

friends and family, posted in the FluxTime gallery, or entered in one of many of FluxTime’s many contests. London-based.

Using Java technology ❖ This tool can be used by anyone with internet access and a web browser that supports Java 1.3.1 or later. The interface is extremely easy to navigate, so as to make the program easier to use for younger users. This is by no means a powerful animation tool in which you can expect to make broadcast quality animation, as it is geared more towards younger users to the site, giving them an opportunity to experiment with making objects move. ❖ To get started, a user would want to come up with an idea as to what he/she would like to animate. FluxTime offers within one of its menus, different “themes” or backgrounds which you can select from. Then the user can then choose objects or characters from another menu and place it in the background in the position and at the size needed. Objects can be used alone, or combined with others to give the character or object an original look and they can also be modified by selecting points within them, and dragging them to where you would like them to be, thus changing the its shape. ❖ Once the object is finished and the action is planned, the user simply clicks the “record” button, grabs the object with the cursor, and moves it as necessary while the program records every move made automatically. Once the action is finished, the work can be seen instantaneously with the click of the play button. If any adjustments are necessary, it is possible to do so by moving the time slider at the top of the screen to the part of the animation in which the position needs to be adjusted, and dragging the object to its new position. 18

Unfortunately, it appears that it is not possible to adjust the timing, but then, how many children are concerned about the timing of their work, as long as it moves the general direction that they want it to? ❖ If you are a student who might be interested in experimenting in 2D animation, or a teacher who might like to teach your young ones how to animate basic pieces, FluxTime is a great tool for the kiddies to play with and let their creative instincts run free. Pricing of full memberships for individuals or educators can be found on their web site, as well as past pieces animated by other members, which you can view.

VOXOPOP

Voxopop is an online message board system that uses voice instead of text. Its forums are called Talkgroups and can be created by anyone, including teachers, to talk about any subject. Talkgroups can be public, private, or invite-only. The site's design is a bit cluttered and contains some advertising; finding the recording tool might take a few tries, but once you've found it, you'll know wheretogo.Anyone can explore and listen to public discussions, but only users who have created an account can contribute. Teachers can choose to make discussions private. When you create an account, you'll also be able to set up email notifications so you'll know when others contribute.

How can l teach with this tool This type of voice-based message board could be a good way to get kids with writing challenges, literacy issues, or learning difficulties to communicate in a different way. Conversations are created verbally, and kids can share feelings, opinions, and ideas without being under pressure to write them all down. Also, Voxopop is an excellent tool for language-learning teachers, both world language and ELL. You could assign students a series of practice conversations within the site, ask them to dictate a text

23

for reading-fluency practice, or have them ask and answer each others’ questions in another tongue.

Its good for learning Since

the

advent

of real-time,

video-chat forums

like Google

Hangouts

and Skype, tools like Voxopop don't fill the same void that they used to. You have to record your message, then wait for others to respond. This may not fit for a heated political discussion, but could be just fine for a slow-paced chat or in-depth literary analysis. Plus, the ability to record and play back could also work well for language learners, a speech or class, or any other time a student needs to prepare and perfect a verbal presentation. Most members use Voxopop for language practice and learning, and it seems to work well for this.

Many are appropriate for use in a group or for one-onone tuition sessions. Once you have located an appropriate resource, there is no need for further planning. Resources are Easy to Find 30

There is a wealth of material, which is clearly marked and divided. whatever situation you are facing, or challenges you are trying to overcome, you are not alone, and that there are ways to resolve problems. It is also useful and interesting for more experienced teachers also. Anecdotes are amusing as well as useful. Chances to be Published On the site there are sections for people wanting to share lesson ideas and also submit proposals to recognised publishers. Social Applications A well used forum allows you to talk with other teachers, gain different perspectives and ideas and generally just bounce ideas around and share funny tales. Although you have to register to use the forum, registration is free. There are thousands of registered users, making a really big community of teachers. There are blogs you can read and competitions you can enter. Cons No Links to Other ESL Sites I could not find links to other ESL websites. Whilst alone this is a great site for teachers, I think it would be useful to share links to other pages to enable teachers to access even more resources and have a wider range of options to choose from. You Must Pay for Many of the Resources Understandably for a site of such calibre, many resources and materials are only available for paying subscribed members. Each section does contain samples, however, which not only provide a taster for what you will get if you subscribe but are also very useful on their own. There are great resources available for free users, it is just a shame that there are so many that you must pay for.

31

Registration is Needed to Comment and Access Some Areas Perhaps a minor inconvenience rather than a negative, if you want to use some site features you will need to register first. Registration is free though, and after registering once you will be able to login whenever you want. Not The job search facility does not yield many results. I searched for Thailand, where I currently live, and there was not a single job listed. When I look at other job search sites though, there are plenty. I also performed some arbitrary searches; a simple country search for Saudi Arabia returned only three results, the country Japan returned no results, searching for jobs in Russia produced no results, an open country search under the category of Business English / ESP returned no results and the category Summer School Teacher returned two results. I then tried an open search with no filtering, to find all jobs in any category in any location; there were ten jobs available to view.

MIND 42 TOOL

32

How is Mind42 Useful in the Classroom? Classroom integration from Integrated Content Literacy fifth edition Recall Diagramming or Thought Mapping. “A recall diagram is a schematic method for relating associated remembrances. The objective is to encourage students to remember information in the order that works best for each of them. Therefore, there should be no restrictions on form or order of recall. The following example is but one model of a recall diagram. Encourage each student to use it as a blueprint to develop the method that works best for them. One way to construct a diagram or thought map is to turn a piece of paper lengthwise. Draw a slanted line from a point near the bottom left corner diagonally across the page. On this line write any idea or point that comes to mind. This idea will work like a magnet for other ideas.

OTHER SCHOOL APPLICATIONS Two-Color Diagram: Organizational Essay Test: Pre/Post Individual Student Evaluation: Note Taking for Report Writing: Participation in Video Viewing: Small-Group Discussion Facilitator: ELL/Foreign Language Practice: (Wolpow, R., Tonjes, M.,2005, pp.

Art Applications In art there is considerable amount of time that goes into planning for an art project. A digital mind map is a great tool for building ideas. 1.Students could first take an assignment parameters then create their digital mind map. These mind maps would be created as a group where a teacher can access them. 2. This would be a perfect opportunity for formative assessment in the planning stage that can reach a student outside the confines of the classroom. 3.This may also remove the tension that is sometimes created from direct personal constructive criticism. 4.Additionally,

33

students could work in small groups where they could effectively provide electronic peer group feedback. BACK Learning Curve It took me about an hour to learn to use the basics of the program. Had a little bit of a hang up on linking images; it is the direct link, not the image url. There are group and collaboration options that should provide the enough control to make this a great tool for an art class. I will have to play around a little bit more to fully understand how these work. The export option was simple and worked great, for printing or attaching.

Learning Goals

1. Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity.

➢ Promote, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness. This program will allow me to provide formative assessment to students away from the classroom. -This use of the program will give students a visual mind map to follow their own innovative thinking and inventiveness while creating their artwork.

➢ Promote student reflection using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify students’ conceptual understanding and thinking, planning, and creative processes. -This use of the program is a 100% dead fit for this standard. Students can independently, or in groups reflect upon their conceptual understanding and thinking, planning, and creative processes. The program provides the opportunity to provide direct feedback as notes that can be object coded to help provide visual reference. 34

➢ Model collaborative knowledge construction by engaging in learning with students, colleagues, and others in face-to-face and virtual environments. -The export function can provided a printed map of the planning as well as the virtual map that works great for collaboration the can exceed the limitation of simply teacher to student. ➢ Model Digital Age Work and Learning Teachers exhibit knowledge, skills, and work processes representative of an innovative professional in a global and digital society. ➢ Collaborate with students, peers, parents, and community members using digital tools and resources to support student success and innovation -As above this is great for collaboration, and this could simply be a way to publish student work visually to support students in their achievement. ➢ Communicate relevant information and ideas effectively to students, parents, and peers using a variety of digital age media and formats ➢ Model and facilitate effective use of current and emerging digital tools to locate, analyze, evaluate, and use information resources to support research and learning BACK TO MENU

Diigo PDF Annotator has received a major update!

We have made big adjustments to our PDF annotation toolbar. The bar has been simplified and given a more modern, simple look to allow you to focus on the content. Features on the toolbar have also been streamlined to provide just the right amount of functionality for PDF review and sharing. The issue with PDF annotations not showing spaces between words in the annotation menu on certain PDF files has been fixed. Annotations will now show in their intended format. This improvement has been long due, however the complexity and amount of development to resolve this issue was substantial. We think you will be quite pleased with the result of our work.

PICLITS TOOL

43

MISSION OF PICLITS Every person should have the opportunity to learn to write & read, because every person matters. Literacy empowers people to believe in themselves and be better able to engage productively in their community and life choices. The process of WRITING requires individuals to form thoughts and to think things through, hence it improves learning. Literacy strengthens confidence, resolve, resilience, and thus can elevate ones selfesteem and future. It can easily bring hope and opportunity. “Students who write in class every day become more skillful at expressing what they feel and what they are learning. Students should be writing frequently in all content, primarily so they can write their way to understanding of curricula. Writing is a way of knowing. It is how you discover what you know and is an important tool for reflecting on and then owning learning.” Featured PIC-LITS

Storybird is a unique language arts tool. We use illustrations to inspire students to write stories , and our standards-based writing curriculum engages students with age-appropriate video tutorials, writing challenges, quizzes, and more. In a learning scenario, “starting with pictures” is powerful: it stirs the emotions while it engages the brain and jumpstarts students into their text, avoiding the blank-page syndrome. And it's effective. Schools have seen as much as 3-grade level jumps in literacy when using Storybird throughout the year.

ARTISTS LOVE STORYBIRD

“The thing I love the most about Storybird is being a part of something that, in a very simple and effective way, encourages people to be creative. And it works. I’m constantly amazed by their ability to take my fairly simple and fairly silly illustrations and build complex worlds around them - worlds that I could never have dreamed up. Each writer adds their own brand of drama, mystery, beauty, quirkiness, or hilarity (or sometimes all of the above). I never get bored of reading them. I love it.”

52

“Storybird is a very different experience than I’ve had working in a traditional publishing format. Creating the illustrations is more of a collaborative effort between the writer and I. I’ve loved reading a writer’s serialized longform book in its rough, unfinished stage and am excited that my artwork has helped to inspire that writing. I’m excited to see where the story goes over the coming months!”

“I absolutely love Storybird! I feel connected with the creative minds of authors and storytellers - kids and adults. We can influence each other, engage heartto heart, laugh, and inspire each other. As an artist I see that my visual language is understood and transformed into new ideas and stories. Storybird is awesome! An innovative publishing experience for professional writers.
