The Imation USB Floppy Drive is designed for use with an Apple® iMac™, iBook™, or a Power Macintosh™ G3™ or G4™ computer or PC systems running Windows® 98, 2000, Millennium Edition or Windows XP featuring a Universal Serial Bus (USB) port.

Macintosh Installation 1. Insert the CD-ROM that contains the USB Floppy Drive Drivers into the CD-ROM drive of your Macintosh computer. If you have Mac OS 9.x or Mac OS 8.6 or higher with Apple MassStorageSupport driver version 1.3.5, complete steps 5 and 6 for installation. If you wish to have the copy protected software (PACE) the Imation driver provides, complete all six ▲

installation steps. For Mac OS X 10.2 or higher, complete steps 5 and 6.

2. Double-click the CD-ROM icon on the computer’s desktop. The system displays the contents of the CD-ROM in a new window. 3. Double-click the USB FD driver icon in the window, and follow the instructions that appear on screen. 4. When the installation is complete, restart your Macintosh. 5. Connect the USB interface cable from the back of the drive into the USB port on your Macintosh. To USB port on computer

Windows 98 Installation 1. Insert the CD-ROM containing the USB Floppy Drive Drivers into the CD-ROM drive on your PC. 2. Connect the USB interface cable from the back of the drive into the USB port on your PC. To USB port on computer

For PCs running Windows 98, the system automatically senses new hardware and launches a Wizard to look for the driver. When the system prompts for software driver location, make sure the CD-ROM box is checked. Continue to follow the system prompts until the driver is loaded. 3. Windows 2000, Millennium Edition or Windows XP Installation 1. Connect the USB interface cable from the back of the drive into the USB port on your PC. To USB port on computer

Ejecting Floppy Disks on a Macintosh 1. Click the floppy disk icon once to highlight the icon. 2. Select “Eject” from the “Special” menu, or “Put Away” from the “File” menu. Connecting and Disconnecting the USB Cable You can plug the USB cable into a USB port while the power to the computer is turned on. This is called a “Hot Plug.” Before you disconnect the cable from the USB port, remove the floppy disk from the drive.

Drive Head Cleaning To ensure optimum drive performance, clean the read/write head after every 40 to 80 hours of operation. No other maintenance is required. Follow these guidelines: • Operate the drive in a clean, dust-free environment • Never apply a lubricant to the drive The drive’s recording heads may be cleaned using a suitable head cleaning diskette. Either wet or dry types are acceptable.

Notes • The Imation USB Floppy Drive does not support 2DD 800K Mac format or ProDOS format floppy disks. • Auto-Eject function. (You must eject floppy disks as described in “Ejecting Floppy Disks.” If you try to install software using a multiple-floppy disk installation process, the drive may not correctly auto-eject disks.) • You cannot start up the computer from a System disk inserted in the Imation USB Floppy Drive. • The driver software is designed for the Imation USB Floppy Drive and will not work with other drives. • Use only those USB hubs that feature an AC power adapter. • Do not connect the Imation USB Floppy Drive to the USB port on the Macintosh keyboard. • Do not strike, drop, or otherwise impact the Imation USB Floppy Drive.
