Kart Research Track/Axle Track In most vehicles (including karts), the axle track is the distance between the hub flanges on an axle. Wheel track, track width or simply track refers to the distance between the centerline of two wheels on the same axle
Wheelbase The wheelbase of any vehicle is the distance between the centres of the front and rear axles of the kart
Overall Length The distance between the front end and the rear end of the vehicle and, in relation to a combination of vehicles, the distance between the front end of the leading vehicle and the rear end of the rearmost vehicle
R.P.M
(Revolution Per Minute)
Used to indicate the speed of something by saying how many times per minute it will go round in a circle.
Toe (In/Out) When the vehicle negotiates a curve, the inner wheel turns more sharply and while the wheels remain in this position, the wheels will toe-out and will return to the correct toe-in when the steering wheel is returned to the straight-ahead position.
Camber (Positive/Negative) The wheel’s angle is relative to vertical, as viewed from the front or the rear of the car. If the wheel leans towards the chassis, it has negative camber; if it leans away from the car, it has positive camber.
Lever Ratio The lever ratio is the stroke ratio between the shock absorber and the tire. Shock absorbers are pump-like devices that your vehicle’s tires in contact with the road surface by controlling the rebound of its suspension springs.
Caster The angle of the stub is one of the key ingredients for lifting the inside rear wheel; the more castor (laying the stub back), the more lift; less castor (laying the stub forward) less lift.
Gear ratio The ratio of angular speed of the engine crankshaft to the angular speed of the axle.
Kingpin Inclination Kingpin Inclination is the same as camber. Swivel pin or kingpin inclination is the lateral inward tilt from the top between the upper
Pitman/Ackermann Angle Ackermann steering geometry is a geometric arrangement of linkages in the steering of a car or other vehicle designed to solve the problem of wheels on the inside and outside of a turn needing to trace out circles of different radii.
Maximum power output An engine configuration's maximum engine power is the maximum brake powerpoint on the nominal power curve for the engine configuration.
Displacement The total volume of all the cylinders in an engine. A cylinder is a vital part of the engine. It's a chamber where fuel is combusted and power is generated
Dimensions The main measurements of the kart; Wheelbase, frame, front track, rear track, the centre of gravity
Maximum Toque Torque provides a simple measurement of the maximum twisting force that the engine can generate when worked hard.
