6' >^ire junior prom is one of the eagerly anticipated events in a student’s life. It is a night when every young man and woman is star. Anticipation builds through the course of the year until - suddenly their night to shine has arrived. On the evening of May 11, 2002, this long awaited dream became a reality for the class of 2003. The cafeteria had been transformed for this special evening, and when students entered the room they found themselves immersed in their very own Black and White Ball. Every inch of the space had been engulfed in black and white; drapes flowed from floor to ceiling creating a sophisticated atmosphere while bright icicle lights illuminated the room and balloons were scattered about. Elegant white pillars and red roses added special touches to the picturesque scene. Even more awe-inspiring than the transformation of the cafeteria was the transformation of the students themselves. Whether in breathtaking dresses or handsome suits, every student looked the part for this special evening. Their formal dresses made every girl feel like the “belle of the ball,” and from their unique and beautiful hair creations to their shoes, corsages and boutonnieres it was clear that not one detail had been overlooked in preparing for this important night. Music provided by the DJ played far into the night, keeping couples on the dance floor. The continuous music kept everyone moving and insured that the excitement of the prom remained at a fever pitch. Countless pictures were snapped, immortalizing the beauty of a junior prom that clearly was an event for all the young couples. The junior prom far surpassed the expectations of everyone who took part, and brought members of the class of 2003 closer together even as they began to write the final pages in this chapter of their lives.

OU could liteially feel the excitement growing as seventh period approached on the afternoon of Friday, September 20,2002. Within moments, members of the class of 2003 would get a chance to “leave our mark” on the school as we took pari in the traditional painting of The Field House. When the moment arrived, every senior rushed across the street onto the football field to claim a spot on the building where their name would reside for the next year. Some staked their claim by using a ladder to find a hard-to-reach space; others stood on the shoulders of friends. No matter how they accomplished their goal, before long every inch of the Field House was adorned with the names and initials of seniors.

—V

Shorts, T-shirts and faces weren’t spared a coat of green as seniors really got into the spirit of things. In addition to green paint, there was an abundance of school pride that day. The entire senior class enjoyed the fun of leaving their mark on the Field House. More important, they got the satisfaction of establishing in print the fact that they were finally seniors. The sight of the senior class adorned with paint would have made any other school green with envy at the kind of school spirit and friendship exhibited that day. And while the names, initials and handprints will be on display for only one year, the memories of this day will stay with us long after our class’s “masterpiece is painted over in anticipation of next year’s event.
