Projects Project 1 - plastic dinosaur Materials and equipment used Omtech Laser cutter 12mm thick white acrylic Plastic glue Various spray paints Sandpaper (Not always needed)

Steps -

The first step is to put the plastic in the laser cutter machine and get it cut out to shape using the dinosaur template. Once it is cut out remove the protective layer on the plastic. Test fit the pieces and make sure they fit properly and are in the correct place in correlation to the model. If needed sand down edges that are too tight and do not fit properly. Once you are sure of the fitting of the pieces glue them down with the plastic glue and let it dry. Once your model is dry you can either paint it or leave it as is.

Problems I ran into -

The first problem occurred when multiple pieces failed to actually fit into their designated spot on the model. I felt my dinosaur was too plain in the original white colour that the plastic was. My dinosaur fell off of the workbench snapping the fragile plastic into multiple little pieces

How I fixed these problems -

-

I fixed the improper fit of a few pieces just by using some sandpaper and lightly sanding the edges that didn’t fit until they did. I fixed the plain, boring look of my white dinosaur by using spray paint. I used a variety of shades of blue and purple to create a galaxy look with some yellow splattered on to look like the stars. After my dinosaur fell on the ground and broke I used the glue which was used in the initial assembly to also reassemble it.
